1. Scale length is similar, but a Fender Jazz neck is slimmer than a Rics, especially a Ric between 2000 and 2009. As for versatility, more people play Jazz basses than Ric variants in all types of music, but doesn't mean you couldn't make a Ric work (after all they were good enough for Hot Chocolate and The Beatles). Personally, for a single bass I would go for a Jazz, but then it depends on how different you want to be.
nice. whats the kingsley amp?
I ordered the amp when I was working in the 'states. When I ordereed mine in 2005 Simon Jarret made each one personally and I had to wait about 10 months, although not sure if this has changed (he got some blindingly great reviews in the US guitar mags that year). It is the finest guitar amp I have ever played through - I also have a Badcat Cub II, Atomic Spacetone and Victoria LPT. Finest reverb and tremolo I have heard and mine has a voltage selector (as I knew I would be coming back to blighty) and it has a useful footswicheable boost for solo's. I also ordered the amp with a Tonetubby 50 watt alnico speaker and this is perfect for the amp - highly recommended but these amps are like hens teeth. You can read about them on his site and Simon is a very accomplished guitarist which you can hear/see watching some of the footage of him playing these amps: http://www.kingsleyamplifiers.com/amps/deluxe30/

 5. It is a beautiful bass but you need to be careful with some of the words you have used in the first post - is this bass 'all original'?
 6.
Love my Jazz, (2003 MIM) perfect set up, easy play, however, using swing bass 66 stainless at present, good strings, but die quickly, not to much problem there, as I like the "Dead sound" but open to suggestions (clean ones please!) also considering fitting a set of wizzard pups after reading post on here.
I put a set of TI flats on mine and it came alive
 7. Takes me back to the 70's when, unless you were 'different', people asked 'are you a Precision or Jazz bass player'....I was always a P Bass man but got a Jazz a few years back which is the first one that I have taken to (one of those CS models with the Brazilian 'boards). Now I can say (after all these years) 'I'm both'.

 16. Ola and welcome aboard
 17. My pair of Berg 112 cabs are loud enough to cope unstressed against our insanely loud drummer - and one cab does just fine for the (very occassional) rehearsals - and very easy to transport as well. I would always go the 2 x 112 route since I got my first pair of EA 112 cabs
 18. Reckon anyone looking at these would be more tempted to go the Suhr, Lull, Anderson route
