Nottingham bass bash - THIS SATURDAY 28th
budget bassist replied to budget bassist's topic in Events
Nice well done that man. I will get you a pint.
Haha thanks It's not too expensive (maybe not a good idea to discuss exact figures) but it shouldn't be a hard figure to meet. any extra can go to either basschat or charity. The uni was a good idea, but the pub is more practical (nice big car park, i don't think the uni has one does it?), and the pub has a bar -
can you tell me whether this is likely to be during the day, or an evening fixture?
Probably late afternoon And sarah, i'm just about to ring the grosvenor up and book a date, i'll let you know when i've done that. EDIT: right, booked the grosvenor for 12-5 saturday the 28th of feb, that way any that wanted to go to the yorkshire bash and the notts bash have a free weekend between. -

Get Rid of that Grungy Rubbish!!
budget bassist replied to phil_the_bassist's topic in Repairs and Technical
yeah, if it's really thick, use a credit card to scrape the majority of the finger cheese off, then lighter fuel to get rid of the rest and then give it some lemon oil, good as new Don't leave it too long though, one of my friends has a gibson explorer that should have been treated to this about ten years ago, the fretboard is pretty much rotting under the finger cheese, seriously, the wood has started coming away around the frets. Shame, it's such a nice guitar too. -
Yeah, i've heard reaper is pretty good. Some people have said it's as good as cubase and cheap as chips.
As someone who's converted from PC to Mac recently, that sentence above doesn't make sense. I've not used an easier computer. GarageBand is a breeze to use, real plug-and-play kind of thing (eg 1-click mixdowns that export your finished track to iTunes) and you can always get Logic if you want to be more advanced. I was recording in minutes, rather than the hours faffing about with my old PC. Plus with all the other software you get pre-loaded, I've designed a website, done a couple of DVDs and a video showreel.
I don't think that's what he was saying at all. What he meant was, as good as macs may be, they're expensive and hence not particularly commonplace. What that means is, it will be harder for you to share files with your friends etc such as sequencing files that may need editing or something and other such things. There are also a lot of programs that are incompatible with macs which may be handy. Personally, unless everyone around you has one, i don't think there's much point.

Nottingham bass bash - THIS SATURDAY 28th

Fair enough, it's fine with me, i'm in the city centre most days for college you see. -
You want to spend a good £500 on a good laptop i'd think. Min specs: dual core processor, quad core if you can get one. Intel if possible, not AMD. 2.5-3.0GHZ 2-4GB of RAM (this is easily upgradable though) I'd say at least 250GB hard drive, raw music files can take up a lot of space. Also DVD rewriter and all that gubbins, but it usually comes standard these days. Don't forget, the more you spend, the more future-proof it will be. This is why i prefer desktop PCs, when parts become obsolete, a lot of the other stuff in them is still salvagable, particularly things like monitors, sound cards, hard drives etc. Essentially on a desktop PC the only things that become obsolete particularly fast are things like motherboards and CPUs whereas on a laptop, you'll have to chuck the whole thing.

Awesome, thanks guys, i'll get on the phone to them at some point soon to see what day/weekends they have free, unless there's anywhere better that people can think of. And i'd rather like a bash on your thumb simon! -
1. There's no such thing as a GSR300, there's a GSR200 and an SR300 though. the SR300's are meant to be good. 2. I'd go for the squier classic vibe, they've been making some top notch stuff recently. 3. go play them both
I didnt even know there was one a few months ago but then I havent been here that long. I'll probably make it as long as it isnt a weekday. I live just north of nottingham so it isnt a hardship. Where is the Grosvenor? Is this the Old Queens Moat House or somewhere else I know by another name? Google isnt being very helpful. What goes on? Are there stands or is it all just a big jam and GAS-by-proxy session? I have a CIJ 62 RI jazz
You pretty much hit the nail on the head there! And i'm thinking weekend would best suit everyone. Do you know where NCN clarendon is? It's right near there, next to the big island next to the forest fields/mapperly -
