Indeed, VERY clever design work. Scaled down headstock, mahogany tone block to add sustain and weight under the pickups. They've done some intense R&D and I think they pretty much know what building basses is all about now.
Yeah, i can't see musicman releasing something that dives like a beast, these designs might not be for everyone, but i really like them (go ahead and call me a fanboy!) I think the axis will look better when it's got some hardware etc on it though

So i post on the EBMM forums a lot, and for anyone not following there's some stunning new stuff coming out soon! Two entirely new bass models and a stealth stingray by the looks of it! Not bad for a company like musicman eh? First is called the "big al", basically a bass version of the albert lee guitar. Second is the 25th anniversary bass, modeled after the axis guitar, not sure what it's called though. Both will be available in H, HH, HS HSS or SSS and will have the bongo's 4 band EQ plus pickup selector buttons and active passive switches (and i thought the bongo was versatile!!!!) Personally i think they're both really nice looking! Also ernie's son just released a picture of a stealth stingray and said nothing more, so i'm taking it as a hint that it will be put into production soon, i hope Here are the pics! (first 3 are of the 25th anniversary, so obviously the next 5 are the big al and the last is the stealth ray) Enjoy

4 strings sound better than 5 string basses. Discuss.
budget bassist replied to EBS_freak's topic in General Discussion
When i played the same notes on the E and B strings on my 5 string, it always sounded muddier on the B, but that's probably because my 5 string was crap! -
I'm selling this for my ex-guitarist, so i don't know much about it, but we used it in a metal band and it really did sound awesome! Basically it has a clean channel and a drive channel (it's SS) and two 12" speakers. I'm not sure of the power handling, but we used it for a lot of small gigs and it was fine. I think he wants about £250 for it, any takers? Pickup only, i'm based in nottingham. This is what it looks like, i don't have any photos of the actual amp at the moment though.

budget bassist replied to Pkomor's topic in Build Diaries
B definitely, i hate singlecuts, C is a bit strange... B is cool though, reminds me of a peavey cirrus or something -

I don't mind people buying what they think looks nice... but i'm sure there's people out there that buy relics because they want to be seen with a vintage bass and want people to think it's vintage... I just really can't stand them. I won't stand in the way of people buying them, but honestly, for the life of me, i can't even begin to understand the attraction to vintage/relic'd basses. Give me a nice shiny new one any time.

Thanks for the advice, might suggest the idea that i'm thinking of buying from the states.... Considering the bass has been there for a good while, it wouldn't be remarkably hard to strike a deal, particularly with reverb's recent reputation in lowering prices significantly. I'm also considering a sterling, i tried one a while ago and i really liked the neck. I know they're not as versatile as a bongo, but they're more common and i could probably pick one up cheaper off evilbay. Not to mention i think they're a bit prettier... I know i want a musicman though

The SUB is a different sound to the bongo, while the bongo gets close, it's not quite the same, and i'd always want something like that in my arsenal, if only for sentimental reasons. And i've only tried the one bongo (played it twice now), though i'd like to try a few more, but they're fairly uncommon. I know there's one in the bass cellar, in desert gold no less (the colour, that given the choice, i'd have over any other), but the less said about that the better i think. I don't think i'd be able to get them down to a good price anyway, even if i did want to go in there. If anyone knows of anywhere else that might have one, or if anybody has one i could try, i'd be very grateful
-
hmm, cheers for your advice all, reckon i could get them down to £850 on it? Worth a try i suppose! I'm really trying not to have to sell my SUB bass!

For sale here is my fender Reggie hamilton Jazz. Right now it's just a feeler i guess because it depends on the sale of my tobias etc, basically i want a bongo. Anyway, this bass is made in mexico with USA parts, so USA bridge, pickups, tuners etc, so it's a really nice bass, and very unusual in that it has a precision pickup and active EQ. It's in fairly good condition due to the finish being pretty tough and it's not really been bashed about, though there is the odd mark here and there, and IMO, the 3TS finish is really pretty. It plays really well too, the neck finish is somewhere between satin and gloss and it's really really slim and plays incredibally. It also has an active/passive switch so that you can still get that natural woody sound coming through. It also has a badass II bridge retrofitted onto it, but i still have the original bridge + screws. It also comes stock with a hipshot detuner, which is really handy. Also included is a plastic thumbrest + screws and a cheapy fender gigbag, but i will package it well if i end up posting. Specs are as follows: Solid alder body Maple neck Rosewood board 3TS poly finish American series precision pickup American noiseless jazz bridge pickup 3 band 18V active EQ w/ active/passive switch BadassII bridge (black) chrome hardware Fender stamped hipshot detuner Tort pickguard (i may have a spare black one for it too) Fender american vintage style bridge THIS BASS IS NOW SOLD pictures:
IIRC Bongo's pricing 2nd hand is just as dire as Rays/Sterlings. May be worth selling the Suba and putting a want ad on here for a Bongo? I would never buy (another) new MM.
I've decided (due to the advice of some of the EBMM forumites) that my SUB isn't going anywhere (sorry raving camel), i really would miss that sucker. If i get the prices i want for my tobias and my jazz, i could afford a used bongo from the states and, with a bit of saving, afford the customs too.
Just out of interest, what would sort of price would you want for the Tobias?
PM'd

This bass is now for sale For sale is a 2003 korean tobias toby pro 5B custom in fairly good condition, but with the odd dent/scuff. One of the tuners doesn't match because the old one broke, so i replaced it with a gotoh, but it's hard to tell the difference. Specs are as follows: 5 strings Dual soapbar pickups 2 band active EQ neck thru body with 5 piece maple and wenge neck Bubinga wings Rosewood board 24 frets I won't lie, it's not a light bass, but it's not amazingly heavy compared to some i've held, probably about 9lbs. It does have a few marks etc but nothing affecting playability etc and the neck is pretty much perfect and it plays really well in my opinion. As for the sound, it's fairly average with a fair bit of treble. It's not a bad bass and i've used it live and at practice a few times, very dependable. Also it will come with some sort of gig bag, probably a padded westifield one. NOW SOLD!
