1. i use mine as an always on effect, makes for a fatter dirt sound and also adds a bit of clarity aswell, but also makes my clean sound awesome! mines is a clone of the old boss bass chorus made in by cog effects andy
2. i would agree with the eq comment as even a low power amp through a 410 should be able to make some impression, from experience ashdown stuff flat is a bit dark so maybe as was said look to the mids and highs also if your guitarists are using alot of low end in there sound then that wnt help, also not to tell you to suck eggs or anything but a sound that works on it own will almost never work in a band context. andy
3. not got a pic of it but you can see a close up of it in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRps_Bg10I8 can get pic if need early next week? andy
4. im def in now as im free on the 12th i should be gd to bring all of my gear, so they'll be my 810 ashdown, orange and my board, so some lateral effects and cog effects stuff will be there for people to try, oh and my heliotropic aswell andy
5. basically if my pedals aid the song i will use them, norm for me is to have 1 of my dirt pedals and my chorus on all the time but i have 4 dirt options that are all different, so can use them to change the feel of a song at least on the bass, andy
6.
Right everyone, thets do this. Ive here'd that woodinblack has got himself a dingwall fiver, and for no other than my own selfish reasons i would love to have a play with it, i also know grahamT would als well. So thets get this going, Need names and do able dates, we can go from there. I will kick it off, 1. Jimrs2k. Next. 2. 0175westwood29
7.
Well if its any use, i could get the skittle ally at the retreat pub, its got a big car park and a fair sized skittle ally. Its in ashcott on the A39, very easy to find and 12 mins from j23 M5. Jim.
thats probs doable for me ashcott and id love to try out some cabs! andy
8. Bump trades considered andy
9. i would maybe think about grabbing a ag500, yes there not exactly similar sounding but tbh the db751 is a beast! and alot of good amps will struggle to keep up with it.
10. Can't speak highly enough of my ashdown mag 810, awesome cab well built and sounds good
11. hi guys moving this on as i am updating my compression/limiting a bit so this will be unused. Sold pending andy
12. well i took the leap! and ordered one! should be coming sometime next month. andy
13. There's a really good video of nolly get good talking about his Dingwall that's got the f#, sounds brutal. Lowest I go is on my 4er ATM where it's tuned to A but looking into 6's ATM so a 175 low string could be in my future
14. seems exeter is a gd place
15. Doesn't that amp have two power amps? So it can run at 8 ohms 375w a side? So just run a cab in to each side is what I would do. Andy
16. How heavy is it? Used to a relatively heavy bass In my VM squier five string? Andy
17. you could look at the lateral sounds "primer" love mine, no connection with the company at all there stuffs just really good. andy
18.
Just curious, but is there a reason you prefer the B206sm to the D6? Edit: I presume they sound better in real life. But I listened to some youtube videos of demos of the B206sm and the D6, and I must admit that I haven't been overwhelmed by what I heard. But youtube videos often give an unrealistic idea of what instruments sound like for all sorts of reasons. Are you comparing it to the Ibanez SR506? If you buy online please make sure you know your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations. If you buy it and don't like it, you can send it back.
Yeh it's going up against the sr506, tbh looks are putting it ahead of the Ibby ATM Andy
19. hi all, im considering taking the jump into the world of the six string, been looking at basses in my price range and this seems to be a fairly well put together bass with decent hardware and what seems like a good starting point, and seems a from videos that ive seen a bit better to my ears than the similarly priced ibanez, also looks muck nicer! so does anyone have one of these or has played one as ill be getting this online so wnt be playing before i buy it. ill be tuning it down a whole step so interested to hear what gauge strings it comes with, as on my 5er i have a 135 low c. andy
20. i just find the fact that his sig bass or whatever it is, the one you can buy is totally different! just make them the way you play them and didnt really get the wasted use of the samsamp that only goes to his ears!? but the 10000 bass that he plays for a solo! shut up! thats not on unless that money goes to charity! andy
21.
Well... this is what you do in the studio or on the stage. How else would you put a microphone to record a bass cab? I would like to hear some ambient too, but close mic is the sound you hear in the studio recordings.
this is true but for a cab comparison maybe a more of how a player using it as backline may hear it or a crowd member andy
22.
Interesting point on fuzz as well as I use fuzz in pretty much everything it's nearly an always on pedal. Only other consideration I have is I use a sub as well and I'm often on the 4 band's in a night kinda scenario so don't want to cause a venue a pain in the arse especially if it's my first night there.
im lucky in a way that im normally later into those kinda night but all four bands cant have the same bass sound? again this is kinda another situation where we've been led to except the easiest way, it takes seconds to put the mic infront of the cab and as i said above they should have a bit of eq to do on the di anyway so not much dif doing that on a mic(i know its not that easy in reality) but if you ask before hand and explain the reasons why ive personally never had trouble. if you get a valve amp you want that power section heard andy
23.
No one would ever consider asking a guitarist to DI instead of mic'ing their amp so why do bassist get such short shrift?
i generally think its because its the done thing, i always ask if the venue is big enough to be mic'd rather than di, with fuzz it just sounds better. andy
24. just thought ill pop a quick update on here, not been such a problem in recent months as normally now my 810 is the backline for the venue, however have played one show where i asked politely if he'd mind micing me instead of using the di (my board now has three fuzz pedals on it) and he was happy to do it, i believe it was a sm57 and it sounded pretty sweet i must say. all the new ep for my band was recorded purely of a mic in front of my 810 (an akg drum mic i believe) but when i play a bigger venue i will def ask for them to put a mic in front, to my ears it just sounds better, and also now that i have gone wireless i can hear the dif out front through foh.
