I recommend the MXR Phase 100, doesn't take out the bottom end too much.

I don't really suffer from OSAS (Overplayed Somg Aversion Syndrome), but on guitar I hate You Really Got Me. Not being EVH, I struggle to find something worthwhile to play in the solo.

No worries on the way out, and if you get to love this bass you can always bring it back disassembled or invest in an ATA case for future flying-with-bass adventures.

Trial and error is actually the best way to set a compressor! There are no 'magic' settings, as the results depend so crucially on the bass, the pickup selection and tone setting, and most of all the way you play. I tried a Sandberg TT once (German made, not the Electra series) and I have to say it sounded less punchy than the Squier Jazz I had at the time.
