1. I always get asked for a 'retro' sound in sessions. My Darkstar P is usually my go-to anyway. Tone open for rock, and gradually more closed for anthing else. I rarely do modern-pop sessions anymore, and for most things I find a P or J is what the producer/songwriter imagines anyway! Dan
2. With the DL4 you press pedal A to start recording, then pedal A again if you want to set the loop end and carry on recording, or pedal B if you want to set the loop end and not record. The only time you have to double-tap is to put the pedal in reverse (double tap pedal D). All thats left is pedal C, which is 'play once'. This aallows you to end a song at the end of a loop automatically, rather than hitting a pedal in time and not being able to concentrate on your playing at the end. I enjoy the DL4 but don't get me wrong, the reliability is SH!TE. The delays are LUSH though!! Dan
3. i use a DL4 - the delay feature's good to loop a short sound and use that as a click. i then make drums with the bass (and effects) then loop chords and melody. The half-time and reverse features are cool too for a more glitchy sound. i used to gig solo bass with the looper, a fretted yamaha, an ns eub and a lot of effects and synths. awesome! Dan
4. Thanks Dave, Do I just pull the knobs off the shafts? And any tips when re-screwing the switches etc? I don't want to damage anything in the process. Thanks again man!! Dan
5. I know, in listening to it to figure it out, you've (yes, I'm blaming it all on you odub) made me decide to switch my fretless neck to my Darkstar Precision and make my Jazz fretted. You!!! PS. Sorry for that badly formed sentence!
6. Thanks Dave, I'm really loving this tone (but then so are my guitarists, so you're probably about to get a couple more orders). I know you put a lot of love into making the pedals (and you can tell), so I don't want to offend you when I say I'm not too keen on the finish. How easy would it be to unscrew the innards from the case and re-finish it (I'm thinking of leaving it bare and adding control names with a Dymo Label Emboss thingy for a military-look). Thanks Dan.
7. 71 fretless P. Thats gotta be the biggest influence on that sound! Dan
8. When i was thinking of ordering one, it was pointed out to me that the reason for their apparent 'cheapness' was becuase of the simplicity of design and cheap components. I bought a True Bypass Looper from them (as it doesn't require anything too complicated to work) and i'm more than happy with the product. I would recommend their products if you don't require anything too fancy (like buffers or attenuators). I use a Boss Ls2 to switch between NSEUB and my Custom P. Dan
9. How did you shape the contour where the upper horn meets the neck? I was trying to picture it (before you posted the pic of the back) and I just couldn't imagine it! Thanks. Dan
10. Hi Dave, Which version of the VT2 is this? I'm still interested in the new VT2-EQ, but this was a good price to see if I like the tone. Pics: Link: VT2 Dual Bass Dan
11.
wow, that looks really nice with that pickguard, i think it would look really nice in natural too...
+1 It almost looks Mary Kaye white as it is!! WOW!!!
12. I've used a Hartke A35 for many bands, electric and acoustic (but i've also worked with good musicians). the Hartke has been more than adequate for a few years and i would wholly recommend it. It has a decent EQ, an OK limiter and a DI out. Easy. The basses i play are fretted P, fretless J, Ibanez acoustic and NS EUB. All sound great!! Dan

New DHA pedal

So how much higher will the pedal be? I'm interested as my pedalboard lid is pretty low. Thanks Dan

New DHA pedal

Hi Dave, So how exactly does it differ from the current VT2s? Two EQs, DI, CDin, headphone out, but no longer 1>2? I've been waiting for a second hand VT2, but if i'm right I may go for a new one of these! Dan
15. I've put a VMJ fretless neck on a CVJ white body (and vice-versa). I'm actually selling the VMJ body with CVJ tinted gloss neck. They're both awesome basses! Dan
16. Night & Day for 'Good'* bands Matt & Phreds for Jazz 42nd St for 'Cool' Indie Satan's Hollow for Punk and Metal Paradise Factory for Dance & Electro Tom's Chop House for Bitter Dan *Subject to personal preference
17. For the DnB band i need complex sounds. we had a meeting this week and me and the synth player were discussing this (hence me bringing it up again). i thought maybe i could buy a multi-channel splitter, but looking at it i'm stuck with $1000 devices like the Radial JD7. The guy that owns the studio we use is a whizz with a soldering iron (we use lots of EQs and compressors from Neve designs). I could probably convince him to build me something but i'd like to try it out first. so maybe i should think about tuner - 3 strand splitter cable - boss pedals at the start of the chain (non-TBP) - volume pedals - passive mixer?
18. So just to resurrect this, if I'm coming out of my tuner pedal, I could just use a Y-Cable? Dan
19. I use a TechSoundsystems Neo 15 on a Quicklock stand: Its great, as I don't usually feel like I've lost low end, but I have to put my amp one the floor. I've been considering the bent metal plan or perhaps bungee chords with bent hooks as the Tech cab has a curved front!! Let us know your choice!! Dan
20. I always figured the only point in using the impedance switch would be when you're adding cabs. Does it not mean that you're continually running it so your cab(s) are always drawing the same power from the amp (or similar, at least)? Isn't that a good thing? My tech can handle something silly like 500w, whereas my LittleMark250 only puts out 250w. Until I get that elusive well-priced-Tech210-fantasy of using two stackable cabs, I can still draw the full juice. I only use one cab, and I'm more than happy with the setup for now, but I like the option of the switching and its not like I paid extra for the privilege. I was after a high-handling 1x15 that was light. The Tech was my number 1 choice. Dan
21. So is my Tech Soundsystems switchable impedance equally nonsense? 1 15" speaker, switchable between 2, 4 and 8 Ohms. I seem to remember a thread about it a LONG time ago, but since its along a similar line, I thought I'd bring it up . Dan
22. I would go with maybe a POG and a filter. Maybe the Electrix Filter, or something with and expression pedal control. I get some HUGE sounds out of my OC2 > Mammoth > CEB3 > MF101 > DL4 rig. Perfect for noisecore stuff!! I love borrowing my guitarists MicroPOG, tracks great and the +1 octave makes my rig sound even fuller (obviously!!). Dan
23.
It depends what sort of sounds you're going for really.
Couldn't agree more. A 'synth sound' is so broad, long sounds, short sounds, moving sounds, static sounds, pads, leads, basses. I can do about half of that with my setup (at least to the degree I want to). An EHX with an expression pedal mod would be an awesome thing, with the ability to do LOADS. Anyone good with a soldering iron? Dan

true bypass

Well, at least I'm learning!!! Dan
25. That is an awesome bass. Punk as F**K! Dan
