How to survive as a musician without a 9-5 normal job?

i used to get really angry and pissed of when i had to go back into work after a gig or a weekend recording, i still dnt like going back to work but the work lets me by things that help the band so i try to not let it bum me out so much. its not easy tho, i am happy to take time of or have 3hrs sleep to play a show tho! band does really come first to me. andy -

moved a few things around, new cog custom still need to find space for few things but this will work for the time being andy -
finally got a chance to try out my new cog effects custom pedal. through my tiny practice amp it still sounds epic!! will only get alot better when it gets run through the orange and the 810 :-) basically its a chorus, octave, reverb and the tarkin bass fuzz! the fuzz is stupidly good and quiet stupidly huge as i have the mesa on all the time! so its a big sound! think the reverb will be on alot of the time aswell! the chorus is by far the nicest ive tried im chuffed to bits with how it sounds and it looks wicked aswell! heres a link to the cog page where you can read all about it, http://www.cogeffects.co.uk/red-five.php toms a awesome guy to deal with and his work speaks for itself! andy

the eq pedal looks well od cuts everything? including volume? wandering if thats an easy way to kill the sound? epec sound tho for one guy to make! andy

played "the garage" in swansea last night! for a new promo companies opening night, bloody awesome show, ok the place wasnt full but the other bands on the night all hung around we got people to the front of the stage even if we had to go get em! sold a few ep's and impressed a few guys from other companies who came down well worth the 6 hours in a focus with our gear to get there and back! andy

awesome band! andy

Gig promoters and the "pound per head" policy
0175westwood29 replied to topheteatwo's topic in General Discussion
thats ridiculous! some venues really do take the mick, they have made alot more than 20 quid while you were playing! its the same as when they cancel live music evening because of turn out but will only give you a tuesday night! i dnt think id have excepted the money, thing is venues (some not all) will happily pay a covers bands 250 if not more for an evening but a original band even if they cram the venue will struggle to as you did cover petrol. also how is a band touring the uk for the first time trying to get noticed meant to bring people atleast you seemed to have sound support bands andy -
with my hand for a bit of scale its a beast! andy
-
my pedal is finally on its way to me! finally got paid so was able to pay the final payment! cant wait to get it in on to my board http://www.cogeffects.co.uk/red-five.php andy

tc ditto x2 and behringer US600

hi guys this is back up due to a sale falling through, looking for 100 quid for the ditto its the new one with the etc footswtich and effects, comes with its box and the leads to attach to you pc are still in there packets and the pedal is like new. also have my us600 behringer for sale, looking for 20 plus a few quid for postage, its basically a copy of the boss ps-6 i think, again in good nick both pedals are kept in a pedal board so are well taken care of. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:155835] you can see them both in the pic above. andy

i had a thread on this a while back, love the sound of my amp and cab mic'd just sounds fat and the distortion and fuzz sounds are much better. hence on our recording thats all we used, can rem what mic it was but looked like a large kickdrum mic if i rem, however live a little bit of the di mixed in is ok still want the main meat to come from the mic tho. never had a problem with feedback or bleed as i do try and keep my stage volume very controlled, when running into the pa. so my vote goes for mic, however if its a tiny venue you wnt need to di or anything so its no problem, i ask now if they mind micing up my cab normally if my cab is staying put they dnt have a problem, and as its an 810 it normally is. might sound a bit diva esq but i like the sound i get from a mic, but i dnt make a scene if they have to di i always make sure they take it from my head tho! not from a di before the amp, but as i said before if they can mic it then ill have that please! andy

would love to have the ad in place of my terror, for me the orange just works better than the svt. andy

i love my mag 810! ok i went down the mag route as i couldnt afford the abm and there were no secondhand pegs around, very happy with it its got a nice mid heavy sound as i thought it would and as many say it does have a bit of a dark sound but not muddy and can def give you the highs you want. also the fact the new it cost me 430 quid! and is pretty hefty construction i look after it but i dnt have to treat its my baby lol andy
It would most probably be cheaper to replace the EQ unit with a better quality one (depending on how much the EQ unit costs, of course). Preamp idea sounds like a good call, but if you like the sound you have/had, then it's not gonna be the same. It would give you a wider range of tones, but how often are you gonna change the amp settings at a gig?
yeh i like the sound of the orange pre, the eq is only there to help out with bumping the low mids up a bit and cutting of the lows that with distortion and fuzz for me anyway seem to get very subby and can really wash alot of the sound of the drums. will try it at the next practice and see who knows but ill probs start looking for something on the evil bay, anyone who any rack eq brands that arent crazy money andy

my behringer 2 channel eq died on friday night, i used it for a bit of tone shaping to help the orange a bit, but mainly to roll of the superlows to help clean things up and stop the speaker working to hard etc. basically the last four lights of the eq light up allthe buttons etc work and appear to work but there sliders as i said appear to have died all bar the last 4, if i turn it of and on they come back but switch of after a few minutes of playing and sound goes away. its a behringer fbq 1502 unit, got it secondhand on ebay, worth getting it looked at to be repaired? or just go grab a new eq? andy

played a mixed night we put on at a local pub venue, was a mixed night started with a bit of female lead rock, then on to some seriously heavy punk! ("Arizona law" they are wicked check them out ) then us! we've been really enjoying playing mixed genre nights as even tho i love metal but its nice to have a different sound throughout the eve, the gig went well good crowd reaction and got a lot of good contacts and looks like a few gigs atleast! next gig is in swansea in a few weeks which i cant wait for. only downside from last night was that my rack eq decided to die, but was only 35 quid of ebay so not really a biggy. andy

cheers dude! andy
