1. my squier vm string is awesome however have upgraded the input to a better quality one and when he was doing it noticed the pots although they work fine are pretty cheap Chinese pots, so is there any bonuses to changing the pots? could i maybe put in a larger or smaller value tone pot for a bigger sweep? also have thought that at the same time i may put in a switch to put everything on 10 straight to the output as flicking a switch is easier than changing turning three knobs on my jazz. andy
2. for me its strange seeing how other people play the songs, i wrote a few songs in a punk band and the new bassist plays them totally different so the songs sounded a bit weird at first andy
3. oh yes! recorded lovely kickdrum mic in no di sounded beasty, getting mixed at the minute but sounded really nice. andy
4. beasty mate!
5.
i've actually got a set of Ernie ball custom gauge 5 string 135, 105, 85, 70, 50 from when i owned my 5 string corvette, do u reckon i could get away with using them? 135 will feel mahooosive and i'm not 100% sure it will fit in the bass nut! i don't really want to file it down, i may have to invest in another bass if it doesnt fit :-P
it seems big but you do get used to it very quick, is the nut on your bass removeable? you could always get on made up for the drop b tuning andy
6. ive done drop c with 105, i now use the top 4 strings from a 5 string set as on my 4 string bass i tune it to a standard and its fine, 130 on the a string maybe look at something like that? its a bit of a set up from 105. andy
7. ive had the markbass lm2 and swr headlite, both awesome can grab the lm2's for silly money these days andy
8. not the same cab but ive gone from a ported orange 410 to my mag 810, like chris said noticeable mid bump with the 810 so you will need to adjust your eq to suit. local practice space has the 410s they are nice cabs i never used the horn as i dnt like them tbh, is their a sealed 410 out there? ive only ever seen ported. andy
9. well just back from practice, very impressed, nice loud and punchy! was trying out a few new pedals in my chain, and sounded lovely, well worth the money spent on it. totally forgot to take some pics but will be in the studio on tues so will probs post a few photos and one of the tracks. andy
10. boss tu-3 or 2 bomb proof pedals! very accurate and bright led display, however the guitarist in my band just got a mooer tuner which is a polytune copy but is fast and very accurate as well. andy
11. its got undo redo, dnt think you can go back to the first loop tho, got mine today plan on having a play next week as im busy all weekend. andy
12. will post a link to some of our recordings next week with the mesa being a big sound in them andy
13.
I bought loads of plugs and cables , made then all up , just as it showed on the net , spent ages doing it , and nothing worked . Spent ages of time , when really I dont have much . I reckon I sunk well over 100 pounds on cables I couldn't get to work . One of my mates had the same thing - pedalboard dead , which cable ? I now have limited time , what with work , and I cant afford to mess about with stuff that may or may not work . Ive switched too Hosa cables , and i couldn't be happier .
i think for this reason id always check the cables with a multimeter. also is it just me or are the diago plugs basically george l's? andy
14.
I think I'll keep my '69er at 27Kg thanks
was interested in a barefaced but monies and the waiting time prevented me pulling the trigger, first practice tomoz then some recording the following monday eve andy
15. just grabbed one of the ditto x2 should be with me tomorrow hopefully, it was cheaper than the boss rc-3 and worth the little extra over the ditto i felt due to being able to store and export loops aswell as import mp3's to play over. will make jamming at home much more fun andy
16. my guess is this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wahFVhkTb-k beast of a pedal, also love that band awesome! andy
17.
Not for me 810s.... The Aguilar one apperantly weighs 184lb thats over 13 stone....
the mags manageable at 67kg andy
18. can also add my views in, have to wait till thursday to try the 810 out in anger with the guys but never sounded muddy to my ears in the shop, there was a darker more bass heavy sound which i liked. why is it you want to change to the abm? they go very cheap secondhand on ebay maybe grab one and do a a/b? andy
19. just as a bit of advice would you guys put a boost pedal in the loop? so it avoids the pre amp? unless you wanted to add a bit more gain to add more grit andy
20.
You should get yourself an Ashdown James Lomenzo Hyperdrive. It's got a frequency scroller and you can choose where in the mix you want the distortion to sit while still retaining the lows. Other OD's have the same tool but the Lomezo is probably the most inexpensive option (SH). The bands I've seen/heard with the best overdriven bass sounds tend to embrace the fact that they're going to lose bottom end and really pile on the grit and work with the guitars and keys to create a great BAND sound. Personally, 'a touch of grit' does nothing. You may as well just use a heavy playing style. For 'grit' to work, you need a cranked valve amp. Using pedals, you gotta spade the drive on and work to find a mix with the rest of the band that works. In my opinion. Truckstop
agree with this you do seem to need more than what you think, what is it you dnt like about the blackstar?
21. first gig with it will be on the 8th of march, but got recording and a practice before that so ill report back with how it fairs. andy
22. so i bit the bullet and got a mag 810t, but in the newer tolex finish, didnt fancy a carpet covered one, even tho they were much cheaper. played it for about 15mins in the shop with a ad200b very loud and very fat! nice and bass heavy so will sound very nice, with my terror and board of effects. andy
23.
Now that looks very interesting. Does the frequency splitter work well for bass?
yeh works very well, you can dial in some nice high gain fizz or have a fat dirty bottom end with not alot of high distortion and get a nice stoner rock sound, was really surprised by the range of the tone control tho, makes it super usable. andy
24. got one of these today! awesome little dirt box, independent high and low gain controls so you can have the lows distort more than he highs etc, a nice tone control with a massive sweep, and a pretty hefty level boost if you want it about 12 o clock is unison. http://lateralsound.com/pedals/root/ so much dirt is on my board now! but this was worth it and it made by a guy in the uk. also Jon from lateral is sending me a few more of his pedals on loan to try out with my bass rig and make a few videos with. andy
