  1. Try me with a close offer
  2. Laurence is a BC member, under the user name of @blackadder (his surname, if I recall correctly), so you could PM here also
  3. Just a quick note to say thank you Phil and all the other contributors to this thought-inducing discussion
  4. Thank you for your comprehensive and extremely helpful answer! To the best of my knowledge (ie, eyes, hands and ears!) The neck has not budged an iota in my ten years of ownership. Of course I would expect any serious potential buyer to come and try it out and they can then satisfy themself as to the construction, stability etc as well as playability and sound.
  5. Hi all, next up for the blues rock-Americana incarnation of the WBWB is the Tuesday Night Music Club, a well known venue on the blues circuit. Tues 31st May, two 45+ minute sets from us. Cheers!
  6. I managed to take a pic with torch in hand of the inside where the neck joins. Can of you learned DB folks tell me if this is evidence of a neck block being added?
  7. Bought recently on the forum. Great tone but I have decided to go for a higher powered amp (this is 500W at 4 ohms, 300W at 8 ohms). Made in 2016, works perfectly, comes with nice padded Ampeg gigbag. Asking what I paid but may entertain very close offer. Post would be a tenner on top. No trades thanks
  8. Fair point but I think its the amp thats lacking. I just picked up an Orange Terror Bass (again, I know ..) as a stop-gap until I can get hold of a Handbox WB-100 all valve amp (not currently on sale but apparently they are in the works)
  9. "Right Said Fred" are the best band ever, just ahead of "Rene and Renata" OK, utter 💩 but its Friday night and I have nothing of value to say, and the use of multiple carriage returns seems popular
  10. Looks superb, enjoy!
  11. @knicknack had a try-out on the bass last night. I am hoping he will be along shortly to supply some unbiased third-party feedback on his experience with it.
  12. If I peer inside I can see a block of wood about (I guess) 4 inches wide where the body joins the neck. I tried taking photos (example attached) but these are not as clear as my vision. I assume that means it has been strengthened to "standard"? The former owner told me the neck had been reset so I guess that may have happened as part of the process.
  13. Hiya, I honestly do not know what a neck block is. Happy to take a load of pics if it helps answer the question?
  14. Well his album Tierra features bass player Ewen Vernal, formerly of Deacon Blue. OK, tenuous ...!
  15. Tried that early on in this thread with flamenco guitarist Vicente Amigo, who I absolutely adore, but fell on stony ground!!! A diss-fest is always likely to get more traction. Also, a band I really like, who do not seem to get the BC thumbs up, are Uncle Tupelo, alt-country rockers who eventually spawned Wilco and Son Volt.
  16. ELO. Can't stand their pompous over-produced Beatles-influenced music yet I seem to be in a tiny minority on BC, where adulation seems to be order of the day whenever the name comes up. Bah humbug, waves stick etc
  17. Although I can thoroughly recommend (for those who like a quirky musically-related read) 'Nina Simon's Gum', authored by Bad Seed, Warren Ellis. It is literally about a piece of her chewing gum but an engaging read. Believe it or not! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nina-Simones-Gum-Memoir-Things/dp/0571365639/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=
  18. Dissing NWOBHM? Surely everyone remembers the classic 'Angel Witch' by ermmm 'Angel Witch' with the unforgettable chorus: "You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch" Or the classic 'Name, rank and serial number' by Fist* * cough, I have this on vinyl somewhere in my mother's house
  19. it can be seen in the 4th picture - its where the tension of the strings can over time cause the heel end of the bridge to lift slightly from the surface of the bass. Commonly seen in older Ricks and, as long as not extreme, not an issue
  20. Amazing VFM, must be one of biggest bargains on BC. Would be mine were it not for my 'OCD nutter' (copyright Mrs C) aversion to overhangs on my cab. GLWYS!
  21. Lead guitarist plays a Gibson Les Paul through a loud Marshall (or other valve-driven, he has several) stack
  22. My amp (a class D Ampeg PF500, through a Barefaced Big Baby 2) sounded a bit lacking in oomph, for want of a better word ... OK heft, I said it ... at my blues rock band rehearsal at the weekend. Up against a valve Marshall and a second valve-driven rhythm guitar and solid (but far drom Bonham-esque) drums. Got me to agonising about whether I need a valve amp, a valve-fronted hybrid, a punchy class A/B amp or a higher wattage class D amp. @Happy Jack, who has gigged more than I ever will, said - as the voice of reason - that once through a PA it wouldn't matter a fig. And its true that most - but not all - of my band's gigs are PA assisted. So am I basically worrying about a "problem" that doesn't exist in practice? Stick with what I have? Your thoughts on a postage stamp please 😁
