1. Wow! Your wallet has to be feeling pretty sorry for itself right now!
2. Ooh nice, that darkstar definitely looks better in there than that dinky little thing. Also i've been wondering, how do darkstars sound? Juan alderete has dual darkstars in his jazz bass, but i'm not sure if he used it in the studio. It looks awesome though either way.
3. haha, i was expecting this to be someone already on here, otherwise they wouldn't be playing along with TBBC so much haha thanks for a laugh
4. brilliant thread! Welcome annmarie, i see you've met TBBC, the forum scoundrel You may do well to never take him seriously! As for the jazz/warwick issue, i'd be pretty stumped too, have you played either of them? I love jazz bass necks, but the warwick supposedly has a real growl to it, though i wouldn't know, not having played either of those particular basses.
5. If you like it go have a look, get some decent pics and put them up here, someone else might be interested (not me )
6. I did spot that one but i'm not too interested in thumbs, nice top though..
7.
Although I'm a big fan of ramps, I've voted no. The most recent custom bass I had made has a ramp, but it was part of the design of the bass to give a near uniform surface from the end of the fingerboard to the bridge pickup: It was done because I like the feeling of playing over the fingerboard on fretless basses but because of this I was missing out on tones by not moving my right-hand position. This bass solves all those problems for me. Looking at my other fretless bass that might now benefit from a similar treatment I'm thinking that it wouldn't be easy - especially on those that have a radiused top. I also play with a pick, but I use a different bas for that.
That bass is gorgeous!
8. Not for me, i like my bridge pickup as a thumb rest, i can get all the sounds i want from that!
9. Congrats reuel! And if you don't post photos when it gets to your end, there'll be hell to pay!! You know what they say, no photos, no bass
10. Looking good man, can't wait to see it come together!
11. Haha that was rather interesting that!
12. Funny that, that's exactly where i'd want a thumb rest on one of them
13. Didn't you sell the pickups for this? or did some american guy just offer to buy them?
14. A lot of people just buy bits of foam and wedge it under the strings, seems to work well. You can also buy actual mute assembles to fit your bass too, i remember someone fitting one to a musicman bongo. EDIT: here you go
15. I saved a tenner on a £400 dell PC for my birthday this year Not too bad i guess, but i did expect a lot of w***er shop owners to just increase the net price. They make more money and they keep their nice .99p prices too... Why don't we all vote monster raving loony for a change? They might just end the recession and 99p coin would certainly be handy!
16.
Good catch! That's easily as good as the £95 BIN on a mid-nineties ATK I fluked last year.
wow, nice one! Aren't they the jap ones too?
17. I just noticed the front contour totally sprayed black too. I'm pretty sure it's plywood with a paint job like that.
18. Well that ebay one is certainly very pretty whatever the case!
19. Ooh this is cool man, i'm looking forward to seeing it all come together!
20. awesome collection there
21.
The cheek! I'm lefty and proud damn you! Ooh difficult to pinpoint as I take crap financial records but not long if I'm honest- maybe 5 years? A lot of people may be horified the amount of bass I've gone through in that time, but it all comes through living off sandwiches and spending all my dosh on bass! I think I'm an addict
Nah, i'm the same!
22. Something in my head just clicked with that ibanez headstock and some westone headstocks.... sweet basses. Incidentally i want a westone now
23. are they ACTUALLY polos?
