1. Damn! I was wanting to help, but Grangur and Neepheid have beaten me to it and both have explained it far mor eloquently than I could have.
2. I apologise if I've rained on a new bass day. I only wanted to say the West Ham reference ain't up my street. As for the bass, they are great as far as I know and I'm sure the op will really enjoy it
3. You can write in a patronising way by adopting a holier than thou attitude and loosely referring to others as idiots, who have no clue about safety. Clear enough?
4. Did yous hear them on Terry Wogans show? There's a clip online of their performance. They were brilliant. The harmonies amazing. A really good band !
5. You have to visit guitar guitar in Glasgow . It's huge and well worth a gander. If you venture onto Great Western rd., you could pop into CC Music, which has a great bunch of guys working there. As for food, it's like any big city, lots to choose from. If you want music, why not check out the what's on gig guide? If your looking for something smaller and low key, the suggestions above have been really good. All the best mate and I hope you enjoy
6. Thomann are very good to deal with. I've bought loads of gear from them and it usually arrives a day or two later. I couldn't fault them at all. As for West 'Am, I wouldn't give them the steam off my p**s!
7. I've got a Genz Benz 6x10 that weighs 9 stones! Great sound but not very practical. Every time I wheeled it into a pub, you could see people's faces drop!
8. Maybe it's just the standard of the original music that's concerning you. Just because it's original music doesn't mean it's good. I reckon if you were in a band that was writing great songs, you would be loving it. I hope things get better mate
9. Rockus sometimes puts live music on . It's a small place but it's really good for a rock crowd !
10. I just think it's a ridiculous way to narrow your sales , by plastering a football teams colours all over a guitar! I would maybe buy a S.H. Bass, but not with West Ham all over it!
11. That is lovely. I would be tempted if I hadn't already got my Barefaced super twin . Good luck and have a bump on me!
12. When you are relying on someone else providing rehearsal space which they are making money out of, the results very often are disappointing . You quite often find gear that has been abused and not looked after, quite often in an advanced state of disrepair. If you want good rehearsal space, get your own if possible . I know this isn't always possible and I know all rented places are not bad, but generally, if you want quality, you have to do it yourself.
13. I the past,I'm always had super low action because I thought that's what you did. I thought good players would have super low action just the same as guitarists. I used to play with constant fret click, which would transmit through the PA .eventually, I realised that if I raised the action a bit, my sound would clean up. Now I play with the action set pretty high, although, I will bring it down until the buzz appears, then back it off again. As for measurements, just play what feels right!
14. This is one loss I am genuinely sorry about because he was one of the first bass players I'd ever actually listened and marvelled at. The line behind the solo in all right now, still amazes me!
15. I fear for the music industry if that is considered head line material !
16. It's very sad indeed but going in your sleep? That would do for me !
17. I agree, anyone can become amazing if the are prepared to work, work, work at it. On the other hand , some annoying people, like my girlfriends brother, are just born with the ability to be just good right away. He didn't pick up a guitar until he was 13. Within three years, he was a virtuoso, who could play any Rush song you could name flawlessly, since then, he has become the best guitarist I've ever met in real life. It's so bloody annoying!
18.
Scary. Anonymous are after you Kanye https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tibphZYyODo
Yeah, I seen that on facetube. Ya gotta be scared if those buggers are after you, I mean imagine getting anonymous mail ! Or even worse , anonymous phone calls! I would die if that was to happen !!!
19. I can't get it locally, so rely on subscribing. It's not arrived for a couple of months so must have run out again. No reminder again! That's my only gripe!
20. I've seen the carburettors live and was dismayed when the guitarist set fire to his les Paul I asked him about it later and he told me that he'd swapped the good one out for an old plank just before the song started. Phew!
21. I can't understand why folk get so worked up about it. It's clearly a joke and quite a bit of fun too. I must admit even with my fantastic superior taste in music, that I like it from time to time! Heavy irony intended!
22.
Call me sexist but check out this girl playing bass. http://youtu.be/H_X7mMU6Gb0
Yeah, how come we don't get the using sex to sell bass skills with this one then? My favourite sex bomb bass playa !!!
23.
Indeed. I knew a chap who came down with a nasty case of truss rod.
24.
My band can't get away from them either, because I'm on the stage with them.
Me too, we treat gigs as our nights out ! We are all getting on a bit, don't care as much and keep getting asked back, so rock n roll it is !
25.
The inability to escape drunken, middle aged twats, dad dancing their way through the set, pausing only to man handle unwilling women onto the dance floor. The last time some grubby little prick grabbed Mrs H by the wrist and tried forcing her to dance, he nearly got a bass in the back of the head. If that's who I'm playing for...I'd rather not play.
Same happened to me years ago when I had a paricularly hot girlfriend. We started playing a slow number and one of my ageing workmates grabbed her up for a slow dance. His hands started wandering as I was playing, singing and getting very pissed off! What made it worse was , she didn't stop him. She was a real witch!!
