1.
Have you tried one?
Admittedly i haven't, but i've never been enthralled with any jazz i've ever tried (mexican jazzes, VM squier jazzes, reggie hamilton jazzes, the jazz bass 24), and i just can't see how a USA jazz can be such a significant improvement on any of them so as to warrant such a high price. To me a passive jazz bass is a passive jazz bass, and honestly, after my brief stint with my reggie, if i wanted one, i'd buy a squier. Fair enough if you like the sound or the feel of the things, but i just don't think that a USA jazz is 4 times better than a squier vintage mod.
2. looks like an antoniotsai or something, and yeah those pickups are a bit wide!!
3.
i've started a on a neck through version already
Awesome, a neck thru version would look really nice, i'd want to see it up close, but that looks really well built to me. Well, it would be if you make your living through carpentry! It certainly looks like something i'd be interested in if the pickup was moved slightly south, it was fretted and if it had an active EQ. I wish i could make stuff like that, i'd have far too many basses though!
4. Have you tried turning the volume knob on your preamp down? Diming the volume can do that sometimes.
5. looks like a female dalek
6. Urgh, i was GASing over this the first time it was on here, i'm GASing even more now with the prospect of possibly being able to afford it!
7. Ok so we got carried away, but i'd rather i signed it and it turned out not be true than not have signed it and have it happen. I'm sure i read about it somewhere though... oh well. And as for that legislation mr foxen posted, jesus.... 135DB would probably (literally) deafen you, 140DB would be ridiculous!
8.
welcome to the madness that is Vintage world
I don't just mean vintage ones, i mean brand new ones, to me a brand new USA jazz is just another passive jazz bass like the rest.... And i always wondered what NOS meant, now i know.
9. i like that one just to the right of your hand there ^^^ And i like it when the nut it actually set into the fretboard wood, rather than the fretboard stopping there too, it looks kinda cheap when it just stops IMO.
10. I think if i spent half my time playing rather than looking ta gear then i'd be a much better bassist, but then i find it hard to get motivated when i don't have a band to contribute to. I think a lot of my GAS comes from being a tone freak, i'm the same on guitar really, but i say if you can afford it, why not buy the best you can? I'm also attracted to pretty basses more than anything else
11. Well hey, that's pretty damn good for just a hobby! Build a few more on the side and sell them, i'm sure some of the guys on here would like a bit of that
12. If the bongo i'm after gets sold, expect to hear from me
13. Very nice! I'd love a ray in that finish but with the bridge mutes Very nice collection there
14. Very nice, you made that yourself? We seem to be attracting some good luthiers recently!
15. Post the number in this thread on the EBMM forum, one of the mods will get back to you fairly sharpish with it's DOB, colour and where it was originally shipped to.
16. I honestly don't see what the fuss is about with all these fenders. To me a squier vintage modified jazz is a good bass, and paying £800 for a VERY similar passive bass with a simple JJ configuration just doesn't make sense to me when you could have something far far better.
17. Haha that turned out pretty good looking! i didn't think ply would be very strong at all... How have you attached your pedals to it? Velcro?
18.
The editor of BGM came up from Devon and supported the SE Bass Bash in September. He had his own session and talked about the magazine and answered a number of questions about the magazine, some quite pointed. At the end of the day it's a commercial undertaking. If you don't like it OP then I challenge you to start a rival magazine and make it pay. BTW I have no connection with BGM, it's editorial staff or its publishers.
Your cables have gotten good reviews in there though
19. Very nice, i love musicman fretboards, they always use gorgeous woods. The fretboard on my SUB bass has a really really nice grain on it, but the one on the similar priced fender i had had hardly any grain at all. Top notch stuff
20. Mmm, very funky. Can't help noticing he's playing a stingray 5 either!
21.
He just sent me this: hi mate sorry i just removed the fender p bass from its listing,,see some people askin so many stupuid questions and accusing me of fraudulent goods,,,i mean i dont take that crap from anyone, thats people trying to run your goods down and maybe get them for half nothing,,i know what i have in my possesion and im proud of it.thanks for your interest all the same Hmm.. right... he doesn't TAKE crap, just sells and talks it!
If it was real then he wouldn't have anything to worry about. Sounds like a grade A w***er to me.
22. i do prefer the look of a single pickup standard ray, but that control plate doesn't look right to me without a pickguard... Is it mahogany bodied?
23. They're not really my thing those BFR's (the HH ones are nicer IMO), but damn if i'm not impressed! As long as you like it, that's all that matters, right? How does it sound?
24. This man likes PRS!
25. I suppose this sort of thing is highly subjective though, i mean certain basses aren't for everyone. P-basses really aren't my thing, but someone could find the tone they've always been looking for in a MIM precision. It's hard to say good or bad about a bit of kit, all you can really do is give people an idea of the sound and reccommend they try it. Unless of course it falls to bits or something.
