Want an opening act?

Sounds cool, Mike! I really like playing the Dublin Castle - the stage is a good size (unlike the 12 Bar!) and the sound was really good last time I was there

Normally mag pickups, unless they have some kind of screw or clamp arangement, are affixed with strong velcro or gaffer tape. I have a US-made equivalent (by Krivo). It has heavy duty velcro on the top edge and I have put 3M velcro tape at the end of the fingerboard to hold it in place.

Our next gigs in the diary are: 1. Upton Blues Festival - we are on the main stage on Sunday 17th July (6.20-7.35pm) - I will also be doing a half-hour acoustic set shortly before hand (3.15-3.45pm) with RB's singer Wily Bo, the lady singer who also plays sax, and our main tombonist 2. Arundel Festival - we are playing on Friday 19th August, onstage at 8pm
I thought you just sold this one?
Hi Keith! I only picked up this bass a few weeks ago as I was so impressed with my fretless. But soon discovered that a Fender shape and control system are what I am most comfortable with as far as a fretted bass goes. TBH I would prefer cash, much as I would like a Baby Bass!
Giving this a bump (not that it really needs one) because I'm listening to the album now and it's cooooool!
Thanks Karl! Glad you like it - anyone else fancy parting with five readies for a copy?

Quick turnaround I know but I have not completely gelled with this bass and its too pricey to not be totally in love with. I am in all honesty very surprised as its utterly beautiful to look at and as I absolutely adore my fretless Wal (together with my '63P, the fretless is a definite keeper) but for a fretted bass I'm afraid I have decided I prefer a good old passive Fender. Maybe I've fallen for Bilbo's argument that Wals should not have frets The bass is a 2004 Pete Stevens-made Mk 2 with Mk 3 smaller headstock and flush neck joint (ie, a Mk 2/3 hybrid) and with what is described as a "Jazz" profile neck (note that, although it may have a J width nut, the neck is still a good handful, more like a Precision). The facings are almost blemish-free American Walnut and the fretboard is a rich dark ebony. I have had the neck worked on by The Bass Gallery (fret stoning and brass nut lowered slightly) so that it plays perfectly. Comes with a Hiscox case (there was no tool kit). I paid £2,500 for the bass and £60-odd extra for the setup at The Gallery. I think that is a fair price for a Wal in this wonderful condition and would like to get £2,500 back. Would prefer to hand over in person but will post at cost. PICTURES REMOVED NOW THAT SALE IS PENDING< IN ORDER TO HELP CONSERVE BASSCHAT MEMORY SPACE! Note: fretless is very definitely NOT for sale!

Congratulations! I used to own that bass and the build quality is absolutely stunning

Lowering the action on a Epiphone Jack Casady Bass?
Clarky replied to basskit_case's topic in Repairs and Technical
Or, for £125, get the drop-in replacement Hipshot Supertone bridge which is infinitely superior and still looks retro. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...es,_Tuners.html Here's a pick of one in situ on an SG type bass -
It's $4500 in the US, which probably means it would cost about £4000 to import including duty, shipping
Actually its being sold direct on eBay for $4,995. I wonder if they have ben knocked over in the rush of bass players wishing to butcher their beautiful Precision basses to end up with something that looks like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Convert-your-Precision...=item3a5cb15da9
Hmm... It's tempting. Would you be prepared to leave the 'Are you Ken Smith?' tickbox blank, so I can avoid the $297 surcharge?
I am afraid not. Oh and in making me type this reply you have taken up some of my valuable time for which you will be receiving my bill shortly -

One copy of the most excellent CD winging its way to Eight. Anyone else?

Given the rather disappointing turn taken by the 'Bands wanted - London and Surrey' thread, I am hoping that we can arrange a BassChat triple header of Rattlin Bone, The Jetsonics and Dick Venom in an alternative venue. Can anyone recommend a decent central London venue that can be hired and has decent PA, sound engineer etc? I know the Purple Turtle in Camden used to be available for hire and I will be contacting them, but are there any others you know of? Cheers Clarky

I've created a Flickr account and transferred my Gear Porn pics there (just click on link in my sig)

Some sick slap bass from a French gypsy jazzer
The best tip for making an acoustic bass useable at gigs would probably be leaving it in it's case and getting out a good electric bass.
I'll bear that tip in mind

POLL! Who uses a hard case for gigs, and who uses a gig bag?
Clarky replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
Mono semi-hard case for me. Lots of useful storage pockets and more comfy to carry than my Hiscox case. -
Thanks Michael. Frankly, count Rattlin Bone out too. Some of the band (like BigRedX) would have to travel a long way to play the Barbican and I would die of embarrassment if the venue and gig turned out even half as bad as the one described above. Sorry Bankai but it's a no from us unless there are decent answers to the issues raised by Linus27.
I`m currently depping for a rock band called Cherry Scream. They`ve been together for 8 weeks (I`ve been with them for 5/6 wks). First gig last night at The White Swan in Aylesbury, for a friend of theirs birthday. Gig went very well, did 11 songs, the audience were very appreciative, especially when they found out how short a time the band had been going.
Nice one Lozz as I know how cut up you were when your last band folded. Onwards and upwards mate

Update: I got a K&K floating bridge pickup which installed in about two minutes. Used it at an acoustic rehearsal yesterday (in addition to Rattlin Bone, we are doing an all- acoustic blues set comprising vocals, guitar, sax and bass at Upton Blues festival next month) and it sounded excellent through an Acoustic Image rig. Very good tone with no issues (albeit we were not playing at high volume so feedback was never likely to rear its ugly head). A/B'd it with my Eminence and it sounded much more appropriate for this band line-up (the Realist on the Eminence makes it a bit darker sounding and also picks up finger noise more, neither of which are problems in the bigger band). Conclusion: as the Talkbass reviewers said, it's a highly recommended piece of kit!
