1. I've sold maybe 15 basses on BassChat. If the price is right and the advert makes clear what is and is not acceptable then your bass will sell. These are unusual times, though, and money is in short supply so that quality basses that would have been snapped up 12-18 months ago (like yours) are now languishing on the FS pages and getting bumped endlessly. PS. Would you part with a grand without asking questions first? Perfectly reasonable to get lots of questions, although I admit that lowball offers always annoy me or offers that are clearly pointless (eg, would you sell me your custom shop Fender for £500, a Warwick amp and a Squier Affinity?)
2.
Clarky.....where did you find that picture of 'ol Jeff? That's a mate of mine with him in the picture!!!! Mr Berlin's never been the sharpest dressed man....
Just googled! All-over denim and high tops, what a look
3. I like the TH500. Its a good old school sound - I am not sure the hi fi slappers (you know what I mean) would be so keen, but for meat n potatoes rock and old style funk/R&B its great - I will be sticking with mine PS, good luck Phil, will pay you a visit after the summer
4. I would love to have a go on one of these. Might help my dodgy fretless intonation with the shorter scale and sounds wonderful from the various YouTube clips

6.
Martyn Casey. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
Good shout Steve but Simonon aces it for the hat
7. For floppy hat, flares and glove-wearing it has to be Nigel silddx Otherwise I'd go for Paul Simonon ... and DEFINITELY NOT this guy
8.
...and I've got a basic Aria PJ fretless you could borrow if that'd help you get through a gig.
Kind offer but I know Keith has a PJ fretless (my old one!) so I guess the damage is bad enough that he can't play any bass in the next week ...
9. He must really have placed a lot of pressure on the neck for that to happen ... or he had a bad case of woodworm. Either way, I know I'd be utterly bummed if that happened to my lovely Kolstein DB. Looks like this guy needs to bring a Fender bass as backup to future gigs!
10. I can't help out Keith, unfortunately, but just wanted to wish your hand a speedy recovery. Sorry about the iPad too - will insurance cover it? All the best, Clarky
11.
I've recently gone from being the bassist in a Pagan heavy rock band to playing melodeon for a morris side. Do I win a prize?
We do indeed have a winner!
12. He tried to sell his Alembic Spoiler a few months back on eBay (I got offered it on the second chance basis when the buyer didn't divvy up, but I had already spent the money!) Derek emailed me and was really charming
13. I have moved from death/thrash metal (2005-2007) to punk (2007-10) to voodoo swamp blues (2010+), in the last case shifting to double bass. Am now rehearsing an all-acoustic spinoff of my latest band, featuring only four of the 14 (!) members. Thats quite a shift
14.
If this sells does that mean you will be Wal-less??
Yep - its not that I am not wowed by the fretless (it really is the best fretless I have ever played), its just too much money tied up in an indulgence and I have overspent on DB gear
15. http://www.coda-music.com/index.php?cPath=27_247 This looks really nice, an aged 62P in vintage blonde The 64 surf green Jazz looks cool too
16. Status Hotwire half-rounds are really nice, and thats coming from a long-time TI user. To all intents and purposes they feel like low/medium tension flats but I think they have a bit more 'bite' and fractionally more under-finger friction. They are also cheaper than most of the strings mentioned above, including TIs ... which is nice
17. I have received an offer for the brown case. While I don't want to separate the bass from the case, I would do so if someone wants to buy the bass for £2500 but with a Hiscox hard case (which Wal now use). So its the Wal bass plus original brown case for £2700 or Wal bass in Hiscox case for £2500.
18. More pictures (from the previous owner, who is in Germany). These give a better representation of the walnut body colour - in my pic above it was taken with flash in the evening and comes out a bit darker/more chocolate-y than it appears in reality. It is listed under the previous owner on the Wal database as number 2231 http://www4.cs.fau.de/%7Ekoesters/Privat/Wal/walspec.html
19. I am looking to sell this, despite it being the best fretless I have ever played (yes, I have described it as a "keeper" but circumstances change). I simply have too much money tied up in a bass that I play very irregularly. I am mainly playing DB now and when I pick up a bass, its normally my Precision or Jazz. I would like a fretless still, but a much cheaper one. TBH the cash would come in handy as I have over-spent on DB gear this year. The bass in question is a Mach I in american walnut/mahogany core with an ebony unlined board (side dots at fret positions). Its in overall very good condition, especially given its age, with just a couple of minor surface scrapes and dints - nothing serious at all but I wouldn't want to portray it as in mint condition. The bass was made in Dec 1983, comes complete with brown Wal case, tools and card written by Pete Stevens. Its not heavy, by the way - not much over 9 pounds. I paid close to £3,000 from StationMusic in Germany including delivery (edit: it was a commission sale, presumably from the German owner listed in the Wal database - see post below), which I know was top dollar. I am looking for a more reasonable [s]£2700 [/s]£2500 plus delivery. I would be interested in a part exchange against a sunburst Precision fretless, ideally a Tony Franklin or an early 70s model fretless P-bass, obviously with a large slug of cash my way. No other trade offers thank you. I am in London, work nr Liverpool Street and live nr Hammersmith.
20.
Cheers Clarky, it's something I've looked at, have you owned one?
Yep, superb sound but definitely old school. I sold mine as at close to 50 pounds it was too much for my glass back
21.
I'm using an Agi DB359 into a Peavey Classic 120 at present and loving the all-tube tone. I was looking to replace the Peavey with a Mesa Strategy but now think I might look at a combined pre/power as opposed to separate units. OK, I might just stick with the gear above as it would take something pretty special to get better tone, but was wondering what else out there is, well, sufficiently special to warrant a good look and possibly a few quid
Have you ever tried an Orange AD200B. Not much of a range of tones but so syrupy and rich. And I would have thought bang in line with your taste, Chris
22.
Went out and busked for a couple of hours this afternoon and I was glad I put these strings on - my two picking fingers are pretty sore all over and the steels would've made matters much worse. I think they sound better on my bass than the steels did too. They were a bit wolfy in the lower regions but these are more open sounding. And slapped they sound great, exactly the sort of sound I wanted. Thanks again guys.
Nice one, TNIT. Glad its worked out
23. There was an ebay link on here a while back in which he sold a re-finned 62 Fender P (with added J) - went for £7,000. Was his standard bass in the 70s IIRC
24.
I use my penis on slow songs. Truckstop
Didn't realise you played mandolin, Truckstop Re: thumbing, Sting uses it all the time. Gives a nice, warm rounded sound. I've no idea how some guys manage it on guitar (eg, Jim Mullen) - thats tough when playing fast!
25.
And a DB?
Keeps you regular
