1. Used to love my db750 and 610hlf combo such a nice tone, when i got it i a/b'd it with a svt and it killed it!
2. in descussions with limelight about making a custom 75 j bass heavy relic, early ish next year. :-) andy
3. this is the annoying thing when you'll spend ages getting it to sound near as dam it to his sound and then no one will notice! but pretty sure ive scene guys getting close using a big muff and the digitech bass synth wah andy
4. where was last years again? andy
5.
I did indeed! Did you get the pedal photo as well?
all etched out i did! well excited! andy
6. tom sent me a teaser this morning! andy
7. sadly an alleva coppolo is a tad out of my price range, i know in a ideal world i would have it wear naturally but there really is something i love about the really beaten up look. i am doing the natural ageing with my mody. andy i mean damn thats sexy!
8. i would grab a 8 ohm cab, i really doubt you'll notice a massive drop in volume also the hydrive cabs really are nice but honestly go and try a few cabs but the standard is normally a 410 8 ohm should be able to grab a hartke, ampeg or ashdown for that budget easily or maybe a gk all gd cabs just with a slightly different flavour. andy
9. hi guys im starting to do some research in to my next bass, and ive decided i wanna go down the route of a old relic styled guitar but something a bit more savage than the fender roadworn series, so it looks proper beat up. i realise this will bring out the haters, ie you should age it naturally (which i am doing with my mody) but its a look that i think looks awesome and would fit my band aswell! looking for a 4 string, ideally a fender style bass preferably active humbucker or jazz. any ideas? andy
10.
the db750 kills an svt in my opinion, what actually happened to the oranges?

andy
11.
Personally, no - but any other bass cabs are ten a penny.
still wouldnt wait six months. as has been said bf get of lightly if not free, where a brand like fender or ampeg would get bashed! and yeh the threads where people ask for a cab and get advised to go barefaced are really boring. andy
12. i can kinda see where he's coming from 6 months is to long to be waiting for a cab that costs as much as a barefaced? the waiting time and price put me of getting a dubster or big baby a year or so ago as i needed a cab. even if alex is a nice guy (he is i have had a quick chat about what would be best for me when i considered going bf) the waiting time seems to be a big problem thats not totally be addressed you wouldnt wait 6 months for any other bass cab would you? andy
13. i love the swollen pickle! big fat fuzz with loads of bottom! although i do have a tarkin fuzz on the way soon! andy
14.
Yes, they are deliberately close together as I need to activate both with one stomp. The fuzz into the EP-controlled LPF gives some really lovely synthy sweeps and wobbles. I also use the LPF solo, but it's pretty easy to turn on by itself, I just need to make sure I have narrow shoes on :-D
cool i need alot of space as i stomp like a drunken monkey!
15. bought a darkglass harmonic booster, really easy and kept me up to date with postage etc great guy to deal with! andy
16.
For the first time ever, I have more than one pedal, so I thought I'd make a mini board:
do you use the mastotron and xero at the same time? as they look very close? andy
17.
412s can get very loud, but it's not just a volume thing. The Marshall sound is dense and can cover everything from around 100Hz right up to 4kHz, ie all over the bass guitar. You need to find the tonal gaps in there (if there are any) and boost those, or (better) get them to cut a hole somewhere for your bass. Often guitarists boost the bass/low-mids too much to get that thick chunky sound, great on its own but wipes out the bass in the mix, and it sounds better overall if they get a tone that's a little thin on it's own. When I do sound, Marshall-type driven guitar tone gives me the biggest difficulties with the mix 9 times out of 10. Especially if there are two of them, and especially especially if the guitarist comes with ego attached, which with Marshalls they usually seem to :/ Also, those Marshall overdrives give a very compressed tone. You may want to compress the bass to match, or you'll find the note decays too fast in comparison.
thats solid advice, guitarists dnt normally like to eq, if they can t hear themselves they turn up, but my band had a practice session where we spent time on the guitar sounds so we have a treble heavy gritty guitar a mid heavy rounded guitar and my bass which kinda glues those two sounds together. took a bit of time to sort it but sounds a lot better. also and i found this out in the studio, a sound you think sounds awesome alone wont sound anywhere near as good in a band mix. also is there anyway of taking your amp each time? then you have a constant bass sound as ebs to ampeg although both awesome wnt sound the same . andy
18. my fav fuzz is still the swollen pickle, at atleast half the price, does sound nice tho have to admit andy
19. Boss limiter on route to me
20.
Logic suggests to use a limiter last in the chain if you have other effects that could generate there own volume or low-frequency spikes. Basically, stick your limiter after anything that could cause a volume or low-frequency spike, whether it be your bass playing or a filter effect or whatever.
that makes sense looks like it will be first into the lmb-3 and then into a thumpinator then onto the orange after a crap load of effects of course
21. ive also tried adding a bit of reverb to my sound that worked nicely as it filled out the sound, maybe get something like an ls-2 and add the dirt over your clean? also i agree with adrenochrome a small volume boost might fill the sound out as the rhythm guitar is now not adding any volume so your part wont be as loud as if you were with the guitar. andy
22. yeh i was thinking this year is a bit to much of a push that seems like a gd date andy
23.
A combination of Thumpinator and limiter should work well. There was a Thumpinator for sale on here recently.
yeh sadly just missed out on this, have managed to score a boss limiter is it best to through this up front in the chain? andy
24. i get you dnt wanna break away from the punky feel to much but maybe adding a few cheeky runs or adding something to the riff when the guitar breaks away. from experience you can never fill the gap of the rhythm guitar with a bass, so theres no magic effect but mabye try an octave or something that will give you a 5th up but have it really subtle in the mix so the bass just gets a bit thicker but doesnt try to be a guitar andy
