  1. What sort of items are you looking for in trade bigsmokebass?
  2. I had GAS for this when Pawel was selling it.... then it sold, so I was relieved Now you have given me a case of repeating GAS Seriously though, I'm not a huge fan of Mocha (as I think I must have said before) but this just looks stunning, with maple board and blocks That colour looks great. Limelight basses are so well put together. If only I didn't already have N+1 in my bass collection GLWTS, sorry to hear that you owe Mr Barclaycard too much....
  3. Stunning colour combo, with brown coloured tort guard, and the Oly White is a lovely aged yellowy tone... nice, very nice GLWTS
  4. Wow. That's a steal for a bass this good I sold mine a few months back, but only to make way for another bass..... And it was such a nice instrument, I really miss it. They're really well made and sound great These will undoubtedly become rarer, as they've been discontinued a while now, and they don't come up too often GLWTS, but if I were you, I'd keep it
  5. I'm a fan of tort guards, on black.....or white, erm and sunburst too But I must say Lewis, that looks rather nice - much more so than I'd expected Looks great with the maple board too. I want my gold guard back now! lol EDIT: PS. Although it was a tarnished guard, from a Roadworn P, it has polished up rather nicely What did you use to clean it up Lewis?
  6. Hmmmm, no I think I will join you on this one Ian. I think I do too.... Or should I now buy another unlined fretless? Does a lined fretless sound different to an unlined fretless? Can I convince Mrs S I now need another bass? lol
  7. Cheers for popping in Lewis - it was great to see you, and your new bass However, I only just realised..... I didn't make you a cup of tea! What a heinous, un-BC-like crime I promise you can have one next time, and even a chocolate biscuit, as long as you don't tell anyone It's a great bass for the money Lewis. I was really impressed with the quality, feel and finish, and even more impressed with the sound I bet once the action / truss-rod have been adjusted and allowed to "settle" it will feel even better. Love the colour too, really nice, rich 3TSB and in great nick too As I said yesterday eve, the dots in every position on the edge of the neck would probably confuse me - but that's more to do with the fact I'm all too easily confused lol I'm sure you could get used to them, or just dab some felt pen or acrylic paint over the ones you want to black out..... Let us know how you're getting on with it matey. You were right when we were discussing how you alter your playing style when playing fretless I had a quick go on mine just after you left. Cheers, and enjoy your NFBD Lewis
  8. There's a button for "like" "thanks" "ha ha" "confused" and "sad" .... but not for "groan"
  9. Thanks for posting that info + pic Jimothey. Looks like you've done a nice job putting that together and especially the finish Is the wood quite soft, or is it a harder type? Was it treated at all?
  10. Just like LewisK, I'm a huge fan of the Fender Roadworn series. Yes, I haven't weighed mine, but it's incredibly light - the lightest full scale P I've played I was going to consider selling mine, once my Limelight P arrived - at least that was my intention. Although my Limelight is superb.... I just can't bring myself to sell my Roadworn P Ah well, I'll just have to keep it! GLWTS - these are amazing basses - so it shouldn't be around long
  11. Was your J body from the same seller as the people who sell those kits?
  12. I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with this project. Cheers, and don't forget to post some pics and your progress with painting it Really interested to see what paints you use, and how you get on with them I'd seen some paulownia Jazz bodies on ebay, before buying mine, and wondered what they were like..... Does the eBay shop you got it from sell lots of them, and kits for whole Jazz basses Geek99?
  13. I've not seen one of these in 32" scale. Very nice
  14. These basses are truly superb. I really miss my old one. The rosewood board on this one does look great
  15. Can I come for a fortnight.... around mid-summer? lol
  16. Hi, I know these are a set of strings designed for Pizz playing - but does anyone know if these are good for bowing?
  17. Although I have several instruments around the house - I never really get time to spend playing anything much, other than bass and DB I do like the sound of the mandolin though, and always fancied playing one.... I have one, and spent quite a bit of time on it, and got so far.... however, I found the same as Barking Spiders - tiny strings and tiny distances between frets My podgy fingers just wouldn't allow me to play even some of the basic chords Then I discovered Bouzouki - it can be tuned the same way as a Mandolin (though on Bouzouki, D & G string "pairs" are 2 octaves) and there's much more space for my awkward, bass players fingers.... I just need more time to spend on it though! lol If you like Mandolin Barking Spiders - either give Mandola or Bouzouki a try....
  18. Like others have noted - Mocha is not among my favourite of colours However, this bass is the exception! It's a really nice colour / tint and the combo of Maple board and blocks / binding makes this bass stand out! I don't "need" this bass at all - but I keep coming back to look at it, because it just seems to stand out Limelight basses are absolutely brilliant, and the hand wound pickups Mark installs are sublime If I lived closer, I'd be wanting to give this a whirl - but it's probably a good thing that I'm far enough away to resist the temptation If I had space for a Jazz.... I'd be seriously wanting this bass GLWTS Pawel
  19. That really is a lovely refinish! Awesome bass. GLWTS
  20. Sorry to be late to the party - I only just saw this thread. I was going to mention Nick Cave & Kylie It's something that you might take almost for granted now - as it has been years.... But back then (1996) it seemed such a bizarre collaboration.... I remember being shocked! lol Didn't a couple of the Sex Pistols (Cook & Jones) also work with Phil Lynott?
  21. There are 3 female bass players I can think of instantly, on this forum I know of a few locally to me too. But you're quite right, there probably are fewer females playing bass Then again, there are also fewer guitarists and drummers too - and probably musicians in general, sadly.... If you are looking for a female bass player for a specific project - you may wish to put your location on your profile.... Also, you could place an advert in the musicians wanted section....
  22. The Vintage Modified series are really good for the money I had a P/J Precision some time back, and the pickups in that were pretty good I also had a Fretless VM Jazz, and that was a seriously nice bass for the money, and my route into fretless (not that I now play fretless that much lol) Pickups in that also seemed really good - I certainly had no complaints about them anyhow
  23. Thanks for your thoughts Mr Bassman, This looks like a really great cab! So portable & neat, and a real, practical solution for those of us who need to lug DB's around When / if you play Bass guitar through it, along with a drummer and several other instruments - please share your thoughts & experiences again I've now got GAS for something I didn't even know existed until recently! lol
  24. Hi Nick, I'm sorry to hear you had such an awful time - I hadn't realised mate. You looked so well when we met up a few years back Really pleased to hear you are now in the clear, and that the op was successful. Also, I'm pleased that you decided that a new bass was the best possible treat for yourself Nice bass it is too - and I note that LewisK beat me to it with his question I think I must play it each time I pick my fretless up! lol
  25. I have played heavy MIM's - and light ones too (the RW I mentioned earlier is the lightest full scale P I've played) My MIJ Jazz is quite light- certainly lighter than either of the US Jazzes I owned (and marginally lighter than the RW Jazz I once owned)
