1. epic new art work on the pickle! and like the look of the mxr univibe! andy
 2.
Was Tayste's PX offer still a bit too rich?
yeh sadly, ah ok i see so not bad speakers just to replace they be pricey i see, am i right in thinking the swr 610 is a weird ohms? be interested in trying the swr cabs, also the swr cab like some of the others can run stereo (2x410's)
 3.
The thing with 8x10s is that they can be picked up for very little. Downside is they usually weigh a ton & the speaker configuration is not the best for dispersion (though no worse than a 4x10 box). I wouldn't consider getting an 8x10 a move up (maybe sideways ). If you were looking at other configurations, then a 2x10 + 4x10 isn't a good choice as you have 2 drivers dealing with twice as much as the other 4 & they're 2 different sounding cabs (& the 4x10 has the same narrow dispersion). If you want a killer rig, I'd look at a couple of decent 2x12s (or 2x10s). But then you're not gonna get that for as cheap as a s/h 8x10.
not totally looking for the 810 as a need for more volume thats an advantage. andy
 4.
The Barefaced '69er would be my choice if I was looking for an 810. There's a couple of Mesa Boogie Powerhouse 1000's (410+115) in the FS section. They would sound fantastic and take on an Ampeg fridge with ease.
cant afford the price or waiting time of the 69er, the mesa's do look nice? would be open to a 610 but although i loved the 610hlf id quite like to switch it up. are there lots of problems with the swr speakers andy
 5.
Unless you've got a roadie, I'd be making my choice on size and weight! You might also consider a 6X10, which is a decent compromise. Hauling an 8X10 gets old really quick. I've only used two - the classic Ampeg 810 and a Carvin R810TL - both excellent.
got good band mates and my van so not a problem moving them about. andy
 6.
or...given that you love the sound of your orange obc410, what about an orange 810!?
gonna have to go secondhand so of the list as price wise its gonna be to much. andy
 7. sounds awesome http://basschat.co.uk/topic/227377-new-mxr-pre-amp/
 8. hi guys as the title says im looking to go up to an 810, wondering on any views you people might have on these cabs im thinking of. the classic 810e/av ampeg ashdown abm 810 ashdown mag 810t swr megolith peavey 810 laney nexus 810 i get the ampeg is mid heavy and have used this cab before but wondering if theres something more suited to me, needs to be able push the deep lows i need, but still have nice highs. so hit me with your views andy
 9. signed its stupid how the council even has to take this seriously! andy
 10. i know right
 11. i dnt really need but i want! andy
 12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx7dOcFDWtI sounds really nice! andy
 13.
nothing to do with the sound of a band dude i've already explained why mic'ing a bass cab on a small stage is a bad idea
how small is small tho? andy
 14. basically a slightly overdrive dude so any low gain drive should do it. andy
 15.
thanks for that. I also read somewhere that the orange originally sourced theirr tubes from China and admitted that they could be better. No idea if the newer ones are also chinese/better.
they sound good, dnt know what tubes mine has they will sound good i wouldnt worry to to much. andy
 16.
Is it just me or does the vocalist of Nervosa sound like she could actually be that Letty (I think) from fast and furious?
this is very true!
 17.
Haven't the newer ones had their valve issues sorted? I think I read an interview with someone from Orange who said they had realised they were crappy so sourced better ones.
didnt know there was any valve issues? they had the hot di thing but thats been sorted for a while. andy
 18. isn't this just a lazy way to improve your technique, i mean flamenco guys and taping can do everything he just did no? andy
 19. The 1000 is scary loud never goes close to 10 o clock, i use mine with a obc 410 so a 600w i think cabinet and its fine. You'll have more headroom with the 1000 but depends if you need that as the 500 is loud! Andy
 20.
I'm still puzzled by how you can have "wrong reasons" for discovering a band?! Some people do initially go on image. I blame MTV
ie see attractive female click link to watch the video and end up loving the music! as has happened with nervosa andy
 21.
depends if they're doing it to make your band sound better. you can have the best bass tone in the world, but if your band sound crappy in getting it then noone will want to listen to you.
sadly i think a lot do it as its just the way they do it. in another thread ive said about my use of fuzz and them not wanting to spend time putting a mic infront of my cab. granted if you sound bad there is work to do before you go live.
 22. actually got a mate to just listen last night before i told him who they are! he had the same reaction to finding out they all had fit women in them! andy
 23. so wish i could afford this! andy
 24.
This old bit of misinformation once again. No sound engineer would ever even remotely consider DI'ing a guitar amp, or heavens forbid the guitar, so why is it considered acceptable to subject bass players to this? IME guitarist with their multitude of mis-matched pedals connected by all sorts of weird cables and all-valve amps are far more likely to suffer from an equipment failure at some point in the signal chain, but they are always put through the PA with a mic on the speaker. ------------- Interestingly in my days as a guitarist I was using a Hughes & Kettner Tube 50 amp which has a Red Box speaker simulator DI built in. In studio tests I found that you had to use a fairly detailed microphone in a good sounding room before there was a noticeable difference between the DI and mic'd signal. So I decided that I would prefer to use the DI output live since it improved separation and allowed me to get closer to the amp for controlled feedback with no mic or stand in the way. I met a lot of resistance from PA engineers simply on the basis that it wasn't how it was normally done.
i do agree, im trying to sort something atm, gonna star bring my own mic to gigs so the sound man has nothing to do my end just a bit of mixing his to combine his di with the mic on the cab. chrismanbass what stops the guitar mics from picking up the same things as a mic in front of the bass? i realise they are very different beasts but still? andy
