For me the the built in SMX compressor is the star of the Trace Elliot show so I'd be looking at something in that range (What am I saying? I actually have one in that range ) As far as the weight goes, the combos are often a bit of a back breaker but my AH350SMX head is perfectly manageable and if it's a short walk into the venue from my car I'll often take it in one hand with a bass in the other so not that bad at all (and I'm not a big guy). The weight is definitely worth it for that Trace sound IMHO.

I'm selling my Palmer Ubertreiber bass overdrive pedal as I've just picked up a Lomenzo Hyperdrive which is now taking up all the space on my board so looking to move this on to make some space. This is a really great sounding overdrive that really brings out the harmonics nicely. A handy feature is the -10dB pad switch which is particularly useful if you use an active bass or your bass just has a particularly hot output. It also includes the all important clean blend to keep your low end intact. These pedals are built like tanks and apart from a tiny paint chip on one corner, a scratch on one of the control knobs and a scuff to the surface of the foam rubber on the base (where it obviously doesn't show anyway) this is in very good condition and is in full working order. I currently have this listed on eBay so you can view more pictures there - just search for item number 142547035341. I have it listed there for £35 + £4 UK postage but will let it go on here for £28 - again +£4 postage to the UK. Trades I'm interested in would be either an Ashdown FS-4 four-way footswitch or a passive volume attenuator pedal such as the Leech or the EHX Signal Pad.

I had the same problem with my DB112s and this was my solution. These folding aluminum steps were cheap to buy on eBay even for a pair and made all the difference to hearing myself properly on stage. Surprising how little the cabs had to be raised to make them more audible up close. I did initially consider finding a way to kick the top cab back but I think this looks neater personally and means I can still keep the head on top where it's easily accessible.

I did this with my old BA500 except I went to the extent of actually cutting it down to remove the amp housing section of the cab completely. Probably worth mentioning this will be a 4Ohm cab though. GLWTS

When our lead guitarist and I were at school we built a (horrifically unplayable) guitar together in woodwork. I remember reading in the 'build your own guitar' book that we used as a guide, that someone had built a guitar from a single piece of granite to try and achieve ultimate sustain. They apparently also had to construct a steel reinforced tripod to support it as it was too heavy to lift. I think I'll just use a compressor for sustain! Still don't like a bass to feel too light though personally.

£1099 according to the Ashdown facebook page. Not clear exactly what the difference is from the ABM600 yet though (apart from the compressor isn't there, the addition of the second VU meter on the output and the paint job). Not sure of the purpose of the second meter either. I know they put the meter on the output stage rather than the input on the CL amps so you can see how hard you're pushing the back end but this price point obviously doesn't realistically allow for a valve power stage. Be interesting to find out more detailed specs anyway.

I'm going to post on a car forum about the rattling noise coming from my car's engine and see if Vauxhall comment and offer to replace the engine for me for free despite it being a previous model that I bought used. I suspect the outcome wouldn't be quite the same as it was here. -
I had a Spector Legend years ago that looked stunning but it sounded really thin compared to my Warwick Corvette which was my main bass at the time. It also felt really light in comparison which I know many people would see as a positive but to me it felt like it was made of balsa wood and the neck was too deep front too back to ever feel comfortable. The worst thing was I traded in a beautiful sounding and playing (although slightly less pretty) Yamaha TRB 5ii. I sold the Spector on eBay after about 6 months and despite losing a couple of hundred quid (and that TRB) I actually felt relieved to be rid of it.

I once left an old but working microwave, a pair of stereo speakers that looked in good condition but weren't working and a single broken drawer with no handle on the front that came from a cheap old MFI bedside table, at the front of my house so a friend could collect it all and take it to the dump for me while I was at work. When he came to collect it all he found the speakers and microwave were there but someone had stolen the drawer. Always wondered why.

Other than actual gigs, my band only get together to learn new songs to add to the set but having our own sound at rehearsals isn't an issue. For a long time we'd practice at our guitarist's house while his young kids were asleep upstairs so he'd play an acoustic, I plugged into a tiny 10w Hiwatt practice combo and the drummer would just tap the rhythm on his knees with his hands. Good enough to get the arrangements down anyway. If it's not a gigging band and you're just getting together to jam then that is your chance to enjoy using your hard earned gear obviously but if it's just preparing for the gigs where you get to make the most of your rig then I wouldn't worry overly about having your sound at a practice. As long as you can hear yourself okay to get your parts right then job done.

I have a P, a J and a Ray that are my trio of gigging basses. The P gets used for about 2/3 of the set and is my favorite of the three - both to play and tonally. I like the depth and power of the P but I do still like a bright, aggressive sound with lots of articulation so use Dunlop Superbright Steels on it which works nicely for me. The jazz is a fender Modern Player which is actually 2 coil tap-able humbuckers so I set it as neck humbucker / bridge single coil which then sounds very much like a P/J and then use that on all the songs that I play with a pick (P/J with a pick worked for Duff). The (Sterling SUB) Ray I just use on anything a bit funky or with a bit of slap in it. I could get away with any one of them at a gig to be honest (and have done) but I've got the option to use all three so why not?

She apparently mentioned it to Gary Levinson when she saw him at a trade show and a few weeks later he sent her 2 new basses - both below 8lb in weight.

I always used to think the body and the headstock both looked too big on the BB basses but it's a design that has really grown on me over the years and recently I've been feeling a touch of GAS for a 1025x. To be honest though, looking at this I'd be more than happy with a 425x. Looks lovely!
