1.
Probably another stupid question from me! Should I use the effects loop or is it okay to stick the effects straight into the input jack (as I normally would)? I shall be using Octaver, Chorus, Fuzz & Overdrive - not all at the same time though!
i stuck all my effects in front of the amp, tbh only really delays and verbs i might stick in the loop now. however you can always try there no wrong or right depends if you want some of it to avoid the preamp, but my guess is you'll want the fuzz and drive to be in front of the pre, and the octave you like most im guessing have that first in your effects so tbh probs just keep it inline and go into the input. andy
2.
I agree, reverb on bass has a fairly specific and 'difficult-to-get-right' use in a generic band setting. Worth spending as little as possible first (or at least buying second hand) in order to see if its what you want. For a nice and solid, toneful set of reverbs, the Marshall Reflector is excellent, and can be found and decent prices. I prefer slightly weirder reverbs, so my one of choice at the moment is a Mr Black Eterna, which is essentially a shimmer reverb. Si
me to been gasing for a eventide space for years!
3.
I've ordered a Behringer FBQ2015. Should be in my hands on tuesday, not a bad price either. Thanks everyone.
did you mean 1502? i keep coming up with idea of what i could do with the second channel andy
4.
Those Orange Terror things baffle me, they are just a box with knobs sticking out. absolute no protection for the controls or anything, a full flight case must be a requirmenent and I bet you have to be carefull putting it in that.
i actually think there pretty hard wearing the bag you get is padded and ive never had a prob, however i am going to get a flightcase soon as my band is try ing to go on tour so it'll be easier to through in the back of the van. andy
5. could i maybe put a strange suggestion out there, why not use a good quality capo? to bring the bass up a tone? easy and quick and no second bass needed just tune the bass to d and pop a capo on the right fret andy
6. i actually thought it would be cool to get a the bass vi, but my tuning is alot lower and was unsure how the it would hold up. i would atleast get it, you could love it, i would atleast give it a try. andy
7.
I use the little blue xmas trees and have been for a couple of years. I'm totally used to them now and can't play / go to gigs without them. Will the ACS 15 improve the sound I hear over my current protection ?
massively! after about 5 mins i forget the acs plugs are in the sound is that clear nothing muddy like some ear plugs andy
8. really aria! 3999! thats kinda the extreme of hes dead lets bump up the price! i love cliff but not that much! andy
9. ive got the acs ear protection aswell, really comfy i use the 15's in a loud metal band so im sure you be fine. i think the filters are pretty cheap so you could always grab a set of the 17's and if you think it might be louder stick those in, for me its the fact they they dnt mess up the sound! normal ear plugs for me anyway get a muffled sound, and also dnt go in my ears the same way each time these do so i just get a quieter version of what actually happening andy
10.
I think Aria already do a Cliff Burton type bass but it is not a signature bass or am I wrong? or a Burton Ricky would be kinda cool
i think the aria is a sig, but the rick sig with the guitar pickup thing would be sweet!!!! only thing is hes known for the aria. i dnt really get the sig fenders, as they are all pretty much stock, but based around a certain year, and with some money added! i know there all nice but i do struggle to see the point on occasion
11. Bump come before i change my mind!
12. will see what i can find when i get paid, thanks andy
13. the dunlops seem to be a perfect gauge for this tuning nice bit of give but not at all floppy on the low A, did however need to increase the size of the string hole in the bridge on the low string. all in all very happy didnt even need to adjust anything on the bass, must admit i do love the modulus for that! andy
14. i normally run post so the sound man gets my sound to work with andy
15. glad to help
16. the mooer shimverbs not a bad little reverb for the money, should be able to get you close to the tone in the vid andy
17. just been checking out a few of the sennheiser e609 and e602 on there site and a few youtube vids, both sounding really nice just got a question about there sensitivity the 609 being more aimed at guitar only goes down to 40hz while the the 602 being more of a typical bass and kick mic goes down to 20hz both go up to the same high ranges near enough, so what im wondering is as i tune to A standard ( A-D-G-C) am i better of getting 602? suppose i could just use the di to get the lows and mix in the 609 for the high? andy
18.
Mmm me too Should get on very well then. Enjoy!!
sweet! looks like ill hopefully be getting a 5er in the new year might even play around and grab a dtuner because A isnt low enough!
19. i use rotosound 105-45 for d standard and drop c at the min, they are roundwound never played flats, i know my strings are a tad slacker than some would like but they hold up really well. i say atm as im going to a standard tuning from next month andy
20.
+1. This is exactly what I have found with the ones I have used.
same here, valves amps like being pushed but ss due to the nature i suppose dnt, but then thats why you see the massive 1000w ss amps like my terror seriously never gonna get that thing past 9 o clock on the main volume. also ill take those unwanted heads of your hands for free so your not worrying ;-) andy
21.
Just realised something. The Hartke has 2 jack sockets. 1 for passive basses & 1 for active basses. Would I therefore put the pre amp out feed in via the active jack? As to the Ampeg going doolally, I'd just plug the bass into the Hartke. I'd also use a DI pre any pre amp or amplifier(Assumed this is standare practice when using BIG bass rigs.).
honestly bud i dnt know, its only a -10db pad so doubt it will make a difference other than obviously one being quieter. on the di thing it varies i normally go post eq, and am sorting out a way of micing myself (but thats another thread) andy
22.
That sounds cool! Just to double check, I assume that an instrument cable will do to connect the two heads?
yeh as its just guitar signal going thru it, for me tho id do the split thing as if something happened to the pf you'd lose all sound, hell if you could even by a y cable and it no more pedals required andy
23. just a little update, grabbed my self a behringer rack eq today, its has a built in high pass so nothing below 25hz will go into the amp, cost 51 quid from evilbay. well worth a look if say you dnt have the money for a thumpinator. also the boss limiter works really well am staying well away from the enhance knob tho, but levels all the spikes out plus will give a nice little boost after all my pedals once my nice shiney pedal from tom at cog effects comes next year! andy
24. just grabbed a behringer dual channel 15w eq for 51 quid on ebay, ive had a comp from them before and there rack gear is pretty sturdy and well made. also has a high pass filter built in so u can cut of any signal below 25hz so its also saved me from getting a sfx thumpinator, so bargain id say andy
