  1. Hahaha...i was just about to start a JV porn thread when i thought hmmm best check there isn't one already - good job i did. Anyhow bought a 1983 JV Precision about a month ago now and loving it to freakin' bits. I'm a tad confused to what the wood it is, even if the body is original??? - it looks like tiger stripes ish...its pretty anyhow - its also stamped LX in the neck pocket, see bottom picture...have any of you other JV owners got anything like this??? I'm a bit clueless about these things to be honest. I've managed to get a reissue bridge (cheers Luke ) as the previous was non standard and i've changed the pickguard as the previous was a bit...well lets just say pepperoni style and knackered. I've also replaced the original Squier 83 pickups for some late 70's DiMarzio's to try them out for a bit and have also fitted some new electrics (big thanks to Kiogon) that have a vintage circuit and some special PIO capacitor thingy - its very good indeed and i recommend Kiogons kits for £25...plus no soldering needed - check on here in B/C ville. Anyhow the result is astounding!!! I totally prefer the DiMarzio's (so far) to the originals as it is a lot more defined and has a bit more low mids, very hot too...lots of funkput - but smooth at the same time. Alas do not fear though the original Squier electrics with the raised A string poles on the pickup will be going in a new bitsa P currently under construction. Why do they raise the A string poles anyhow???? So, JV Squiers eh??? Fenders best kept secret???...my mate prefers my JV to his US 77 P...and to be honest i do too. So some pics of Angel:
  2. Same again here-big thumbs up!!!, John made up a P-bass wired kit with the special PIO capacitors for my JV P. Sounds totally awesome and coupled with the 70's D'marzio pick up that i have just fitted i'm in P heaven. Top quality build and a great chappy to deal with. I know where i shall come in future for my bass electrics needs. Thanks John
  3. Just bought a Mighty might P neck off Mark. A Great item and well decorated Mark is a top feller to deal with, with great communications along the way too. Buyers & sellers can deal in confidence.
  4. PM sent regards the Squire body if still available.
  5. I can't play slap for shizzle, but then i rarely practice it tbh...but i do love listening to it and have always loved Marcus's clean tone lots. I do love the dirty funk monsters too...this clip kinda sounds like a funkagasm frenzy of strangled groovatrons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK5IFyo0k0Q
  6. The OTB is the answer to many prayers, mine included!
  7. Er....Michael Schumacher?
  8. Even i'm going to this, had a nice invite to it. Quite looking forward to it too; i'm not usually into 'heavier' stuff but i have to say Les Claypool is awesome (as are the rest of the band!)
  9. I'll take the Dimarzio P, pm'd
  10. I love my bitsa jazz more than any other jazz i've had to date, it has an early 70's style neck, bit chunkier at the rear but still narrow a the nut. Overwound Lindy Fralins, Bad Ass and a Jap body (i think). Have to confess to having a serious bit of JV P love at the mo...a recent purchase off here - tremendous!
  11. Her: So what football team did you say you play for again?
  12. Recently purchased a 1983 JV Squier off Sid. Top fellow, did a good deal with me on the bass and good communications throughout. Thoroughly trustworthy chappy in my opinion and experience. Although we've both discovered Parcelfore are a bit sh*te at times (they were late on delivery...again) - i have sent them a nice email as my last 3 purchases have not gone without issues from their service, lets see if they take any notice-Parcelfarce!. Anyhow all in all a great purchase and a very happy JV owner this end. Thanks Sid, top marks
  13. I visited Guitar Guitar over Xmas whilst visiting the outlaws in Brumingham. Was very impressed with their shop, stock and friendly staff-they're very helpful and will let you try out lots of gear without pressure etc...however as mentioned the majority staff do seem to have cock rock long hair
  14. A simple line to play running around the living room with ya P & underpants http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Lovm1Re6fw
  15. Yeah Lost trident sessions is a favourite...but for hangovers 'Visions of the Emerald Beyond' it is...great stuff! I've even got a Mahavishnu t-shirt. Shakti anyone?
  16. I've had two of the 'cricket bat' headless Hohner 5's and two 4's in the past. Pretty good overall although i found the the B string was a little flappy and not consistent in tension or sounds with the other strings.... however i've heard there are new, tighter, strings on the market that maybe able to resolve this issue. Also i bought a Synapse hook from Steinberger from the US and fitted one to enable the bass to sit more comfortable, definitely worth a look if your not comfortable with the strap hooking. But all in all good basses and a steal if you can pick up a second hand one for around £200 ish...great dub reggae tones too. Merry Christmas
  17. Cheers guys, i'm sorted for now with my man Higgie on the case...big thanks for the offer. If i need more i'll be sure to be in touch. Merry Bassmas
  18. Ooola, I need several Ska tunes transcribing if possible. Preferably to tab or notes...i can read music but i would only end up putting the notes on the papers so note letters or tab please. Normally i work stuff out by ear but i am on hols and away very soon. I have just joined a new band and will be coming back pretty much straight into rehearsal so some transcription tabs would be a big help. Willing to pay of course, i think i've usually done about £10 per tune in the past...but the cheaper the better. PM me if you can help and i'll MP3 the tunes if you provide an email address.
  19. Just bought a RC50 Boss looper off Josh. Great price for the looper and a superb chappy to deal with too. Buyers/sellers can deal in confidence - thanks Josh
  20. Anyone tried the Joyo Octave/fuzz pedal?...seen a few on ebay - am semi tempted
  21. Live albums, well...it could only be "Babylon by bus" - Bob Marley & the Wailers - a true must for anyone wanting to check out good reggae bass playing by Aston 'Familyman' Barrett... also one of the loudest cheering crowds i've ever heard. Turn your lows up irie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmaAp0K9W-o Also Gongs 25th anniversary album is brilliant & i love Ozrics Tentacles Live @ the Pogmasters ball Miles Davis Live evil is another contender
