1. I love Geddys sound, but for me the single song that makes me drool at the bass sound, is "Judith "by A Perfect circle. I get quite moist when I hear it!
2. I own 14 basses and 4 guitars. I like them all, but still feel if I had the finances, I would own more. I get GAS all the time
3.
No coated strings sound good IMO. They all sound sterile/lifeless/muted. Most coated strings also interupt the bridge ground (which is more notable on passive basses) as the coating is non-conductive, increasing or inducing ground hum. The only sets that have a conductive coating are D'Addario EXP and Cleartone. But again, both of these are equally as bad sounding to me.
Couldn't agree more! Coated strings sound poxy. Elixir acoustic guitar strings are amazing, and last for ages but the bass version is rotten!
4.
D'addarios last longer as well. Elixirs much longer, but they start with a little less zing when fresh
In my experience Elites, whilst sounding great at first, don't last. I use Roto's but they don't last either . I've never found a string that lasts more than 3 gigs before going flat. If I'm being totally honest, I find a difference after one gig. To get round this, I stick them in the dishwasher and get a little longer out of them
5. But you are going to ruin all the drummer jokes if you play bass too!
6. Get yourself into a music shop and don't be afraid to just ask someone what you should go for. Obviously people are going to say get what feels right, but if you are a complete beginner, you might not know what feels "right" Expensive doesn't always mean better. To be honest, you'd be hard pressed to get a better bang for your buck than the old Squire Jazz that you have already tried!
7. Guitars are meant to be original. This guy has done that. It's better than some mass produced clone of a clone. I don't think it's terrifically natural looking, but not many relic jobs are. The Rory Gallagher strat, for example is horrible. It has stickers on it to replicate the missing paint from Rory's original! Now THAT looks crap to me!

9. I have a Sandberg California TM4, and its hands down, the best relic job I've ever seen. It's a joy to play and sounds great too. One of my favourite basses!
10.
Yes... ...and you ain't got any! #IMO etc
I'll have you know my good fellow, that I have plenty!!!
11. 2x12 barefaced does me perfect with an Ampeg SVT 2 !
12.
I knew that, as local radio made a big thing of it at the time. Anyway each to their own - Talking Heads leave me cold!
I agree! In fact road to nowhere should be added to the least liked, most hated list. Video jukeboxes from the late 80's have a heck of a lot to answer for!
13. I think it looks ok. It's a copy ffs, good on him for making it unique!
14. I must admit, I fancy trying one out, seeing as I was about 19 when I last had a brief shot of one. I'd like to see what the fuss is about. A trip to guitar guitar is in order!
15. Some great angst being released here. Maybe this could be a therapy session !
16.
I always have mine rolled back a little...maybe using 80% of what's available. Always like to have a litle bit in reserve...the old 'ace up the sleeve' routine. Also it holds back some of those more unwelcome noises such as string whistle etc.... I just prefer a less powerful signal leaving the bass to the amp...
Yip, this is me too.
17. I just used pencil cos that's all I had at the time and it's stayed like that. I suppose I should really make a more preffesional job of it!

B SIdes

Best B side I ever heard was Nico Mc Brains argument, I can't remember the A side. He didn't know he was being recorded http://youtu.be/TDGhAZEQyLw **** was standing be'ind me, sittin Dahn!
19.
I haven't heard any of their stuff. Guess I'm just too old, but Scouting for girls really irritates me. It sounds too jimmy saville/ Rolf Harris . Repulsive .
Trust me, they are as bad as the name suggests!
20.
Boney M? I actively turn the radio UP if they come on! UB40 I absolutely cannot stand. That geezer's whining vocal actually makes me angry.
I agree about Boney M, same as ABBA, used to hate them when they were out, now love them! Agree about UB40 apart from the first two albums which are immense!
