Or just set your EQ flat, roll in a little more bass and use the Moog MF-101 to cut the top end from the sound and fatten up the lows like you've never heard!!!
I'm sold on the MF101 - i want one!!!!...just working out how much i'll get for the Mrs on eBay, my current rent boy rates etc etc.....I take it i've got this GAS thang then now
 2.
Can't help you out with the synthy stuff but the "normal" bass sound in the rest of that track is absolutely killer. I listen to a lot of dub and reggae but have never (until now) tried to replicate it on the bass. Any tips for getting that sort of sound? Cheers
Depends on the type of dub your trying to replicate and what bass your playing i guess but role your tone almost off, use your neck pick up if you have more than one and play close to the neck for a warmer tone. Flatwound strings are good or dead dirty rounds. Boost the bass on your amp, turn you mids almost off and your treble almost off...a little lo mid is good for definition - and a good speaker capable of holding the lows and particularly the cabinet. Some modern players, i.e. Bill Laswell, play around with Envelope filters also to get a phat sound without the envelope opening...but i prefer the aforementioned old skool method. A lot of modern dub is done on synth (sinewave). Hope that helps a bit
 3. Ites dready, hope ya well. I've been really impressed with Lindy Fralins although they are expensive - nice rounded and defined tone. I've got a mate in Exeter who swears by Villex for his dub stuff and i've read they're quite warm sounding somewhere, lots of output so they maybe worthy of a look too. I had some Delano's at one point and they were great but again quite expensive...nice and defined, perhaps not as warm as the Lindy's though. I'm a Lindy man at heart...can you guess ; they were in my Laky JO5 as standard (sadly missed due to financial reasons) and my now 'bitsa jazz' had them in already when i got the bass, although they're slightly overwound customs i believe...sound lovely with flats and warm funky with rounds. Had Barts too in the past, found them a little thin as passive but not bad with a preamp, i have barts in my now Laky 5501 with a preamp.....sound alright but not as good as the passive Lindy's did in my JO5 in my opinion - still trying to get my head around active tbh. Got Wizards in my knackered fretless...think i actually prefer my old Fender pick ups that were in it, the Wizards left me a little cold really. Emg selects are good too if on a budget, i had a Hohner B bass in the past and loved the passive sound of them. Never had experience of Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio, good luck with your quest though matey....i'm having one hell of a trip into samplers & effects , a whole new world that i can't afford ...we're doing UK roots stuff with the Rooticals again, as a 3 piece minus Daddy Teacha as he's moved to London - we're doing stuff like Mad Prof, Vibronics, Disciples covers and a few riddims and originals......heavy scoop vibrations
 4.
I'm only as knowledgable as many... But I like the ego boost! I'd say the answer has already been posted - LPF, open up the cut off, high resonance = win!
Cheers buddy - you d'man , Sooo it sounds like the Moog 101 is the answer from the advice here & having just read up on them. However they're a bit out my price range (for now) maybe. I've just been scouring the for sale section and see that they have gone for around £150 plus. I am going to have to sell my Boss ME6B (ala Student Zender), White JimDunlop bass wah and Digitech bass synth to fund a moog 101......do you think those 3 pedal are worth that much or i guess i could offer them up a trade (am i dreaming?). I've got an old Zoom 506B which i guess i could get my phaser and fuzz from if i get a Moog...and perhaps a little reverb too. Then i guess i'll need a moog expression pedal for the 101??? I've got an old DOD FX25 lying around somewhere too which i could dig that out as I also use the Envelope filter sound on the Digitech bass synth wah for this track: Would a Moog 101 help with this sound?...as I say I'm using the Digitech bass synth wah in the envelope filter 1 setting with the sensitivity and control at about 11'o'clock and the range is virtually off (8 o'clock)...i'm also using a light reverb via my ME6B - i seem to be getting a reasonably close sound, not great but close. Thanks again for all your replies and help.
 5. Is the Line 6 FM4 any good???? I read you can assign the expression pedal to any parameter...not sure if that is true?
 6. I've put Chromes on my Lakland 5501...no turning back...they're grrrrreeeeat!
 7.
i'll have a looky for the links too.. there she lay.. http://ironether.com/ http://www.sourceaudio.net/products/soundb...ss_envelope.php both expression pedal compatible, like the moog stuff. also may i point out this new beast of an idea.. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/deviev...ep-guitar-pedal i want..

My LPF is a moog MF-101. It sounds like he's opening up the resonance as well as the cutoff both at once. If you're wanting to replicate that song you could stick the filter & a fuzz (& maybe even a slow phaser) on a loop such as an LS2. That way you're not trying to stand on several pedals at once to bring the effect in.
Cheers for the replies chapsters. Just been watching the video of that Source Audio....wow amazing!!!!
 8.
sounds like low-pass filter and slight fuzz > expression pedal to me. there are plenty of ways of doing this, but my best recommendation on a budget would be the source audio b.e.f pro, ( when it becomes available over here in a cuppla months time ) or iron ether xerograph deluxe perhaps. with either of these you may still have to overdrive the input signal withe some fuzzy low-end.
Cheers for the advice dude, i'm a bit thick in the fx territory as its all a bit new to simple dubber me. Whats a b.e.f. Pro or the xerograph? Can you use expression pedals with them to vary the filter bit ?? i'll google them now
 9.
My first thought was wah and a little distortion, are you using a proper bass model wah or the normal guitar one?
Yeah using a white Jim Dunlop bass wah. Whats the low pass filter pedal you use? Also i was just looking up these modded Bass micro synths, looks appealing,...where could i get one of those?
 10. I'm trying to replicate the sound effect at 30 sec & 55 secs. I know this is digital bass but i'm looking to get something close live with my bass guitar, what could i need to make this sound?. To date I've been using my Boss ME6B synths sounds plus a little reverb and a JD wah to make a sweepable filter sound to good effect in a separate loop on a Boss LS2. Using the LS2 allows me to maintain the normal dub bass line and just wah the synth sound in the loop, its ok and sounds good but i'm sure i could get better. Also I am thinking i would like a decent synth pedal, one that can have an expression pedal added to control the filter sweep (not sure that is the right term ), and then i can do away with my ME6B and have all my pedals on one board.... any advice ?
 11. We cover this tune in my reggae covers band..always goes down well although we drop in a bit of the Apache Indian version for good measure We just play C maj on the run bit-seems to work well, the other bits are as per that tab above more or less - there is an interesting break as well. 12.
What's under the pickguard? Is it a large rout? I'd be tempted to buy if I could remove that pickguard...
Yeah it's routed out, no Jaco style on this one It's on the evilbay now and up very shortly with a few bids. Cheers
 13. Hi, does the expression pedal operate filter sweeps on the synth sounds? & can you combine sounds i.e put a reverb on a synth also? I'm currently using a boss ME6B which has great synths and am using a JD Bass wah to filter the synths i.e get those dancey sounds....but an all in one solution could be great. Hope this makes sense
 14. Just sold a Zoom drum machine to Mark. Top chap, great communications and quick payment too. Buyers/sellers can deal in confidence.
 15. Bump & on the evilbay.

 17.
Funk is about economy of notes, great drummers, great front people and most of all great weed. Ooops!
Somewhat similar to reggae too
