  1. I volunteer to replicate this medical procedure, Jack. I have a light touch and a collection of safety pins and knitting needles that I am sure could be put to good use
  2. I remain dumbfounded by the thumb rest below the strings. The prior owner must have had a very particular and unusual style of playing. Or never played the low B string
  3. I also suspect the hands of Vinnie Fodera never went near any of that bass. If Fodera saw that on eBay I bet they would demand it be taken down, if only as its damaging to the brand
  4. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124919206170?hash=item1d15c3d11a:g:OPkAAOSworBhTxs8 Particularly unusual touch is the thumb rest UNDER the strings
  5. Ha. This!
  6. Can you share the link so the DBers amongst us can take a look? Needs to have a decent board, bridge and slap happy strings (and obvs pickup, although you say that is covered).
  7. I usually find something nearby immediately after our soundcheck or - failing that - nuts and crisps at the bar. Glass of red wine when home, as I prefer not to drink on a gig (at most, a half of cider)
  8. Chris bought a Rick thumb rest from me and the whole transaction was immaculate. Cheers!
  9. Calling @Happy Jack. I haven't gigged a DB for a while so this comes with a slight health warning: The TH500 amp has a 1 megohm (ie piezo friendly) input so does not necessarily need a preamp in front of it. You may need to roll off pretty much all the highs and mid-highs to get rid of nasal piezo honk. Its a fine balance between dialling down the bass to avoid boominess and feedback and emphasizing the piezo's potential for nasalness. Afraid it comes down to a lot of EQ tinkering. On some amps I have had to roll off essentially all the tone controls. What would be useful is a high pass filter pedal such as an fdeck or Fishman Plat Pro to control feedback and boom. Looking at the spec your K&K doesnt have an HPF unfortunately, although it has other useful elements.
  10. I bought a set of DR strings from Vyn and all was good. Cheers!
  11. As I said in the bass confessions thread, I don't really care what a bass sounds like as long as it is capable of going 'dum dum dum' on a gig. Therefore looks are pretty much my only criterion (bar weight, due to dodgy back)
  12. Despite all the agonising on this forum about tone, I pretty much don't care what my bass sounds like as I reckon the punters don't give a rats @ss whether my high-mids are appropriately balanced etc. As long as it goes dum dum dum on a gig I figure that's fine
  13. I have just bought this clear acrylic thumb rest from Rickysounds for £19.99 but, having tried it, have decided I prefer to float my thumb over the strings. At £15 posted, I am saving you a fiver from new ... and its only been on my bass for 10 minutes tops. Comes with fitting screws. 14. I bought a nice amp from Nigel and he packed it beautifully and sent it swiftly. Top marks!
  15. Hi all. After gigs at the Hope & Anchor, Islington, and Fighting C*cks, Kingston next up is Fiddlers Elbow on Friday 8th April. Again a double header with The Vampirettes (crypt kicking lady rockers). Expect Americana-infused blues rock with tons of blistering guitar solos.
  16. Martyn P Casey of The Bad Seeds. Understated, always plays whats right for the song. Also owns the coolest 60s P bass ever (his stage bass for decades)
  17. Here it is with me a few years back at Spice of Life in Soho 🥲
  18. PS,if you go Jargars, take care. Some UK retail sites offer them without specifying the tension/model. You DEFINITELY need the Dolce version
  19. Well if you ever want to revisit the BassChat Kolstein circle of life, Jack, I would happily buy it back off you!!!! By far the nicest, travel friendly DB/EUB I have owned
  20. When I owned a Busetto (bought from Keith aka Mr Bassman) I regularly swapped between Heritage and Jargar Dolce strings (Keith had Jargars on the bass). Heritage are low in metal content and a decent hybrid string, while Jargars are steels but have in built dampening so they are thuddy and dark, about as gutty as steels can get. I also used Spiro Solos which are low tension but have that more steely, growly Spirocore sound. All 3 worked and it depends on how you really want to use the bass. For slapping, maybe the Jargar Dolces (like Lee Rocker). For more bluegrassy/blues work maybe Spiro Solos? Maybe worth chatting to @bassace or @Mr Bassman
  21. Rewind! Those are probably the stock Kolstein Heritage strings. Very hard to get hold of in UK. These?
