yeh it depends entirely upon the sound guy but running one extra channel takes exactly 2 seconds and if you've even given him a suggestion on how to mix it moving on from that would be to turn up with a lead and a stand so he has nothing to do this is what really frustrates me about other sound engineers and gives the rest of us who actually give a sh*t (yes there are a few of us about) a bad name
yep that what im gonna do i think just say plug this in, and if i get the 609 i can hang over the front of my cab. indeed my plan is to do this but cause as little trouble for them as possible andy
yup what he said really you've just got to be careful that all your pedals are balanced pre gig. to the OP running a mic and di signal into a little mixer would work and you would send the sound guy a complete signal of how you want it to sound however if it was me engineering the gig i would ask for them separately. the reason for this is that i might decide that theres a part of your sound the mix needs more of at a certain point for example if things are getting a bit muddy then i'd try using a bit of your clean(ish) signal to make you cut through a bit more and vice versa however if i'm being sent a pre mixed signal then i'm limited as to what i can do its more of a set it and leave it deal which is fine as its less work but means i can't get the best possible mix to make the band sound good my best option would be to purchase yourself a nice mic something like a 609 would be great and say to the house sound guy that you'd like to be mic'ed because it helps for your tone to carry across better and if he sets it up to about a 70/30 split on his desk (i think you mentioned that as about your sound earlier in the tread) then work from their this way it appears like you've done your homework you've made his life as easy a possible and he then has the facility to tweak as the room and the mix requires
this is pretty much what i think im going to do, my worry is a sound guy saying theres no time and being a bit teasy at having to run a second cable or just ignoring the mic and just plugging in something but not using it. but its worth a try so im gonna grab a 609 in the next month or so, got some good quality xlr's so can just give them the cable and say heres my mic and plug there di in. andy
So to mildly hijack this thread a bit - IED are looking to do our first 'proper' gigs - we both have mostly virtual kit and like it that way! If i were to turn up with my 'rig' as is: a bunch of pedals (including a sansamp copy) and a DI box, would this make FOH engineers happy or sad?
honestly they wnt mind, its a straight di to them andy

recently got a 5 to open up some ideas in my metal band totally dif music i realise but my ideas behind it are based on wanting more notes and also a deeper sound on others. ie i tune lower than most on my 4 A-D-G-C and on the 5 i have it tuned for our drop c songs but C-D-G-C-F still getting used to the feel and not going for the wrong string but i like the feel of the five its just getting used to it. andy

the ampeg 610hlf is an very nice cab, not the lightest however but thats not a concern it really is easy to move around. i used mine with a ampeg pro 6, markbass lm2 and aguilar db750. all sounded awesome yes the cab does colour, maybe a slight mid boost but has got nice lowest and if you need it a nice tweeter(i never used mine) never had any problems at all and i had to run it loud with the db750 several times no trouble was looking at getting a second but then band broke up. also secondhand these go for a steal! andy

love the colour! andy
You're right.... missed that. For valve amps you have to match the cab to the amp or you will risk damaging the biasing and/or valves. You need an 8 ohm cab on the end of the speaker lead if the amp is set to 8 ohm output. My last valve amp had 1 8 ohm outputs and 2 4 ohm outputs. I guess which way you hook up the cabs is dependent on how the outputs are configured. Which amp? Do you have the user manual?
what chris said! andy
-
I do feel that if say you destroy to amps in one night there must be some form of user error, ie pushing the pre amp to hard etc

might be worth checking the tubes are all seated properly any of the pots on the front crackle when you turn them? andy
Ugh! I have just read about yours and spent some time reading a 14 page thread on the VM P5 on TB. I am struggling to think of a reason not to buy one and get it re-finished in Nitro black and relic it.
honestly for the same look fender you are talking 1300 notes! snagged this for under 200! cant speak highly enough of it! and i couldnt care less what people think about the name on the headstock. if you can get to try one honestly the you'll be mighty impressed, im not sure what pu's the p has but i def think the duncan designed pickups are part of what makes this bass so worth the money. andy

i think i rem reading somewhere it helps the string to resonate only with it self into the body, as oppose to mixing with the other strings tbh i would only use one if it was on the bass, im happy with the badass bridge i have on my mody. andy

if buying in a shop, id always take the bass that i played, as long as its like new then it doesnt really concern me that its been on display for a few months or longer. andy
As long as it's not the MXR Noise Clamp! It's such a bad gate that I replaced it with a Darkglass B3K
that is a bad gate! andy
The fitting must play a very important role. If I'm going to spend that much I want to find some where good
even tho its done in boots or specsavers its a acs rep who actually does it so the quality will be the same, if you go with acs that is. andy -
