1. You're going to have to tell them to offer a unit with a 90 degree angled rubber boot - ridiculous that something like that is supposed to fit inside a solid body guitar.
2. If this turns out anything like those basses you made out of the spare pieces of wood you had to hand then it ought to be very tasty! Looking forward to this
3. For future reference when checking if a pickup is defective (though hopefully you'll never need this) - if you've got an electric razor you can hold this near to a pickup (including those without visible pole pieces) and with the razor running, if the pickup is working then you'll hear it. An old fashioned tuning fork is supposed to do the same.
4. Each post showed a number preceded by a # at the top right hand corner.
5. Oooooooohhhh! Time for me to introduce one of my faves in this genre, namely 50 Foot Wave...
6. I'll admit to not having read every post within this thread but has anybody reported that the numbering system within a thread has now disappeared? I found it useful when I wanted to refer back to a point within a thread on occasion.
7. Have you checked that the pickups are ok? Can't imagine that both pickups would fail in the same way but do you get a noise if you tap the pole pieces with a screwdriver?
8.
I think everyone is just sick of those EE adverts he does now.
I was waiting for this and you've not disappointed me!
9. I think there's just about enough room with the humbucker in the mm position and obviously plenty of room with it in the p position (referring to a pic I found online) http://images.talkbass.com/attachments/untitled-1copy-jpg.1514186/ but as to how they sound in combination...
10. Gregor from BassTheWorld seems to like it: http://youtu.be/qx2po2sOncs
11. I'm a bit surprised more hasn't been said of Kevin Bacon's bass playing for the Comsat Angels, especially prominent on 'Sleep No More' from 1981. Maybe one to cover sometime?
12. That binding looks the dog's whatsits! I can imagine you bringing this in regularly for other builds now
13. There are plenty of people, me included, who can't cope with "Come On Eileen"!
14. Another fan here - saw them play live around four times or so (I think twice with Robert Smith on guitar). I always found them all completely watchable.
15. You might not need to raise the action (bridge saddle heights) much at all in order to reduce fret buzz and still maintain a low action. I wouldn't adjust the truss rod if it's just the action that's a bit too low and everything else is set correctly (relief, pickup height, intonation).
16. I haven't played one but there's a lot of love on here for the Sire Marcus Miller jazz basses - hopefully an owner of a 5 string will come along to add their opinion.
17. When I saw the singer I thought of Little Dragon but these guys are well funky
18. The closest I can get is similar to Artisan, but maybe the bridge pickup at around 1/4 to 1/3 and boost the mids slightly.
19. I have an unlined fretless so rely on the side dots (there's an extra dot at the first 'fret position'). I tune the instrument to be exactly in tune at the dotted position and I've found that I like to play open strings quite a bit (a good way to ensure that note is bang on maybe?) - I've ended up developing a bit of a technique where I'll sometimes do a quick hammer on after playing the open string to create ghost notes as a rhythmic device to the extent that It's become a part of my playing style.
20. I've already posted this on Chowny's thread regarding timber cutting for an exhibition stand; anyway here's Davie504 and the signature bass http://youtu.be/jFdtdqtH4O0
21.
I don't actually but the singer has one clamped to his mic stand cos' he got hit in the head by a digger bucket and can't remember stuff now. He is blissfully unaware that you all hate him for this. Here's an innocent picture of it at one of the fascist fundraisers you all think we do on a regular basis.
That looks a bit like The Tudor in Wigan (sadly missed)! Regarding the Dukes of Hazzard - I don't remember ever watching a full episode and I've only just twigged that the old Soulwax song Daisy Duke is about.... um Daisy Duke LOL http://youtu.be/PdVe4jpMu78 Maybe a song to cover?
22. This happened recently: "Drinkers rip down a Confederate flag being used for a Cowboy-themed party inside a Chorlton pub" http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/drinkers-rip-down-confederate-flag-13499466 I say lose the flag, you've got the outfits and stage props to support the theme.
23.
There's a first time for everything, and this is a first time for me. Normally, I consider myself a tech savvy person, have a mulititude of blocker (inc U Block), ghostery, cookie crunchers and whatnot installed and don't visit any dodgy sites, but I just got my first virus pop-up 'dial this number to remove the virus' scam.... browsing here. I don't want to install no-script because it's so intrusive but perhaps it's time. I think I managed to successfully zap it with malaware bytes, but it would have scared the bejesus out of somebody like my mother, who would have probably rang immediately with credit card in hand.
I'm running Firefox with YesScript and uBlock Origin and I've not been getting these sham virus alerts - I can't remember if I've ever had to invoke YesScript (where it lets scripts run on every site by default and you manually blacklist problematical sites to prevent scripts running - it's the reverse of NoScript in action AFAIK).
