1. Unfortunately the Eko is notorious for not being amenable to the low-tech option as it has a sort of oval sound hole
2.
I've only used my recently acquired Takamine B10 once live so far and didn't have any problems with feedback. There is a "Feedback Absorber" or a "tunable feedback attenuation circuit" built into the onboard AD Series Preamp but I've not had to use it yet.
I guess the difference, Keith, is that your Takamine was designed with amplified playing in mind (hence the electronics and presumably construction too) whereas my 1980s Eko did not come with pickup and was probably only meant to be played 100% acoustically.
3. Thanks Duncan. Not what I wanted to hear but, in truth, what I expected I can't see me having any use for this if I can't use it live as its not the sort of instrument I play at home (I prefer thumping away on my electrics or my DBs) and I won't be playing in a very quiet acoustic line-up. At least it was cheap!
4. I bought an Eko fretless recently to use in an acoustic spin-off of Rattlin Bone. I have had to abandon the idea of using it live, though, as it feeds back whenever it gets to any sort of usable onstage volume. Is this is just a hazard of acoustic basses (its much worse say than my DBs have ever been) or do I need to experiment further with pickups/mic'ing etc? It currently has a K&K Floating pickup on it which comes very highly recommended on TalkBass.
5.
Banned in my house
Here ya go - just pretend you're reading about compressors or something equally tech-y on BassChat
6. Last reminder for Rattlin Bone's spot at the Upton Blues festival tomorrow Main stage 6.20-7.35pm (and a 4-piece all-acoustic blues set at 3.15 on the Acoustic stage - singer/guitars, singer/sax, trombone, DB)
7.
So was this serious?
You hoping to nab it then, Wayne
8. Does it have a badass?
9. Just bought Stephen's Barefaced Compact - all as described and a nice smooth transaction. Cheers mate!
10.
So ... the SE Bass Bash is turning into a slap fest before it even happens.
I'm out if that's the case!
11. Very technically adept (and it's all I can do to tap my foot in time!) That said, it's unlistenable bilge to me I'm afraid. I like some classical (Ravel, Debussy) and Puccini operas but Mozart leaves me cold. I must be too young
12. I too am 47. I am definitely getting better but that comes from playing with other musicians rather than practice per se. As for the talent question, technically I am pretty poor and I have next to no theory knowledge (not for want of trying, I just don't get it). However I like to think I can play basic basslines in a very dependable manner, am always punctual and am proactive in our band. I think these are as useful as pure talent. Not blowing my own horn either - back problems
13. I would love to be shown how to slap a double bass, however .... Maybe we can persuade Paul King to come along (frequenter of the DB forum, for those who don't know him, and a LOndon-based slap DB specialist)
14. Nik, I presume you will be having a raffle and thus need some bass 'stuff' donations? I will have a dig around and see what I can come up with. Definitely have some vgc tab books (Bilbo!) kicking around, a Precision tort s/p and maybe some other bits and bobs
15.
I hope he gets back into luthiery again at some point.
+1 Paul made a nice Simonon-alike P bass for me and has some very original lightweight ideas
16. Surf green and tort go together rather nicely - check out this CS bass at Coda Music http://www.coda-music.com/product_info.php...bedce6c3b2b4d83
17. As they will be re-fins whatever colour you choose, it makes no difference whether you go original colour or not IMHO. Forget that they were both oly white and go for whatever colours you like best. I vote for a fiesta red P (a la Pino) and a sonic blue or seafoam green J
18.
Clarky, you couldn't!
You are right Roger, I couldn't! Have a bump on me for the most unusual FS listing on BC
19. Hi all, thank you for PMs and messages. This is still on hold until the weekend. I am out of the UK right now and the Missus would kill me if she knew I had logged in to BC. However as I keep getting messages I thought I would just make this clear. So expect an update at the weekend.
20. Bump for two sets next Sunday at the Upton Blues festival
21.
how loud is this as a single cab - say, with a shuttle 6 or streamliner? Is it on hold for long? Cheers C
Most Midget users on BC (eg Happy Jack) say its as loud as you would ever need for a pub type gig. Alex says on the Barefaced site that its louder than most 2x10 cabs and I would NEVER argue with Alex about cab-type stuff! But I have never gigged it so its difficult for me to really state anything firmly as I've only briefly tested it at home at louder than 'normal home playing levels'. Re: holding the cab, I am out of the UK for a few days from tomorrow and so will be talking to the BCer concerned at the weekend most probably.
22. That is very cool in a 'Close Encounters' kind of way! Good work
23. UPDATE: I have bought a nearly-new new vintage-style Compact off a BCer, so the trade offer is no longer there. My Midget (oo err, missus) is still on hold for a BCer - if he decides against it, it will go up for general sale.
24.
I can do curmudgeonly, but fat and bald might not work on the tele...
I can do the 'Hamster' inappropriate-bordering-on-the-sad-longer-hair-on-middle-aged-slightly-chubby-man thing but I no longer have the Ric - does anyone want to lend me a fireglo 4001 checkerboard/toasters bass for an extended period, purely in the interests of televisualosity?
25. In my experience Alex isn't always the quickest to reply to emails, sometimes taking several days. I guess thats the customer service downside of being a small busy operation. I bet he will get back to you ... in his own good time! I don't have a number, I'm afraid, in answer to your question
