1.
I was impressed with mine until I somehow managed to switch it to disco strobe mode at rehearsal on Monday... Need to figure out how to set it back how it was because the mode its now stuck in is utterly useless.
I did that the other day. Try pressing the same button twice. That worked for me (I think!)
2. I have the TC Polytune pedal and clip on. Both great bits of kit. Beware of some headstock tuners, two others I have don't work so well on a low B. I love the Polytunes because of the accuracy of the strobe setting
3. Started bass in Jan / Feb 14 and have had weekly lessons since day one. I am far from taught at this stage, however!
4. I have yet to gig but in prep for that time always practice standing up. I do have a Fender stool for those moments when I get tired but only usually use it for my wife to sit on whilst she admires my bass playing inablities!
5. I get a sense, no science or fact behind this, that bass playing is changing in as much as there seem to be more players soloing bass and appealing to the masses alongside people like Alex James becoming "celebrities" in their own right and the bass being played more and more like a lead guitar. This perception may just be down to better media per post 35 above. but either way, I see a surge in exposure which should help take up.

7. Apparently PMT Oxford have them in stock. I drove 35 miles each way on Sunday to try one (and look at other stuff). Not to be however. They were closed due to a street festival but could not be bothered to say so on either their site or even have a voicemail. I called them first, no answer, so tried the mail order line, again no answer so took the view they were obviously busy, but not shut. Not happy. Soonest I have it confirmed the clip will correctly tune for a low B, I wll order one from somewhere else.
8. 2 basses (G&L & Musicman) and 1 RS112 cab purchased 1 Fender Rumble combo sold here
9. I am approximately a bass player, sadly too far away for me. I have a Ray Brown, Christiam McBride and John Clayton album that is great to listen too. Not what you are looking for, musically, but it shows an all bass band can work.
10. Does one need to be qualified to criticise? Based on 99% of the Internet, I would say not! :-)
11. Good luck. Out of interest if you have been only playing for two months, how do you know what to play? Have you been learning songs by rote? Or do you already understand different keys and patterns? I am intrigued only because after a year I have still to gig.
12. Quite honeslty, I cannot stand that sorf of public arrogance in people, correct or otherwise. No wonder the stage was so empty, they had to fit his ego in. On that basis alone, I would put Timmy Mallet and Jo Dolce ahead of him. In all seriousness, I with Timmo and jazzyvee' s post #24
13. I have one in my USA Jazz Deluxe and initially struggled with getting the sound i wanted out of it. I now ahve it sorted and from an active angle, am extremely happy, I do not use the passive setting as the volume fall away is quite significant. Would I do it again? Yes but not if it was my only guitar. PS if you are in Swindon it is not too far to John's house. Go and pick it up from him. I did and he offered to fit it for me there and then.
14.
Does a local festival not put the bass through the PA?
That is a very fair point and it did, I had not though it through. I withdraw my comment. The stack was on too though, honest.
15. Not trying to derail this thread entirely but a local festival last night had the bass on a Stingray 5H with a TC Blacksmith cab and 2 x RS410s playing classic rock from Motorhead, Black Sabath, Van Halen to Pink Floyd and he more than cut through, irrespective of his power supply. I was pleasantly surprised by his choice of bass considering the music but never got the chance to talk strings and settings. The tone was more than okay. Surely speaker sensitivity comes into play too?
16.
It that Phil's brother?
Whoops! :-) I think Bob Jones is a maker of Dog treats and food! I was obviously getting my woofers confused.
17. I tried a new tutor today and played on a Bob Jones Flightcase with my Jazz. What a stunning and natural sound! I now want the 300watt version as my exam / small jam combo. The only issues are the price and the fact that Bass Direct have one in stock!
18.
It was sad to see Lemmy looking so frail. He's lost a lot of weight and looks like his clothes were wearing him. His power is no longer there. I suppose time waits for no man.
Interesting you say that because I actually thought he looked ill. Certainly when you see Lemmy the Movie, filmed in 2010/11(?) he has aged considerably.
19. The new Orange OB1 should be on this list. Getting some great reviews too.
20. Stick some flat wounds on it and revisit the magic that is a Pbass! Jazz man.
21. Old thread resurrection! I was pointed towards this today and thought well worth a repost for those, like me, who have not seen it. Great instrument changes, with no apparent breaks in between.
22. Could this be a non event where the "get on with it" applied to the band that cancelled because they were slow between songs? Perhaps the heckler won't comment with your band? I can't comment on how to deal with her, though as I have yet to gig; I like to think I would ignore her.
23.
https://en.m.wikiped...iki/Emily_Wells Great violinist this girl......I'm going to see her in concert soon!
Clever. Have a Cigar I like threads like these. They remind me of the companionship of this forum. Sort of like Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict
