1. Wonder how much it is, there are no prices on the internet and I can't get hold of the company!
2. Yep, that's the one! The Big Chopper!! Thank you for your help!!
3. It's only just recently, but when i plug my bass in, if i move around, i get a crackly popping sound coming from the amp. I thought it was my bass so i plugged it into the solid state amp i have, but it was fine... i've only plugged this amp in a few times! any ideas?
4. Ok, moved the cab into my new flat yesterday, and as the rubber feet are missing, it scratched my floor quite badly! anyone know where i can get these from? the wheels are fine, just need the rubber feet.
5.
Buying gear to get someone's sound is sadly rarely effective. Note that he's using a U5 DI so he's running a clean DI to the board as well as micing the amp, so you're never going to match that sound with a bass rig on its own. Furthermore he's using the SVT810 cabs whilst you're using a 410HLF which sounds totally different - the 810s are tight in the lows, plenty of mids, decent top, whilst the 410HLF has huge bottom, very little upper midrange and then a tweeter for the highest highs. If you EQ the same as him your rig will sound totally different. Try cutting the lows, boosting the high mids and cutting the high treble. Raise your pickups up high, lower your action just enough to get some buzz and rattle when you dig in, and use dirty old strings. If you don't like clean sounds from a bass then work on playing your bass until it sounds dirty and angry even before you plug it in - it is possible! Alex
Thanks, what is a U5 DI anyway? see, all of this stuff is way above me, but i just like his sound, so i bought some of the same gear.. i thought the 410 was just the same as the 810 but smaller, and obviously quieter! will anything change if i have a play about with the tweeter? the effect pedals i have are; russian big muff, mxr micro amp and a line 6 delay modeler.
6. I see what you're saying Musky - but i just like the sound he has, i don't like clean sounds from a bass... but yeah, i guess he has the pa, i know what settings he has on his ampeg, but not on his effect pedals, so i'll just have to try and work something out myself...
7. I got the 4x10 hlf cab recently, and i tried to copy the sound, even set my the amp to the same settings he has! but it still didn't sound like that sex on fire video i put up. i found out that these are all the pedals and effects he uses, so it must be something in here, right?? # Ampeg SVT Classic Head and 8x10" SVT Cabinets # Avalon U5 DI preamp # BOSS TR-2 Tremolo # BOSS ME-50 multi-effect (With the expression pedal set to +1 octave for the song 'Closer'.) # BOSS DD-3 Digital Delay # BOSS RV-5 Digital Reverb # Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeler # Voodoo Lab Ground Control Pro controller # Electro-Harmonix Big Muff # MXR M-133 Micro Amp
8. Yeah it's a Voodoo pedal... wouldn't have a clue how to use one
9. Anyone know a decent place, preferably as close to London as possible, where I can get this done? I've just recently bought one and it's gone through the wars a little! I've been recommended to Matamp, but they're in Huddersfield, which is a little too far away!
10. What will raising the pickups do?
11. Thanks for the advise everyone! also, i think my bass needs to be set up, as the strings are quite far away from the pickups (think cheese grater)! so the bridge needs to be lowered... would this do anything to the sound?
12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSa7qfSY00k prime example of the sound i want
13.
Listening to some of the live stuff on you tube, it sounds like quite a middley sort of sound - still a decent amount of bottom end without much at the top. In fact quite a classic flatwound tone.
How do you mean, flatwound tone, the strings? i think he uses the same strings as me, d'addario nickel round wound mediums - i used to have d'addario prosteel regulars, but thought it sounded far too bright. I just love that sound
14. I basically want the same sound as kings of leon now, if you hear them playing live you can hear his bass doesn't sound the same as most bass'... Thanks for that info on the midi stuff, all way too complicated for me though!
