1. Are you using a lid when transporting? This looks a million times better than my last attempt (mdf and nails!!!) Dan
2. My DSP started as an Allparts body and neck. I added the DS, scratch and covers: I recently put a Squier CV Jazz body and a J&D Brothers fretless neck together: Problem is the neck's for a MM style bass (21 frets rather than 20) I've moved the bridge to sort out intonation: I may even tractor it up with some pimpin' Kent Armstrong Lipsticks/ Dark star with a scratch to match my P. Dan
3.
Agreed. Where you say "a metronome is a much purer form of time", I'd say "it's easy to keep time when you have a 'perfect' drum machine playing a groove for you - harder when it's just a series of unaccented clicks". If you want to improve your time, play with a metronome. If you want to have something to noodle along to without the hassle of a drummer, use a drum machine (or sequence them on a computer - who actually uses a drum machine these days?).
I agree. When I am doing hard, technical practice, I use a metronome on beats 2 + 4, like a snare drum (Thank you Steve Berry!!!). It tests your timing as does wonders for your internal metronome. Otherwise I use Logic, Ableton or HOBNOX Audiotool. Dan
4. Yeah, the PWs are looking mightily tempting. Especially since i have some rather large distances (back of the moog to the LS-2). Dan
5.
I use the ce2 which really is fab and ive been through a lot of chorus pedals.
Is that the CE-2 or CEB-2? Thanks, Dan

I just thought I'd conclude with everyone for the hell of it!!

help needed

Is there an input gain pot anywhere on the pedal (or inside)? It sounds like maybe the pedal's just not getting enough juice to do the calculations properly... Dan
8. Thanks for your replies guys. With power, I have about 2500ma spare, so that's not a problem. The Rockman looks nice, but part of my reasons for doing this is to de-rack. Why the Small Clone? I would've thought the lack of control made it a weaker contender. Thanks again! Dan
9. Hey guys. Since I put the board together (yes you'll get pics when I'm happy with it) I seem to be taking this whole effects thing very seriously. I've always added chorus to my synth patches to get that thickening and enriching of my sound. Likewise with the pod. Now I want a compact pedal to do the job. I was in PMT Salford (wherer ex-BCer Daryl helped me a lot, ta man!!!) and tried the Boss CEB-3. I was pleasantly surprised. I could get a number of quite different sounds that I liked a lot. The thing is, I've been looking at the Digitech X-Series chorus and the variable-voicing seems interesting. I've not tried one, and I'm currently looking for somewhere in Manc that stocks one, but until then (and in the interests of getting my post count up so I can have a cool label-thing): What do you guys think of them both?? Ta, Dan
10.
I have a slightly cheaper version of a midi controller which is a normal computer keyboard with most of the keys removed and bottle tops stuck onto the keys left to make a larger target for you foot. Works well!
Nice idea!!! With Ableton, you'd be routing the midi signals to do the same thing as the keyboard. Dan
11. To trigger changes with your feet, I have used Ableton Live on a MacBook, with a Behringer FCB sending MIDI CC changes to the laptop to trigger new sections and samples. My god I love technology!! Dan
12. Hey guys, I searched the forum to find cheap George Ls, but the links I found direct me to prices higher than posted (I can only assume there have been price increases based on the performance of the £). I use the same brightly coloured bits of crap that everyone else starts with, and I love their small footprint over a large Neutrik jack. I'm not a tonophile, but I don't want something crap. What do you guys suggest? Dan
13. With Ableton, I route a click to the drummer but not FOH. He's in time, so we're in time. Dan
14. How long does it take James to get back to you? I emailed him two days ago and there's not been a reply. Am I just being impatient? Ta

Kaoss Pad

Yeah, its possible to use the LS-2 to switch between bypass and a mix between the loops A + B. You use the knobs on the pedal to gain a desirable blend between the 2, boosting your Kaoss Pad to the level you need too. Dan
16. Thanks Finbar. Here's my calculations: ----------------------- ma Tuner-------9v------ 55 Octave ------ 9v ------4 Mammoth ---- 9v------ 0.5 DL4 ---------9v ------ 250 Low Pass ---- 9-12v----100 Line Selector ----9v ------25 Does that look right? So I can power everything off one powerstation, I just need a deluxe daisy chain and the connectors? You just saved me a bundle!!!! Dan
17. Hey guys, I wanted to finish the board before I posted it, but I have some issues. Here is is on my crappy camera-phone: I'm currently running the TU-2, OC-2, Mammoth, and LS-2 off the Diago PowerStation. Problem is, power is still taking up about a third of my board. I've done the maths and if I buy connectors for the Moog and DL4 to power everything of the Diago, the current draw is 450ma (the DL4 takes 250 ma on its own). The Diago allows for 300ma. Do I buy another, jig around so they balance up, and lose the 4-way and the Line 6 power lump, or just lose the 4-way and deal with it? What do you guys do about your power when dealing with high-draw equipment? Dan
18. I'm also interested in people's choice of expression pedal. I'm after something that's hard-wearing and cheap. I currently use a volume pedal with an insert cable (stereo 1/4" -> 2 x mono 1/4" jacks) but it's reverse-action, which is WeIRd!! :s Dan
19.
Bit of a difference in cost between the two, but is there that much difference in performance ??
Not that I noticed, but I wasn't listening critically. Defo worth a punt. Dan
20. If you're using a laptop, Ableton Live would be perfect. You can trigger loops of midi and audio via a midi foot controller, or arrange your structure and just press play. You can also route a click to your drummer and not FOH to keep time. I use it a lot, and it is the shiznit. Dan
21. For the vocal booth, I've used both the SE Electronics, and the Thomann equivalent: SE: £231 Thomann: £83 Both are great at eliminating unwanted room noise. Dan
22. I'm loving this diary. I've assisted in the leg-work of studio builds but no decision-making or problem-solving (the best bits!!). Keep it coming! Dan
23. Hey Steve, I was thinking maybe using something to tame the DS rather than boost the jazz p/u's as I'm a passive nazi!! Thats why the Wizards are appealing so much: no routing, very little fuss, hopefully very good sounding. Any ideas how the modern tractor replicas deal with the level differences? I'd doubt an active buffer would be the method of choice!! Dan
24. So what do I do about my set-up? Since moving the bridge, I can't fit the second jazz p/u at the extreme bridge position. Do i deepen the neck pocket to recess the neck so the nut is at the standard jazz-neck position? Or fit the darkstar in an extreme neck-position as opposed to the position on the Tractor? What d'ya think? Dan
25. Hey guys, I recently put together a fretless jazz from a Squier Classic Vibe body and a J&D brothers neck. The neck was a 21-fret job, going into a heel for a 20-fret neck. To get the intonation right I moved the bridge an inch towards the nut. The thing is, I'm used to playing a Darkstar'd Precision and the low-end is immense. Now I'm using a jazz with a great nasal- sound but a little bass-light I don't know if it is the pickup location or the actual pickups, but I need to add more bass. I don't want to go active (I love an old-school sound and the bands who I work with definitely don't need that sound), so it's either put in some bassy wizards and potentially lose the sound I love or add a DarkStar in the neck position and maybe buffer it to match the output of my Jazz pickups (like a slightly more complex and better-looking tractor bass). Heres the Tractor to show you what i mean Dan
