1. Big fan of his dub stuff.....was fortunate to play at a festi he was at and met him years ago...really nice chap, and his Ovation was lovely.

 3. I picked this bass up as i had a bit of P Gas but i've decided i'm a jazz man & a new bass shortly to arrive on the scene and a small debt to wifey means ones got to go. This bass is a great P bass, looks, plays and sounds great. It is of course a fake Fender Precision replica made to look like an 80's Japanese P bass. It was such a convincing fake that when i got i wasn't sure if it was the real thing and took the bass apart only to find 80's date stamps on the body & neck ....these are of course fake & not done by me i hasten to add -i bought the bass like this. Not sure why this was done, innocent replication? or one can speculate possible fraudulent activities or whatever - who knows!!!...... anyhow, none the less, the bass is really good quality and certainly looks a great replica. I have no idea of the parts used in the bass but it plays lovely and on par with a decent Mexican/CV Squire..if not better. Looking for £170 shipped, no case but will be well packed. Pictures here: https://picasaweb.go...feat=directlink More available if you need. I shall be shortly listing it on evilbay if no interest here. Forgot to mention, there are a few marks on the body as can be seen in the pics, the worst being on the back of the body 80's mojo haha. Also to allow for truss rod adjustment i have filed the scratch plate and chiseled a small groove by the neck.

 6. Cheers guys, I've got some love developing for this bass and i'm seriously giving it some major consideration on keeping the 5501 and going all passive. I spent the evening last night playing it followed by reading TB's Lakland 01's owners club...there was some great advice on there about going all passive and other mods too, big cheers for that signpost Bigwan I'm thinking Nordy's big singles and wiring VVT like a jazz but i will contact the Wizard pick up guys to see what they say too. I don't think i can afford to be without a Lakland 5 whilst i am needing 5 strings, they're just grrrrreeeeat B's and probably the only decent 5 string that will be in my price range . I let my Laky JO5 go in the past during some financial difficulty, my wife witnessed a deterioration in my mental health with the loss of the JO5, attachemnt disorder, PTSD and i heard and saw Lakland that others did not plus my drummer had not forgiven me until i got this 5501 If i do go the passive route I guess I will keep the active electronics in case i decide to go back to active or want to try the NTMB with my new pick ups. However I'm not going to withdraw the trade just yet , erm i think so, in case something comes up but the new lion of judah transfer on this bass was just meant to be and well..... come payday an oder for those new pickups could be just the answer.
 7.
Hi, I've got nothing suitable to offer in exchange I'm afraid. Are you possibly considering a straight sale?
Hi, I may do if something suitable comes up, i would need to replace it pretty quick though as i'm using the 5 regularly at the moment. There is a 5 jazz on here at the moment and i have mailed the guy for some info....i'll keep you updated. Thanks.
Sorry the 55 isn't working for you Lee. If it's any consolation, I know what you mean - I'm a passive head too. There are a few guys on that American site who've done exactly what you're thinking about - installed passive soapbars and simple V/V/T controls and been very happy, but it'd probably work out the same to sell and get a JO5. This is a cracking bass folks (I sold it to Lee as I've moved away from 5 strings)...
Hi mate, the bass is working out great its just my sound for reggae that i'm struggling with, if i was doing funk/rock regularly i would definitely keep it as it sounds great for that style. I may still keep as it plays really nice and i love the 'black beauty' looks.....just looking at my options really.
Can i ask what the toggle is for? Has this bass been upgraded from stock?
Could well be your old bass mate, i have no idea. The toggle, i am guessing, is for maybe a split coil setting? It does seem to thicken and thin the sound depending on the setting. I feel the bass has a lot of substance in its sound but i guess that depends what your looking for, i thought it was quite funky when i had rounds on it and got a nice slap tone (not that my slap is any good) and a good variation of other tones....just lacking in definition in the lows for me in comparison to my 4 string passive jazz.
 8.
Lovely bass - what about sticking some flats on her as a first measure and then having a look for some passive pick-up/circuitry combos - give Andy at Wizard pickups a call ? I've got some flats on a Lakland LOG 5-string (55-64 I believe they call the 5-string Bob Glaub nowdays) by the way - Killer reggae bass !
Yeah i've got some chromes flats on her now, sounds great. I really do love this bass in all ways and am seriously giving it some consideration about passive pick ups. I've been looking at the Norstrand Single coils as a possibility but they certainly are not cheap! I never thought about wizard, cheers for that. I really like Lindy Fralins but cannot find any 'soap bar' types that would fit. I guess i would need some help with wiring too if i go the new pick up route. My 4 string jazz, with Lindy Fralins, sounds great through my Orange terror bass amp and the bass sound is easily controllable with the tone alone but i'm struggling with the amp in active mode with the 5501 to control the bass frequencies as smoothly....in the reggae i play i need good definition in the low frequencies and it takes a lot of fiddling with the mids and the bass knobs, sometimes added treble, on the 5501 to get something i'm happy with but it still doesn't quite sound as good as my 4 string jazz.
 9. Any passive basses out there ????
 10. I've always loved an open G string, its got a nice ring to it
 11. l'ump
 12. Anybody tired these new Warwick Rockbasses (Just the W on the Headstock and proper Warwick style bridge by the looks of things) ? There's a few on eBay from the U.S. and they're giving me gas....please tell me they're crap
 13. As someone mentioned here you can get a series cable to make 2x4ohm cabs become 8ohms, OBBM on here makes these cables - very sturdy too. I can run two 4ohm cabs in series on My Orange Terror bass when it is switched to the 8ohm setting and still get the 500W as the amp runs at 500W both 4ohm & 8ohm settings. For flexibility i can run just one of my 4ohm cabs on the Orange terror bass in the 4ohm setting at still get the 500W. The Oranges capability of running full power at 8ohms plus a very well made series cable which cost me something like £30 ish give's me great flexibility, portability and most important still get the power. Having said all that the Terror bass is quite a specific valvey ballsey sound, dare i say 'one trick pony', ...but i really like it for my sound. From the other amps mentioned i highly rate the Eden amps; the Eden WT550 does 2ohms whereas IIRC the WT800 does 2 channels both capable of 4ohms - great sounding amps IMO
 14. Sold More pics HERE This is only a feeler to gauge any offers really however i may consider converting the 5501 to passive or just keeping it but someone may just want one of these and have the right jazz to part with. It has the NTMB pre amp which i believe is quite sort after, Bartolini pick ups, string through, Lakland Magic etc etc . Plays like a dream too.
 15.
The late great Jesus Dread and the Prophets - sounds like Robbie in righteous style. More roots:
Top tune
 16.
aha - our culprit obviously works in a library !
Agreed... definitely a dodgy librarian out there me thinks.
 17. Does anyone know if all Japanese precision necks has PB stamped on them????
 18. I picked up this fake P-bass off a guy on evilbay. It was advertised as generally 'believed to be fake but unsure' and in no way did the seller try to palm me off. I therefore got it quite cheap which suited my needs. He claimed to have picked the bass up elsewhere in a house auction or something similar to that. Anyhow it arrived today, plays alright needs setting up etc, electronics are cheap crap..not CTS pots and cheap pick ups. But what is interesting is the length some people will goto to make a replica - removing the neck revealed a laugh...i do wonder if this bass has had a fraudulent history before this last seller . Check the serial number font and no ® at the end of the Precision bass bit Hmmm stamped serial me thinks Wishful thinking How the hell do you get to the 'allen key' not 'x' head truss rod? Should make for a half decent project bass though evetually More pics HERE
 19.
Or just set your EQ flat, roll in a little more bass and use the Moog MF-101 to cut the top end from the sound and fatten up the lows like you've never heard!!!
I'm sold on the MF101 - i want one!!!!...just working out how much i'll get for the Mrs on eBay, my current rent boy rates etc etc.....I take it i've got this GAS thang then now
 20.
Can't help you out with the synthy stuff but the "normal" bass sound in the rest of that track is absolutely killer. I listen to a lot of dub and reggae but have never (until now) tried to replicate it on the bass. Any tips for getting that sort of sound? Cheers
Depends on the type of dub your trying to replicate and what bass your playing i guess but role your tone almost off, use your neck pick up if you have more than one and play close to the neck for a warmer tone. Flatwound strings are good or dead dirty rounds. Boost the bass on your amp, turn you mids almost off and your treble almost off...a little lo mid is good for definition - and a good speaker capable of holding the lows and particularly the cabinet. Some modern players, i.e. Bill Laswell, play around with Envelope filters also to get a phat sound without the envelope opening...but i prefer the aforementioned old skool method. A lot of modern dub is done on synth (sinewave). Hope that helps a bit
 21. Ites dready, hope ya well. I've been really impressed with Lindy Fralins although they are expensive - nice rounded and defined tone. I've got a mate in Exeter who swears by Villex for his dub stuff and i've read they're quite warm sounding somewhere, lots of output so they maybe worthy of a look too. I had some Delano's at one point and they were great but again quite expensive...nice and defined, perhaps not as warm as the Lindy's though. I'm a Lindy man at heart...can you guess ; they were in my Laky JO5 as standard (sadly missed due to financial reasons) and my now 'bitsa jazz' had them in already when i got the bass, although they're slightly overwound customs i believe...sound lovely with flats and warm funky with rounds. Had Barts too in the past, found them a little thin as passive but not bad with a preamp, i have barts in my now Laky 5501 with a preamp.....sound alright but not as good as the passive Lindy's did in my JO5 in my opinion - still trying to get my head around active tbh. Got Wizards in my knackered fretless...think i actually prefer my old Fender pick ups that were in it, the Wizards left me a little cold really. Emg selects are good too if on a budget, i had a Hohner B bass in the past and loved the passive sound of them. Never had experience of Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio, good luck with your quest though matey....i'm having one hell of a trip into samplers & effects , a whole new world that i can't afford ...we're doing UK roots stuff with the Rooticals again, as a 3 piece minus Daddy Teacha as he's moved to London - we're doing stuff like Mad Prof, Vibronics, Disciples covers and a few riddims and originals......heavy scoop vibrations
 22.
I'm only as knowledgable as many... But I like the ego boost! I'd say the answer has already been posted - LPF, open up the cut off, high resonance = win!
Cheers buddy - you d'man , Sooo it sounds like the Moog 101 is the answer from the advice here & having just read up on them. However they're a bit out my price range (for now) maybe. I've just been scouring the for sale section and see that they have gone for around £150 plus. I am going to have to sell my Boss ME6B (ala Student Zender), White JimDunlop bass wah and Digitech bass synth to fund a moog 101......do you think those 3 pedal are worth that much or i guess i could offer them up a trade (am i dreaming?). I've got an old Zoom 506B which i guess i could get my phaser and fuzz from if i get a Moog...and perhaps a little reverb too. Then i guess i'll need a moog expression pedal for the 101??? I've got an old DOD FX25 lying around somewhere too which i could dig that out as I also use the Envelope filter sound on the Digitech bass synth wah for this track: Would a Moog 101 help with this sound?...as I say I'm using the Digitech bass synth wah in the envelope filter 1 setting with the sensitivity and control at about 11'o'clock and the range is virtually off (8 o'clock)...i'm also using a light reverb via my ME6B - i seem to be getting a reasonably close sound, not great but close. Thanks again for all your replies and help.
 23. Is the Line 6 FM4 any good???? I read you can assign the expression pedal to any parameter...not sure if that is true?
 24. I've put Chromes on my Lakland 5501...no turning back...they're grrrrreeeeat!
 25.
i'll have a looky for the links too.. there she lay.. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/deviev...ep-guitar-pedal i want..

My LPF is a moog MF-101. It sounds like he's opening up the resonance as well as the cutoff both at once. If you're wanting to replicate that song you could stick the filter & a fuzz (& maybe even a slow phaser) on a loop such as an LS2. That way you're not trying to stand on several pedals at once to bring the effect in.
Cheers for the replies chapsters. Just been watching the video of that Source Audio....wow amazing!!!!
