  1. The Special came out in the Ststes in July, but didn’t get here til beginning of September. MM don’t mass produce, they build to order (from shops/suppliers, rather then customer custom order).
  2. Had my acoustic bass for 25 years now, strung with flatwounds and used with a soundhole pick up when I used to gig it. Phospher bronze strings and under saddle pickups are things of evil
  3. The D’Addario website has links to tension charts (under the red ‘buy’ button) when you check out a set. http://www.daddario.com/DADProductDetail.Page?ActiveID=3769&productid=159&productname=ECB80_Chromes_Bass__Light__40_95__Long_Scale Generally, flats have more tension. The difference between the 40-100 rounds and 40-95 flats doesn’t seem to be too much though.
  4. All three. Smoother feel, softer tone, last for ages or forever depending on taste. I use Chromes on my P Bass, had a set on for 18 months and I can’t see that changing. Chromes have a nice bright edge to them, and are a peach once they’ve aged. But in your position, I’d also consider the EB Cobalt Flatwounds, which I used on an old PJ of mine and now have on my Stingray Special. They are technically flats, but lean more towards the brightness of rounds. As said in an earlier post, flats can start bright, but these have other properties of rounds that’s a nice touch too.
  5. Love that Jazz Bass, it’s in good company there Gus. Looking good 👍
  6. Best - Music Man StingRay Special. In fact, not just for 2018, but period. Worst - Music Man StingRay Special.... because I’ve now lost all interest in buying more/other basses 😂
  7. It does indeed. And to make things a touch more complicated perhaps - you'd need to consider the new 2018 Stingray Special v's the pre 2018 Stingray which is now discontinued. There are threads on that bass here on BC. I'm a proud owner of a Special HH, having owned many varieties of Stingray, so I'll stop typing now because the bias would be embarrassing!
  8. Good question, and I genuinely haven’t a clue. Maybe it’s the wood selection, maybe the time they put into it. Or, (in a purely fun way) the cynic in me says maybe it’s...
  9. Without question, much smoother than
  10. So, if you REALLY want that new P Bass
  11. Converts - yee beware of the rath which shall be put upon you should you chose to defy the cause and pledge allegiance to the ways of the GAS. Winter is coming.
  12. Now now, I’m sure she’d have still loved Ringo if he’d have just been a regular dude, with a regular job, a regular house and regular pension...
  13. Indeed, you have great taste Sir. Barbara was my first crush, still my fave, and Caroline is a sneaky bonus. Roger’s smile says it all
  14. Nearly, but not quite as smooth as...
  15. Check out this vid, at 7 minutes...
  16. Oops, I meant masochistic!
  17. 😂 I think I’ll go B & C
  18. But seriously, how many of us abstainers still browse the marketplace each day? Option A - I've become masochistic B - old habits die hard, it's good to see what's out there C - Being around GAS junkies made me feel better about abstanance D - just temporarily lost the plot and am kidding myself
  19. True... so somebody please buy my Old Smoothie before 2019, otherwise I'm in danger of running on double standards, feeding the GAS
  20. Sounds like you're slacking Andy 😂😀
  21. Yeah. Strings and preorders seem cool. But the "if I find a xxx bass" make me chuckle, though im knocking it, temptation will always be out there, so for some why not eh? . But... If my first Stingray, which was heavily modified and easy to spot, came up then it'd take a sh*t load of willpower not to get it...however I honestly don't think I would, phew!
