  1. PS, why not keep a cheapo bitsa in reserve. Doesnt take up much space and you may feel an occasional hankering or even recording need? I realise this is a bit late in that you have said you have already sold 'em all!
  2. ACDC did a nearly-as-good cover 😉
  3. Well I got it for the lowest price I could find available in the UK. Whether that qualifies as a "good" price is a different matter!
  4. A little over 9 pounds. My 4003 was just over 9.5 pounds There probably is not a (stock) Rick in existence that weighs as little as yours!!!
  5. I just replaced my JG 4003 with a JG 4003S and prefer the body shape, neck and weight. Has some beautiful figuring on the fingerboard wood too. Finally happy!
  6. My one has changed. I sold the 4003 (didn't like sharp, bound body edges) and replaced with a 4003S (nicer neck, lighter, contoured edges) which I am enjoying
  7. You could also pretend its a ltd edition Rick "Tuxedo" from the 80s
  8. Great job. The unbound 4003S model (based on the 60s UK version sold by Rosetti) has dot markers. I would leave as is and lament the many uses that 99p could have been put towards 😄
  9. Picture taken today with TI flats on
  10. Turns out I didn't cut these much so they might well fit a 4 in line headstock, eg Mustang. I measure the G string at 82cm from ball to end of metal wrap, then there is another 18cm of silk, for total string length of 100cm.
  11. This is a landmark moment for BassChat
  12. Big thank you to @Old Horse Murphyfor helping me sort wonky jack socket on my brand new (yes....) Rick 4003S. Took jack plate off his own bass and sent photos to guide me. Top man

You can get round that by calling them something else. My favourite term is 'clang stick'.

  13. 'Ways to Lose' is a great album which a friend of mine once described as his favorite album ever and 'spiritual'. Although to be fair he is a bit of a hippy, lol!
  14. OK, I am giving Ricks one last crack. Just moved on my almost-new jetglo 4003 and take delivery of a new jetglo 4003S tomorrow. Hoping the body contouring, lack of binding etc will make it feel more natural and confortable for a long-time Fender player. This time, as a precaution, I won't remove the pickup cover or change strings for a while so - if it's a no no - I don't lose my right to return to the retailer. But fingers crossed it works out fine and dandy. Still think they look cool AF
  15. By way of update, this bass is still available. Two things: 1. Be aware per the pics and description in my first post that this is quite mojo'd with plenty of characteristic Shergold cracks and crazing in the finish and a number of dings. Its no case queen but it is very cool 2. As a reminder its £450 plus delivery at cost via UPS (probs £20-25). It will come in an old hard case for safety but be warned the case is not pretty, although its very solid and functional.
  16. Hi there, its kind of on unofficial hold for a previous owner who wants to buy it back but needs to raise some funds first. If that changes I will PM you
  17. Jake actually said in an interview that the MW is based on a Newport: "I also have the Midwestern and the Midwestern II, which are short-scale basses influenced by an old Epiphone design—the Epiphone Newport, back from like the early, early ‘60s, when they were still making them at Kalamazoo. So the Midwestern is kind of like a modernized version of that." https://reverb.com/uk/news/found-on-reverb-serek-basses-vintage-modern-mashups Either way these are fabulous basses. GLWYS
  18. Probably means you have used up your allotted space for attachments. Click on your BC profile and scroll down to your attachments. Then delete a load of old, no longer relevant pics. Should fix it for you (I think!)
  19. Hey Nick, are you sure that isn't a pic of BassDirect's showroom?
  20. At least its Fender Shaped Objects, rather than Fender Related Objects .... as FRO could cause offense
  21. Guessing its Fender-shaped object? Either that or Flatulent Sheep Owner
  22. Another string deal with Tim and again all good!

  24. Now that I think about it, yes! Put them on my now-sold Serek bass for a short while but went back to stock DR Hi Beams
  25. This is what a short scale set of Dunlop flats look like. Do the silks match yours Nick?
