1. hmmm, if only the fact that tesco crisps taste better than walkers were reflected in a similar fashion in the bass world...
2. I just love the low mids boosted for jazz perhaps?
3. No problem, but I reckon Eldar (the pianist) is the best part, is that sacrilege?
4. Magic stuff although, i do suspect a little miming may be on the cards there? (the country section gave it away Larry)
5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzRT3yu-3dc Marco Panascia is fresh
6. thinman is certainly right there, cos 'another one bites the dust' just doesn't sound right if it's not being played by the right person
7.
Being called overated isn't always a criticism. I think most of the bass players mentionned on here would willingly agree that they are overated in some quaters. Calling Victor Wooten the best player of all time is overating him. It doesn't detract from the fact that he certainly knows his onions. Its more of a statement about his fans than his playing ability. If anything, I'd be happy to have fans that idolise me so much that they "overate" me. And as for the people moaning about these kind of threads - you're smart enough to switch on a PC and use the internet, but not smart enough to realise this is purely based on opinion? If you don't like it, why keep BUMPing it up with your pointless comments? And for what its worth: Mark King : Technically very clever, musically terrible Jaco : Just not my cup of tea Flea : Fleas.
Not worth much then.
8. Linley Marthe who played with Joe Zawinul before he died
9. Dya reckon that Stevie is the greatest metal bassist ever?
10. Yeah, basically just wondering what the most challenging (for any reason) bassline/riff/thing you guys have conquered before? If it was me, I'd say that the bassline to Dream Theater's 'The Dance of Eternity' was a bit of a slag to play because of general all-over-the-place-ness. How about you guys? X
11. If you havent already done your exam, then the bassline to 'The Dance Of Eternity' by Dream Theater is a monster. I dunno about backing tracks though...
12. I can't remeber when I got into playing with 3 fingers (perhaps when I got into Dream Theater considering how much of a beast John Myung is) but if ring finger is coded 3, middle finger is 2 and index finger is 1, then keeping the motion of 321 321 321 but counting in 4's 5's or 7's with an accent on the first beat of the beat group seemed like a good method for me. So the accented note comes on the 1st beat of each group of four beats, but because three fingers are used, the accented finger will change. Hope this is handy! xXx
13. Hey everyone, thought I'd sign up because it seems that the collective breadth of knowledge on this page is absolutely amazing- looks like any queries (no matter how obscure) can be solved within a few minutes. But anywho, just for the record; I'm 18, been playing 5ish years, into jazz, funk, blues, metal (of course- I'm a teenager) and mostly anything interesting thats out there. In terms of gear used, I tend to play a Yamaha RBX 775 bass usually with D'Addario strings (some sort of medium gauge), through a Randall Road Warrior B1000 amp that actually used to be Dave Pegg's (yes really), and it is built into a 2X10 cab that (aww) my dad made for my birthday (I think his usuer name is Longmayyourun- hassle him and I'm sure he'll send you some pictures of the magic guitars and bass he has just finished/in the process of finishing). In terms of effects, I only use a Marshall Guvnor/ (Dads) Boss Overdrive pedal for gigging, but with solo shizzle I like to fall back on the Ibanez Chorus, Boss DD6 delay and PS5 shifter with a touch of Morley Pro Series 2 Wah/Volume pedal that reside in my room. But basically, I'm just looking to expand my understanding of how the world of bass can work! Ben xXx
