1. How heavy is it? Used to a relatively heavy bass In my VM squier five string? Andy
2. you could look at the lateral sounds "primer" love mine, no connection with the company at all there stuffs just really good. andy
3.
Just curious, but is there a reason you prefer the B206sm to the D6? Edit: I presume they sound better in real life. But I listened to some youtube videos of demos of the B206sm and the D6, and I must admit that I haven't been overwhelmed by what I heard. But youtube videos often give an unrealistic idea of what instruments sound like for all sorts of reasons. Are you comparing it to the Ibanez SR506? If you buy online please make sure you know your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations. If you buy it and don't like it, you can send it back.
Yeh it's going up against the sr506, tbh looks are putting it ahead of the Ibby ATM Andy
4. hi all, im considering taking the jump into the world of the six string, been looking at basses in my price range and this seems to be a fairly well put together bass with decent hardware and what seems like a good starting point, and seems a from videos that ive seen a bit better to my ears than the similarly priced ibanez, also looks muck nicer! so does anyone have one of these or has played one as ill be getting this online so wnt be playing before i buy it. ill be tuning it down a whole step so interested to hear what gauge strings it comes with, as on my 5er i have a 135 low c. andy
5. i just find the fact that his sig bass or whatever it is, the one you can buy is totally different! just make them the way you play them and didnt really get the wasted use of the samsamp that only goes to his ears!? but the 10000 bass that he plays for a solo! shut up! thats not on unless that money goes to charity! andy
6.
Well... this is what you do in the studio or on the stage. How else would you put a microphone to record a bass cab? I would like to hear some ambient too, but close mic is the sound you hear in the studio recordings.
this is true but for a cab comparison maybe a more of how a player using it as backline may hear it or a crowd member andy
7.
Interesting point on fuzz as well as I use fuzz in pretty much everything it's nearly an always on pedal. Only other consideration I have is I use a sub as well and I'm often on the 4 band's in a night kinda scenario so don't want to cause a venue a pain in the arse especially if it's my first night there.
im lucky in a way that im normally later into those kinda night but all four bands cant have the same bass sound? again this is kinda another situation where we've been led to except the easiest way, it takes seconds to put the mic infront of the cab and as i said above they should have a bit of eq to do on the di anyway so not much dif doing that on a mic(i know its not that easy in reality) but if you ask before hand and explain the reasons why ive personally never had trouble. if you get a valve amp you want that power section heard andy
8.
No one would ever consider asking a guitarist to DI instead of mic'ing their amp so why do bassist get such short shrift?
i generally think its because its the done thing, i always ask if the venue is big enough to be mic'd rather than di, with fuzz it just sounds better. andy
9. just thought ill pop a quick update on here, not been such a problem in recent months as normally now my 810 is the backline for the venue, however have played one show where i asked politely if he'd mind micing me instead of using the di (my board now has three fuzz pedals on it) and he was happy to do it, i believe it was a sm57 and it sounded pretty sweet i must say. all the new ep for my band was recorded purely of a mic in front of my 810 (an akg drum mic i believe) but when i play a bigger venue i will def ask for them to put a mic in front, to my ears it just sounds better, and also now that i have gone wireless i can hear the dif out front through foh.
10. id have walked up and gone sorry mate thats my bass and amp, if you dnt ask you dnt get to use! have been on gigs where peeps have just assumed they can use my full rig and sadly it was a youngster, when i said no they looked at me like i was being a idiot, dnt see why i should let them everything they need to play! if its been agreed before or they are sound and ask i will lend my amp cab etc but if you turn up with out a bass im sorry your not playing! if something goes wrong and i can help mid gig thats a bit dif! ive helped a guy out when his bass died and i lent him my bass and quickly stuck a capo on it, and he got me a beer and said a very heart felt thanks after there set! andy
11. not last night, but on friday my band played as main support to 101% Pantera! awesome gig all round from the good crowd and awesome ppl to play a show with! also the band that opened the show, Vipera are an awesome band people need to go check them out! andy
12. am i the only one that thinks its unfair to expect an out of town band to bring alot of ppl to a gig unless they are a well known or are beginning to get there name out there and be well known? if we have out of town bands playing with us i make it a point to promote the crap out of it! and try to get bodies in! not ask those bands to bring 10 ppl each, i would hope they would promote it themselves however its down to the local bands to draw in the crowd (as promoters very rarely these days actually promote) weve said no to gigs like this because we just wouldnt sell the tickets atm, andy
13. I've done a thread on something similar to this in the past, I wnt let a sound man take a di before my amp, as with my pedals it doesn't work, the signal needs to go thru my head and cab to sound like it should, if no way to mic it the I use the di from my head, but it's not from speaking with engineers at gigs a big deal to eq for a mic over di, and with fuzz sounds a mic is better IMO. Andy
14. i now use Daddario stainless steels but have used dunlop stainless steel sets for ages! made the switch due to being able to get the da's cheaper. andy
15. got to redo the video as just didnt sound right. but on another note the helio was so heavy and subby it was making my drummer eyes go funny at our practice on sunday! andy
16. You might be able to get the guts of a bass wag of the internet and just do a switch Andy
17. unless your running the master volume up high which from knowing how loud the 500w version of this head was i doubt you are, i would think that you will be just fine. andy
18. or try and get it working how the bass wah does? andy
19.
Hey, sellisnba If you can trek to Plymouth, I'd recommend getting in contact with a guy named Ian Randell. He does AWESOME setups. He's mostly a guitar teacher by day (or night) but I'd recommend checking him out.
hes an awesome dude! andy
20. I was never able to find one I liked, until Tom from cog suggested an clone of the old boss chorus the old brown pedal. So you could try and look at on of those? But also the Tc corona with tone print could also be worth a try
21. the swollen pickle is a sick fuzz, if anything gives you more bottom end! however i will say maybe check out cog effects, the tarkin bass fuzz is sick! andy
22. thinking that it could give me a proper deep bass heavy sound and i have a spare bass aswell, so im happy to play that at home and get a feeling for them, however are flats likely be happy on my modulus? was also considering throwing a bit of money out on a squier vm p bass for them to go on. andy
23. Awesome basses, if you manage to get one that has the Duncan designed pickups aswell even better! And please don't do the headstock logo! Nothing wrong with having squier on the headstock ! Andy
24. toying with grabbing a sr506 at the minute! andy
25. so first practice with the pro steels yesterday, they've got a bit of bite to them very nice strings they really work well with the jazz. def looking at grabbing some flats i think as a trial for some darker sounds andy
