I can do curmudgeonly, but fat and bald might not work on the tele...
I can do the 'Hamster' inappropriate-bordering-on-the-sad-longer-hair-on-middle-aged-slightly-chubby-man thing but I no longer have the Ric - does anyone want to lend me a fireglo 4001 checkerboard/toasters bass for an extended period, purely in the interests of televisualosity?
2. In my experience Alex isn't always the quickest to reply to emails, sometimes taking several days. I guess thats the customer service downside of being a small busy operation. I bet he will get back to you ... in his own good time! I don't have a number, I'm afraid, in answer to your question
3.
No worries about detracting. I just thought they had the best sound by a mile. I could feel certain parts of me vibrate in a not unpleasureable way with some of their notes. I don't think Bill Bailey rose to the occaision, which made me sad. Great weekend though.
I missed Bill Bailey (as my youngest wanted to keep our positions for Slipknot, his fave band) but I heard from others that he was disappointing. Shame as I like him a lot normally. My highlights of Sonisphere were Metallica (pretty much the whole set), Slayer playing "Raining blood", Motorhead "Overkill" and Slipknot "Duality". Just wish I had packed a rain mac!
4. Sorry to detract but I thought Fred Durst was useless and diluted a good band (I agree the bass sounded really good and Wes B is an ace guitarist). His audience interaction was atrocious. " So guys, what song do you wanna hear next?" ....tedious 30-45 second silence while crowd yells out song titles. "OK, you wanna hear Nookie or Douchebag. Which one? Nookie" (huge roar) or "Douchebag" (a few voices) "So we're gonna do Douchebag"
5.
Do you know where is possible to find a AC 4st used?
BassDirect and BassGear each have a 4-string AC in stock (BassGear has Jazz and Precision types and at sale prices)
6. Wicked! Congratulations not only on getting the gig but on overcoming what must have been a big mental as well as physical impairment in the RA
7. This is getting embarrassing, its me again! This time Jack bought my lovely old (well more than 10 years old, which I guess is not old for a DB!) Zeller 3/4 DB. It really is time that he, Beedster and I formed a gear-share commune, would save all this unnecessary hassle with stuff like money and payments
8. Now residing happily in the house of Happy Jack who is annoyingly going to be better than me at DB within about three months of picking one up for the first time!
9. Just sold a mag pickup to new BC'er Rafe, aka dba55. He paid superfast was very friendly in all comms. Happy to recommend
10. We generally s/c when the venue is empty - tend to soundcheck (as the full band) playing our opening number, just to get us in the right vibe. Occasionally we s/c with the one song in our set where we tend to have a bit of an issue with the start (it involves counting carefully against a backing tape) as it helps us get it right when we come to play it in the live set.
11.
I've got a good news for me, I just sold my 81 precision bass special so I can keep my lovely Wal. Clarky, you've done the exact oppposite ! That's funny.
Good news! I did sell my fretted Wal but I've still got my fretless Mk 1 Wal
12. I have one on my Baby Bass - it really gives what is reallly a semi-acoustic instrument a very authentic DB tone. Very niceindeed. I have no experience of this p/u on a bona fide DB but I am guessing Mr_Bassman or Bassace will be along shortly
13. On hold for 48 hours
14. If you could meet me in London, I would do it for £460. Thats £145 (24%) less than buying new (once you add in costs of delivery and custom cover)
15. Thanks moonbassalpha but TBH I would prefer one of the new lighter-ply ones with the vintage grill cloth. In fact I have potentially been offered a nearly-new vintage-style Compact by PM. That being the case I've done my sums and could drop a bit further on price - £475 incl post. Interested anyone?
16. Thinking on, If you were to order one from Alex, it would be £550 plus £25 post and the custom cover would be about £30 extra, for a total new cost of £605 If I were to price at £500 posted (within UK) I would be taking a £105 hit and you would be saving the same amount for a pristine, barely used, as new cab. Thats the best I can do. Thats probably not enough of a bargain to tempt anyone so it remains up for a trade
17. Trouble is, if I put a price up, it will have to be a lot less than I paid only a couple of months ago because thats the way the market is. Truth is this speaker is barely run in, I've only used it for perhaps 10 hours tops as my current band requires me only to play DB. Its basically about as new as you could wish for but I would have to take a big hit money-wise. So for now its up as a trade ...
18.
Does'nt the Midget have a variable tweeter?
Yep, you can turn it up, down and off if you like. But there's no point having one if (in my case) its permanently switched off!
19. Nice one Gaf! Muchos gracias and all that
20. I have a roughly two-month old Barefaced Midget T (new cost £550) which I got for doubling between electric and DB and has only seen use at home and a couple of rehearsals. Its in pristine nick and I have acquired a custom-made padded cover off eBay (Roqsolid I think, can't remember, cost c£30) I prefer my Wizzy 12 cab for my DB so would prefer something a bit more RAWK and old school for my electric bass, with a 15" speaker and without a tweeter. So is there a Barefaced fan out there with a Compact (preferably in the vintage cloth livery) who fancies a swap? Weighs just 22 pounds. Full specs here: http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/midget.htm Mine looks just like the one in gafbass02's pictures below
21.
I'll take it! :-)
Good stuff, I'll drop you a PM
22. Nice job! I like the imitation clay dots on the neck - never understand why Fender '62 vintage reissues (and Nash copies too) use white plastic dots
23. Another sale of DB strings to John! As before, friendly comms and paid super-fast
24.
Bugger, pulled the trigger on one about two weeks ago! I'd have had this in a shot, mine sounds great. Bump for a nice mag pickup.
That's unfortunate timing! Thanks for the bump and it helps that another BCer recommends this pickup How about £80 posted anyone?
25. Bump. As I have swapped over the strings on my DB back to Silver Slaps, I will throw in the used Presto strings (in good condition) with these brand new ones for free - so that's a new set of Presto lights and a lightly used set for £80.
