1.
Flatwound bass strings in guitar shops is extremely rare.
I tried several LMSs both locally and in Inverness with no luck on this one. Amazon was the way forward.
2.
Sorry Bob, but that doesn't do it for me on so many levels - vibrato, phrasing, some of the arrangement, but I love the fact that we all get things so differently!
Hangs head in shame.
3.
MXR M80+ for me.
me too.
4. Duffy does a pretty good version in the soundtrack for The Boat that Rocked. http://youtu.be/Rf9PpN2NIaw
5. Voodoo Pedal Power 2 plus. Absolutely no issues with it after 8 months of use.
6.
Since I fitted a J retro to my Jazz, I can't justify getting another bass. I have my Jazz and my P bass in reserve and they are all I really need. But it doesn't stop me looking.........
This, however, a five string is next on the list and perhaps a Stingray 4HH oh and an RS112 or RS212 cab. I have conquered my pedal GAS. other than for a looper! Oh well, I thought I agreed with gjones.
7. Not sure where you are based but give Andy Viccars a call. He is Milton Keynes based http://www.andyviccarscustom.co.uk
8. I am an 9 month long newbie of 53 years of age working my way through the Rockschool grades with a weekly tutor. I started at the debut level and thought, gosh I will never be able to get my fingers to work at that speed. I am now on the third grade and yes I find it tough, but am amazed at what I am able to do since picking up the bass for the first time. I practice every night for approx 45 minutes without fail. There are players who start and are apparently gigging within 3 months so. They are obviously gifted. My aim is to get to grade 5 at some point but also be able to play one number with one of the bands at a party next year. I am slowly remembering patterns for chords, arpeggios and the notes on the frets. I am slowly being able to sight read easy tracks away from the exams and, yes I get frustrated, but I am improving. Tonight started well but ended badly. I will pick up again tomorrow and the night after and the night after (see the pattern emerging? ) until I get it right for me. Not to compare with others but to compare how I did the week / night before. I get a real pleasure and despite only a couple of hours to myself each night, the bass always comes out and always make me smile. That's all. I learnt to play trumpet and drums as a kid, but I have really started again, especially the reading the music bit.
9. Patience, patience, some of us do real work during the week. PM sent.
10.
I see complaints every year about slap but if you want a crowd of people to stand and watch a demo then wheel out the slap. We tried what would be regarded as normal bass playing last year and there was little to no interest. Kicked of with the slap and audience straight away.
I am obviously the loner, I really do not enjoy the sound of slap bass. It would make me walk away! As a newbie and punter all this talk of too much noise is not selling me the event. I am keen to come along, but earplugs / cotton wool / endless slapping demos and, hmmm, I will need to think some more.
11. Bump, although I have now had a tentative pm from a new and unposted member.
12. Bump and free delivery within 50 radius of Buckingham
13. I had unsubscribed from this thread, but glad to see some stuff still coming through.
14.
Can't believe this hasn't gone at this price. I paid twice that for a Rumble 30 and jolly nice it was too. If you were closer to Suffolk I would bite your arm off, but have now put the housekeeping money into a new head instead. GLWTS
Thank you. I am somewhat surprised too.
15. SRV's version of Little Wing. At least I think Hendrix was first and SRV after.
16. Okay, the pressure is getting to me: £ 75 for a real bargain.
17.
I'm addicted to modern jukebox! There is a new one I had been meaning to link, blue christmas duelling double bass.
Pete, have you booked tickets for their UK tour? I am furious that I cannot get to any of the accessible venues. (all standing only too it seems). Details under their videos.
18. Bump. This cost me £220 new, so I think this is a bargain.
19. For sale my 8 (9?) month old Fender Rumble 75 amp. Since being bought from the LMS this amp has never left the house and is therefore in immaculate condition. It has been used for practice only and the volume never above 50%. Great sound from the 12" speaker but I have no space for this since picking up my TC stuff yesterday. Has to go (I am "allowed" one room and one room only for my music stuff!). Complete with manual and mains lead but no box. I may be able to deliver within reason. I get 23 to the diesel gallon and have limited time, so prefer pick up from nr Buckingham please. 20. I have been after a new amp / cab for some time but did not have the cash for it (despite some good deals on here). Based on YouTube, here, internet reviews and my own criteria (I had done limited testing of other makes but nothing floated my boat) I had four in mind: Orange TB500c; Markbass of some sort; AER Bottom Bass Two or the above. Not being able to find anywhere locally (or even not locally) where I could do a test drive of the Orange or AER and only very limited Markbass selection, I am just back from testing and buying the above. Wow! I have no idea if the others are better or worse but coming from only ever using practice amps, this combo is just awesome. The difference in headroom and tone is enormous. Still working on the skills, but now have only myself to blame if I don't get there. Now have to banish GAS from my head.
