1. hi guys this is back up due to a sale falling through, looking for 100 quid for the ditto its the new one with the etc footswtich and effects, comes with its box and the leads to attach to you pc are still in there packets and the pedal is like new. also have my us600 behringer for sale, looking for 20 plus a few quid for postage, its basically a copy of the boss ps-6 i think, again in good nick both pedals are kept in a pedal board so are well taken care of. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:155835] you can see them both in the pic above. andy
2. i had a thread on this a while back, love the sound of my amp and cab mic'd just sounds fat and the distortion and fuzz sounds are much better. hence on our recording thats all we used, can rem what mic it was but looked like a large kickdrum mic if i rem, however live a little bit of the di mixed in is ok still want the main meat to come from the mic tho. never had a problem with feedback or bleed as i do try and keep my stage volume very controlled, when running into the pa. so my vote goes for mic, however if its a tiny venue you wnt need to di or anything so its no problem, i ask now if they mind micing up my cab normally if my cab is staying put they dnt have a problem, and as its an 810 it normally is. might sound a bit diva esq but i like the sound i get from a mic, but i dnt make a scene if they have to di i always make sure they take it from my head tho! not from a di before the amp, but as i said before if they can mic it then ill have that please! andy
3. would love to have the ad in place of my terror, for me the orange just works better than the svt. andy
4. i love my mag 810! ok i went down the mag route as i couldnt afford the abm and there were no secondhand pegs around, very happy with it its got a nice mid heavy sound as i thought it would and as many say it does have a bit of a dark sound but not muddy and can def give you the highs you want. also the fact the new it cost me 430 quid! and is pretty hefty construction i look after it but i dnt have to treat its my baby lol andy
5.
It would most probably be cheaper to replace the EQ unit with a better quality one (depending on how much the EQ unit costs, of course). Preamp idea sounds like a good call, but if you like the sound you have/had, then it's not gonna be the same. It would give you a wider range of tones, but how often are you gonna change the amp settings at a gig?
yeh i like the sound of the orange pre, the eq is only there to help out with bumping the low mids up a bit and cutting of the lows that with distortion and fuzz for me anyway seem to get very subby and can really wash alot of the sound of the drums. will try it at the next practice and see who knows but ill probs start looking for something on the evil bay, anyone who any rack eq brands that arent crazy money andy
6. my behringer 2 channel eq died on friday night, i used it for a bit of tone shaping to help the orange a bit, but mainly to roll of the superlows to help clean things up and stop the speaker working to hard etc. basically the last four lights of the eq light up allthe buttons etc work and appear to work but there sliders as i said appear to have died all bar the last 4, if i turn it of and on they come back but switch of after a few minutes of playing and sound goes away. its a behringer fbq 1502 unit, got it secondhand on ebay, worth getting it looked at to be repaired? or just go grab a new eq? andy
7. played a mixed night we put on at a local pub venue, was a mixed night started with a bit of female lead rock, then on to some seriously heavy punk! ("Arizona law" they are wicked check them out ) then us! we've been really enjoying playing mixed genre nights as even tho i love metal but its nice to have a different sound throughout the eve, the gig went well good crowd reaction and got a lot of good contacts and looks like a few gigs atleast! next gig is in swansea in a few weeks which i cant wait for. only downside from last night was that my rack eq decided to die, but was only 35 quid of ebay so not really a biggy. andy
8. cheers dude! andy
9. never need mine above 2! andy
10. I like having a lowish action, like a bit of fret noise when i dig in if i play softly then theres nothing really noise wise. Gives an attack to the note that works well with my band Andy
11. i always try and find my fellow bassists at gigs, and have a chat. especially if im lending them my gear! have no trouble lending my gear or letting people use it i just make sure that i set up the amp and tell them to not touch the eq or volume. i just keep in mind the guys who are respectful and who arent so, in fact had one bassist asked the venues sound guy if he could borrow my amp, i had to let him as with out they would have had to pull the gig and i didnt want that to happen. andy
12. yeh the eq isnt the most versatile so something like an eq pedal in the loop or in front defiantly helps, i use a rack eq. the solution here for me would be to roll of the low end and this is where the eq comes into it, i tend to boost my low mids also if i rem correctly the mids on the eq are flat when on full so but cutting mids below 12 o clock you are cutting them alot. but the best thing is to put everything at 12 and go from there, grabbing a second 115 wnt hurt at all but those cabs are plenty loud enough on there own. andy
13. not really the right place for this thread buddy, but i would think that your just gonna have to work on eq so that you can get her louder, doubt changing mic will make much of a difference tho. andy
14. you have to be carefull but thats what i do, if you look in the booklet somewhere it will say the size of the psa in the tuner. i have a boss tu-3 which i think can power upto 7 boss pedals, not really gonna supply that many of it but its a nice space saver. andy
15. im getting serious gas for a hagstrom hb-8, and a wah! andy
16.
Hey fellow Plymouthian with an 8x10, cool . Yeah they're good band mates at the start of the night
Haha the sounds worth it
17.
I must admit to dreading the first outing, but at home is sounds bloody awesome
if like me you have helpful band mates then there really no problem, moving an 810 with two of you is easy. andy
18.
Empty venue = lots of nice reflective walls for the sound to bounce around so a lot of what you are hearing comes from the reflections. Full venue = lots of people to absorb the sound so many of the reflections are gone. Low frequencies are direction less Our ears fine it difficult to detect the pitch of a note at low frequencies and the sound can quickly becomes a mess down there. That is why most sound engineers use high pass filters on most of the instruments apart from kick drum and bass guitar. My guess is that you are compensating by adding more bass but it’s the mid’s that you need.
had this happen lots of times, just needed to bump the mids and everything gets much clearer for me, however this is where i like my rack eq can just boost what i want. andy
19. ill try to always at least use my head, but for pretty all my current bands gigs ive used my own, well bar the last gig where we (bassists) decided to use one rig that the first band used. i can change how things sound by using my board or how i play ( i now switch alot between finger an pick) so if i have to i dnt mind using someone elses rig also if the band is on before me gives me a chance to hear the rig, i also dnt like it when sound guys put the di before my amp, recently ive asked for the cab to be mic'd and they hav just done that with no di. however my fav thing is when the backline has no pa support and i can let the otb 1000 and 810 ashdown go a bit louder! andy
20.
The strings might be a little floppy, but nothing that couldn't be fixed by seeking out a thicker guage set of strings! Might be difficult to find the right ones in 30" scale though, but there are also places that do custom sets relatively cheaply so nothing's impossible.
cool now just need to find one to try andy
21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zlLJYn23p8 you can also now checkout this video for a little tease of each track they are also now on spotify and loads of other online places. andy
22. So does anyone know how it would handle being tuned a whole step down?
23.
I trust you saw the Jürg Maag YT demo? That's quite interesting. I want one!!
where he has half and half? yeh it very cool. andy
24. so a few months ago i grabbed myself a squier vm 5 and love it! i got it to deal with the tuning change so if i want i can play our whole set on one bass, it was all over our new ep and is a perfect match to my modulus. however been thinking about grabbing something thats a bit out there! and from looking around i was thinking of going and grabbing a hagstrom hb8 but its short scale which ill be honest i have never played a short scale bass, and the videos online for it are a bit poor (or am i not googling enough?) but my band dnt play in standard tuning so im wondering how a shortscale bass would handle a d standard tuning (dgcf) anyone with any views or if you have one would like to know your views andy
25. for me it totally depends on the gig, if you in a loud rockband a 112 might not do it might be safer grabbing a 212. onlky have good things to say about the terror bass, my 1000 is silly loud the 500w version would be plenty and i get round the eq being a bit minimal by putting a rack eq in my chain. andy
