1. Damn, i knew it was someone like that My point is still valid though.
2.
I agree totally with your points -- but I used to hang around in Audi forums, and car fans moan about dealerships in exactly the same way we do about music shops. One 21-year-old son of a millionaire told me how a salesman shouted at him across the floor: "Get away from the car, you can't afford it." He strolled over, showed the bloke his bank statement then replied: "I was going to buy a car today but I'm not now." Cheers Mark
According to the man himself when interviewed on topgear (i use the term interview fairly loosely), Lionel Ritchie once went into a merc dealership to buy 9 Mercs for family and friends when he had just made a good bit of dosh, and the salesman pretty much told him to get out. He then got on the phone to Ritchie's bank manager, and i'm sure you can imagine where that went.... I try not to judge a book by it's cover, and that's so important in retail, particularly the fairly unstable world of musical instrument retail. You'd think they would be doing all they could to stop people buying online, and let's face it, it shouldn't be THAT hard, should it? Online, you can't try basses out, you can't have a cup of tea and a bass related chat to a shop assistant. I'm sure if places like the bass cellar improved their customer service, their income would dramatically increase. Let's face it, there's thousands of pounds on here waiting to be spent or that could have been spent in there owned by people on this forum, but their PR on here has been so bad, they aren't going to see much, if an of that, particularly after what our mr 57 basses experienced there. You'd think they would treat someone like that fairly well, because (not to make any assumptions on your finances) he's obviously not low on cash and knows what he's talking about. I for one would much rather spend my hard earned money in a shop that treats me well, than an online store.
3. You could get it re-wound? Do fender sell the reissue pickups seperate? They do tend to whore out a lot of their other parts/pickups.
4. Wow... that's less than just one of my ashdown MAG cabs!
5. There's a guitar shop round the corner from my mum's new house, guitar base in west bridgford, really nice bunch of guys there, they may not be the most knowledgable of people but they're pretty friendly and don't mind me having the occasional bash on a guitar or bass i probably won't buy, though i'd like to buy something from there in the future. Same with music inn and guitar and drum centre in nottingham, both pretty good places with good service. Music room, however, is a totally different kettle of fish. I'd never buy anything from them, total bunch of twats that don't have a clue what they're talking about, but of course, they're ALWAYS right *rolls eyes*
6. Aren't these plywood?
7. You'd think certain shop assistants would buck their ideas up considering the current financial climate. Some of these shops (mainly the bass cellar) really deserve to go out of business. Though i'm sure if you reported this rude employee to the shop manager they'd have something to say about the matter.
8.
I'll concede that it's by far the best test of how these basses compare when played in a living room by Ed Friedland through Ed Friedland's rig.
I think you're missing the point a bit.... He never said they were perfect for everyone and anyone. He's just pointing out that squier have really upped their game recently, which i can vouch for, having tried a good few of their VMJs.
9. Those new classic vibes are brilliant basses, though i think some people prefer a different name on the headstock Though squier don't make anything like my fender. P/J combination and active EQ. The classic series appear to be miles ahead of the standard mexican series fenders, though i have yet to try a classic vibe squier, they seem to be pretty good. A classic vibe jazz is on my list for sure
10.
A bass collection looks 'boring' but a Musicman doesn't! I'm assuming your not talking aesthetic outline of the bass. There is/was a huge range of finishes on the Bass Collection basses with fancy wood tops etc. they also did there own take on the Jazz bass which was very nice indeed. I owned a sunburst Bass Collection (I believe cd_david from the forum may have also been an owner of that bass) many years ago and it was as described; a nice, light, easily playable instrument, not offensive in any way but not the most tonal character in the world but I wouldn't be embarrassed to play one again.
No i wasn't just talking about the outline I mean pickguard, controls, pickups etc. And I've always thought P/J combinations look kinda cheap on that style of body. They look ok a jazz/precision, but i'd rather have soapbars or something on that sort of body style. I admit though, i haven't seen any of the more fancy ones though, just ones like that.
11. Cool, i think i may have seen a stingray in that colour as well, may have been on the EBMM forum... can't remember I'd love a sabre one day though... or a cutlass I or II. Awesome basses
12. Niiiice, i bet that rig moves some air!!! Also i think i've said it before, and i'll say it again, nice sabre, i didn't know brown was a standard colour though? or do my eyes decieve me? I like the rickenblacker too, very nice, would look very swish with a 3 ply black pickguard. Is that a darkstar and a bartolini I see in there?

14. Fair play if you like them, i just find them a bit boring looking.
15. Am i the only one who doesn't see the draw to bass collection basses? They just look like cheap P/J starter basses to me. Even if they are good basses, they're just so boring looking.
16.
Just found these pics and thought I’d restart the thread The guitarist in my old band (3 bands ago!!) lent this up on his amp after soundcheck and right on cue the thing pummelled to the ground resulting in this: Botch job emergency repairs with sh*t glue done this: And baz ended up looking like this: Anyone else got pics of their broken gear? (or is it just me that breaks things? )
My epi LP fell over the other day.... I'm feeling quite lucky now after seeing that!
17. Very nice, but i was expecting something a little different
18. Fair enough! what are the rough dimensions? Should be pretty good if it's nice and dead sounding in there. And i suppose with a bigger live room you can be a lot more versatile with it. I'd love to come and have a look when it's finished but east anglia is a bit of a trek from nottingham
19. That looks.... interesting... It looks a bit hashed together
20. Just out of interest, what made you change your mind? Glad to see it's taking shape nicely
21.
I don't know - I've got a '76 Jazz bass sitting right in front of me, and the blocks on it look like the ones in the auction. I've also got a '66 Jazz with blocks, and I can't see a huge amount of variation with it either. I think you need to take into account the awful defretting job that's been done on the neck in the auction, it's really torn the fretboard up. I guess if I did have a question, it would be about the block marker at the 3rd fret, but that may just be the photo which is distorting the view.
Maybe it's the lack of frets/binding throwing me off, i'm by no means an expert!
22. looks fake to me, those block inlays look way too wide
23.
If we're talking NTU then it kind of does. Theres a cheap and safe NCP right over the road on Talbot Street. Drivers to the Bass Bash should note that its a short-ish walk from the Forest Park and Ride (FREE) to the Grosvenor (The P & R is a good navigation point anyway). Theres also a tram stop there.
Ah i thought he meants notts trent. The grosvenor is good anyways. It also has a decently sized car park.
Any Leftys planning on going??? I'm gassing for a new Bass at the moment and really want to try a few out...
Metaltime is going again, he brought his lefty corvette 6 last time remember? I seem to remember commenting on the fact that we needed a higher ratio of rightys
24. You won't hear anything! That or the sound will start sounding distorted. It takes a good couple of years for a battery to wear out though, most people leave them a good year or so between battery changes.
25. Glad you got the bass in the end, and thanks for the apology. a lot of people on here didn't deserve what you said, though i can understand where your frustration came from. Have a merry christmas anyway and enjoy the bass
