Bought the most amazing Musicman ray off Mick, a diamond gentleman to deal with. Buyers can buy in confidence. Thanks Mick
And i promised Mick i would give him first refusal if i was to re sell the bass in the future. Well i did just that and Mick bought the bass back hassle free. A lovely reunion for Mick, and am glad the Musicman enjoyed its short vacation to Devon. Micks a top guy and easy to deal with, buyers & sellers can trust him with confidence.
That's lovely, like it! Here's mine - very happy with how it turned out.
That looks lovley Nick - loving the pickguard combo, how well does it play? I'm really chuffed with mine as the set up was relatively painless, i shimmed the neck with a business card and the action is now superb and the intonation is great too. I ended buying a relic squire body the other day so P bitsa 2 could be happening very soon....oh dear this could become a new obsession

A good thread from the OP : I have to say i've come full circle having tried LOTS of basses over the last few years, some expensive, in a search for 'the one' & 'my sound'. I'm now settling on building my own which so far has been the most satisying and dare i say the most 'settling'. My bitsa jazz has a nice 70's thick Allparts neck & some Lindy Fralins...i've built it out of bits and have been hard pushed to find a better playing or sounding jazz IMO. My recent project is a P bass which started life as a Sue Ryder bass, with the mods totalling around £200 i've struggled to find a better playing P (apart from expensive old ones)...but the point is you can be happy on a budget i guess. Although i have found since i've been getting into 'bitsa' basses my collection is building again from 3 to 6 with 2 more potensial bitsas on their way I can here the wifey now "you only have one pair of hands etc etc....yawn yawn yawn"
Nice, just got some on ebay for £15 brand new. I'm going to try them out either in my Squire P-bass or maybe the Sue Ryder.
Let me know how you get on as a i'm thinking of getting some for a second P bitsa project i'm about to start. As say I was realy impressed with the ones i put in a VMJ in the past, prefered them over the Duncan design piuckups and for £20 ,for the jazz bass, they were a steal. I also fitted some to a friends grieftar years ago and he was really impressed over the stock Fender PU's too.

Haha cool, we cover both those tracks (no surprise there), The first Truth & rights riddim is great fun to play great tune Andy & Baby I Love you so Jacob Miller (Check the King Tubby meets rockers uptown version) - love playing this too Infact just remembered this, here's moi cheese trying out my vid thing on my mac however it makes me look left handed when i'm right, excuse the sh*te playing (i think i was hungover IIRC), may help some one work it out though if they want to: Check dem moobs, gotta diet one day!!!!

Another vote for Lakland, sounds like the one you played just needs a good set up.
Doing exactly the same myself to my sonic blue Sue Ryder bass. Swapped out the pickup for a Wizard Trad that I found cheap. Also, changed the pots, added a PIO tone cap & fitted a nice cream pearloid scratchplate. Was happy with the neck from a playing point of view, but it doesn't like the high tension La Bellas i use. So as I've gone this far modding it, I've decided to put a R/W Mighty Mite, nitro'd with a '63 logo, on it. Also £104 - probably from the same guy. Hopefully will turn out to be good P-Bass, when its all done. Not sure about relic'ing it though!
Nice one, i went for the maple neck on the Ryder body-was a nice fit too. I've set mine up now and its playing realy nice - good action and intonation, reminiscent of a lovley MIJ i once owned. Can't bring myself to relic now - change of heart, prob for the best. So far £60 on the Ryder, £20 on US Pick Ups (ebay), £104 on the Mighty mite neck (totally love this neck), £5 on larger ferrules for string thru option, £17 on the vintage CTS pots P wiring/PIO cap and £10 on an ashtray which i've left off. Total £216 ....Really beginning to like this bass lots too. Here's the bass now:
classic. you sell a bass to raise cash, and end up buying 2 more. quality.
Haha yeah that will please the wife and her ideas of minimalism of basses
Well done to you sir. If I may be allowed to whet your appetite even more; the Hohner pro. fretless is (certainly for that paltry sum) a great bass, as I used to have one. Mwah.
Cool, cheers for that - Mwah

Well its been a turbulent last couple of weeks, my radiator died on my Mazda Bongo, clutch went on the Volvo and everything else seemed to swallow my last pennies of late (Violin section please ). So i had to part with a bass to make financial amends -never a happy decision. After much agonising i ended up selling my 88 Stingray, but thankfully to the previous owner who is uber happy about this and tomorrow it is to be on its way to a beautiful reunion. This did make parting with such a beautiful bass easier, i must admit. Anyway after the car repairs i was left to get myself a cheaper bass. Well tonight, just in fact, i scored a Jonas Hellborg Sounds of Sweden bass on the bay. My friend had a black one of these basses years ago and i was always blown away by it but he said they are very rare so i expected never to see one again, let alone win one on ebay - can't wait to get it. Second score was here on the For Sale forum earlier, a Hohner Professional Fretless. I'm at my total budget but really happy of the outcomes after parting with the ray. I just hope my two new babies both live upto my expectations but for now i'm one happy bunny with expectation Every cloud has a silver lining
Hi Lee.Just an update on the jazz ,I have fitted a Badass and changed the control plate to a stackpot, V/T for each pickup,it make it a truly awesome bass.Best Wishes Rich
Hi Rich, Glad the Jazz is going well, it was a cracker when i got it at Mansons-it surely outplayed quite a few US models that day and that was at stock. The new Mexican basses have really improved with their quality and with your mods it must be a super jazz. My bitsa jazz is my favourite too, having Lindy Fralins and a BadassII but what i really love is my all part maple neck with mother of pearl blocks....it is a 70's chunky jazz neck that is super smooth. Despite trying 'many' other basses i keep coming back to this one.....but now i have room for another...decisions decisions -

SOLD Bought this funk machine a few months back off Macko 1968, and well what a beauty-he was sad to sell too. Immaculate for its age, probably the lowest action of any bass i've ever played, and looks a stunner. 1988 Stingray, funky as f$(£...need i say more. Oh the neck is gorgeous, slighty faded with age so is almost like somewhere between a dark maple and a roasewood coloured..it is of course rosewood. Has mutes, some Pre EB features too being 1988.......sure to be a collectors item. Original post here Hope Macko doesn't mind me using his pics: Looking to get back £850 firm which is what i paid, and i have to say it was a bargain + P&P (courier) or collection from Plymouth - Comes with hard case too. Or trade a bass + at least £400 cash (Bank transfer) for it. Ideally looking for Fender P bass (mapleboard), J bass, Warwick, might consider MM Sub/Sterling becuase i know i'll miss this but w.h.y. I will eventually put this on the bay' but at £900+ to recover those ridiculous sellers costs.

I'm building a P at the mo. Got some US pick ups last week on the bay for £25 and got a brand new vintage maple All parts neck off a guy privately for £104 with 60's decal (awaiting arrival) - he has more for sale!!!. I'm using my sonic blue Sue Ryder P body & bridge with P bridge ash tray. Also using a tort pickguard i picked up here for a £10. My aim is to make some thing like this 60's P: I'd like to relic next
