Isn't there an article on them in this month's BGM? EDIT: not too sure, but i've seen the name somewhere very recently

Pardon me for asking, but i was just wondering how that's much more portable than a normal bass? I'm assuming that it's a 34" scale so it's pretty much the same length as a normal bass and with the bits that stick out it's almost as wide, just a bit lighter... And those aria ones on the same website, in what way are they portable? They're the same size as a normal bass (if not bigger) it's just going to be a bit lighter. I'm not criticising you at all, i've just never understood what makes these basses so portable. I understand the steinberger, but not these... I have no problems carrying any of my basses around with me.
Finally, if you or any of your band mates have been stupid enough to remove the earth wire from their amps (some people do it to reduce hum) give them a smack in the face for being an idiot and reconnect it.
good idea

Cleaning the manky crap from basses
budget bassist replied to arabassist's topic in General Discussion
I used lighter fluid to clean up the manky fingerboard of the old Hagstrom: Left: before, right: after
My old guitarist's gibson explorer is about twice as bad as that and about half the age! Also if you really want to get the dirt out of the pores of the wood, give it a good old scrub with some lemon oil and a bit of scotchbrite. took me about half an hour to do and the frets needed polishing after but it looked good. It didn't last long though so i probably wont bother again. -
Hmmm Mine used to go flat every three months too, and I though that was reasonable (not having any other active basses to compare against ) These days I use rechargeables, and stick a full one in every gig. There's no reason why all preamps should have the same current drain though. I guess cheap basses (mines the yamaha 375) have cheap preamps with higher drain?.
The peavey millenium series are famous for draining batteries in a couple of months. My tobias is a cheap bass though and i've had the same battery in for ages.

If you lived near nottingham you'd be welcome to try my fender reggie jazz. Unfortunately i've never given a precision or jazz a proper whirl to be able to say anything of use i'm afraid.

There was a guy on the EBMM forum that had a yamaha SBV bass that he had refinished in yellow sparkle with black and white checkers up the middle and i thought it looked pretty damn nice. In fact after some searching, here it is.

Just FYI, never listen to anyone from halfords, they don't know what they're doing.
Mine go flat and start distorting every couple of months but I do play them quite a bit.
Wow, what basses do you use? Do you leave them plugged in all the time? Cos that will drain the battery. It takes most people 3 years or so to run one down. I have 3 active basses, had one for over a year and i've never had to change the batteries. Though i'd probably do it every year or two to be on the safe side and use duracells.

Has anybody seen anywhere that sells a black jazz guard cut to fit a precision pickup? I can't find anywhere that sells them, not even fender! Also Simm's custom shop do them. I'm considering sending mine in for them to copy it. -
That's looking pretty sweet, glad it worked for you Now you just need some new hardware I'm just not a fan of that satin nickel or whatever it is, black would go nicely i think

Sweet bass! Lovely colour and the grain is really nice! Also you're right, tort plate > wbw

Slap some seymour duncan basslines in there, i tried a mark hoppus bass with a basslines precision pickup and that sounded really bright/growly, same with my basslines MM pickup but a bit less bright and more growly, i'd imagine the jazz ones to be the same. And these are both run passive by the way, and they sounded sweet. 2 basslines jazz pickups, volume, blend, tone, sorted.
Status do one for £51 + VAT and shipping.
Got a status in my SUB bass neck position, i don't like i personally, lacks definiton to me. I'd reccommend the basslines one HIGHLY. It sounds awesome, got a really nice growl much like a real musicman pickup and it's got an insane output just in passive. EDIT: does anybody know if the kent armstrong MM pickup is any good? i keep seeing them on ebay for £50 and wondering... i'm thinking about swapping the status one for one of them.

Supposedly the best stingray ever made, as claimed by sterling ball and most of the ernie ball forum, go and enquire there, you'll get a much better response.

Some people prefer vol vol tone, i don't though. That's how my OLP is currently set up though, until i get my preamp installed. I say go for volume blend tone. My les paul has vol vol tone tone switch, and i can see why they did that as it does come in handy sometimes (setting the pickup levels differently or you can mute the whole at the flick of a switch)

I bet flea had some chilly performances then!
