1. I have a pair of HX112's and so does TinyViking on this very forum too! - I know that he has had his out for a gig or few already so will be able to respond to how they sound up loud, but my pair are yet to go out of the house! I'm hoping that will change soon! - The Hydrives are warmer sounding than their XL range counterparts but still retain that extra bite that the alu' cones give. I've found that as my own bass is quite a bright instrument, I am happy backing the tweeter off on the HyDrive cabs, but there's definitely lots of punch and low end there. I recommend getting your hands on 'em to try out.
2. Does this preamp have a model number, as there are one or two listed on the Nord' website.
3. Hey Steve, thank you so much for posting more pics I appreciate it - it looks that one has come available just down the road from me, so I'm going to leap on that one. Thank you though! Great price!
4. Hey Steve, what are the handles like on these cases? Are they the round ones?
5. Bargain for the 1516! I wonder if a cab like that would make a good project for a Fearful Bass / Barefaced- alike cabinet with the 15 / 8 combination?
6. A brilliant price for a brilliant piece of gear! Infact, that is a bargain to be had right there!
7. Heh heh! Yes sorry about the review lateness, I've been really busy writing for the next issue of Guitar Interactive Magazine. Any amps and effects that I review will be, as far as possible with my 6er, though sometimes that may not be possible. I'll let you know when I know more and will post my review soon.. Up to my neck in DIY and recording for a new band too which is taking up lots (of exciting) time. Kilo is sounding great. It has a natural fullness and lots of girth in the low end. Oh and mine likes to drive hard past the clip light .. I stop it just short of breaking up as the valves start to compress a bit! That's even before I use any of the other functions!
8. I'd say that on the gigging front it has been really pants for me! Lots of 'online band' projects and session stuff, but no where near as much gigging as I would have liked. Though I have to balance that with the rest of my music career that has been incredibly busy and exciting. The opportunities that have presented themselves in the last year have been amazing and I'm feeling energised.. And knackered! Lol. so I guess looking at it that way, I'm not down in the mouth about it too much; ive been working hard elsewhere. I certainly hope to be on the road again in the new year.
9. Hey Andy, I see you'll have one soon though right? Yay!
10.
In my humble opinion no, I went last year and was disappointed, and there was continual slapurbation going on from almost every stand, I won't bother again.
Have to say I found it very difficult to demonstrate on the Shuker stand as I wanted to show people some more melodic and tonal sides of the instruments, but no one could hear it under the sound akin to that of people building sheds with drum kits.
11. I'll be there!
12.
Ah Dood, its a shame you are not going. You were the only one from Basschat that I recognized at last years Manchester bass day. I would have come up and said 'Hi' this year.
Ahhhhh Daz! Sorry fella! I have to admit, the one thing I do enjoy about bass shows is meeting my fellow BCers! I'll be a bit sad not to be doing that this year.
13. Darren, honestly saddened to read this news. Bass Merchant has been heralded by the UK Bass playing community as one of the best, indeed elite of shops for basses, gear and excellent customer service. I'd like to wish you and Chris all the best for the future and hope that we stay in touch. Thank you for your support and giving the Bass community what it really needed!
14. This is absolutely FANTASTIC news! I'm very pleased to hear it!! Dirty thieving scumbags! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
15.
Im going to be hanging around the ibass stand helping nick wells out with that if you guys who are going want to come and say hi! bit excited, plus im being featured in the first issue! hurraaaay xx
Hey Chloe! - Facebook has kept on suggesting you as a friend, but for the life of me couldn't remember why the name looked familiar!! Now I know!! - I'm probably not heading up to the show, but I'll give Nick a buzz at some point throughout to see how things are going. Send him my best wishes!
16. Here's my review from my new 'The Bassment' column in the FREE Guitar Interactive Magazine. This video is out on Youtube now so it's ok to post a link here. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vyQa0VyWt4 Here's the link to the full free magazine - it's packed to the brim with reviews, interviews and stuff! 17. Thanks Dan and yes, you can still call Larry himself - or add him on Facebook! It certainly is Larry at the end of the 'phone too. He's a top guy and will help when he can.
18. Hi Dave, other than the afore mentioned weight and price difference, they are tonally a little different too. I'm running a pair of 4.5XL cabs and I have also recently swapped out a pair of HyDrive 410 cabs for a pair of Hydrive112 cabs for smaller gigs. The hydrives are designed to have a warmer sound than the XL range (that have a lovely scoop to them and sounds huge when you drive them). It's a pants thing to say, but it'd be great if you could get out and give them both a test drive to see which you'd prefer. As for the wattage.. I've ran a single 4.5xl with my 1000w head for months now and it hasn't complained.. After all, you're not playing at 1000w ALL the time oh.. And the hydrives have a tweeter you can turn down or off, where as the standard 410XL has no tweeter, but is a ported cab so will sound brassier in comparison to the HyDrive.
19. Oh - and to balance things up, I hope to be reviewing an OTB next month for iGuitarMag too.
20. If it helps, I have one of the first Kilos out in the wild here in the UK and I am loving it! I'm currently A/Bing it with my LH1000 and for the sake of other gear, I have an MB F1 to throw in to the compare mix. I think in coming weeks it will be likely that the Kilo will be the 'go to' amp for me. Hugely flexible and tonally rich. I'm yet to crank it but I expect it will probably be using the same two 500W modules from the LH head to drive it's wall caving capabilities!
21. And nice one Stag for hookin' up a fellow Bass player with the best person to answer the question!
22. This is why BassChat is the best flippin Bass forum going! Welcome Stu and thank you!
23. I'll be sure to address your points in my review! - Interestingly the 'flat setting' for the EQ in the LH heads is the typically expected 2-10-2 ISH setting for this design of passive tone stack - B-M-T, so it'd seem right that if it is the same or similar circuit, this is where you'd get your 'flat' points from. Yes, the 'original' design for the Kilo has been hanging around for some considerable time and despite that model never being made, you can see a variant on the face plate control layout on the internet.
24. I do want to try a streamliner, I've tried the predecessor heads and I wasn't totally moved by them. That was in a direct shoot out with an F1 and GK's lil 500w head.
25. Yes! I have! I'd been using Ambiloop a free program for PC. It is great fun and is feature rich. Infact more so than hardware loopers as it allows you to mix pan and fade each of the 8 stereo loops. It can be triggered by MIDI, so a controller can be configured easily. My one caveat would be too make sure you have a very low latency sound card / module and a nice quick machine as I have found that if you have a long latency throughout the system, each loop will layer itself out of time with the previous! I also like that once you have your eight loops, you can save an export the lot to seperate channels in a DAW ( I use Reaper) and arrange the loops in any order you like and post process. There are no doubt more loopers on the net, but this one was stable and easy to use!
