1. Looks great!! Just off to check Limelight website...
2. That was great. To be honest, they all sounded mega. Surprisingly, I liked the tone of the '77 least, not to say I didn't like, it has some serious attitude! Thanks for sharing!
3.
Yup, correct pad used. All I can say is that the 2 Markbass cabs I'm now using have been a revelation live, compared to my B/F S12V.
They are great cabs. I had one then moved it on. I borrowed one for a gig Saturday and angled it up with the little Markbass tilt-back-device-thing and it was easily cutting through two guitars and drums. They have a serious amount of clean low mids and bottom for little cabs too!
4. I REALLY want another VM Jazz. I've had 2 and moved them on when cash was needed. The last one I bought from a mate, who had done a few modifications. It had a babicz bridge and a tort pickguard - which I belive was bought as very old stock, a Fender original for Japanese Jazz basses. It was a great fit for the squier. It has since been sold again and I'm trying to find out who has it so I can buy it back!!
5. Welcome! Your English is probably as good or better than many people born and raised here - you managed to answer all my stupid questions anyway! Matt
6.
11 in total - all Precisions.
Good stuff! 2 Precisions for me.
7. Haven't we been here before?
8. Mega. Love these. That looks great.
9. Bump. No love for this? As new, willing to listen to offers.
10. Thanks, it does indeed shift a ton of air. I'm guessing a bit with pricing here, as I've never seen another come up for sale second hand. Now asking £500.
11. Edit; can't alter price as above, £500 ono. I've decided to sell my Markbass 2x12. I bought this new 2 years ago as my band at the time were starting to play larger venues - that is no longer the case and i don't have the need for such a powerful cab anymore. I now play predominantly in a functions band and just don't need this much cab, also, have recently downsized cars - and whilst this does fit in the back of a 3 door Ford KA, it is a bit awkward getting it in/out with a bad back and shoulder! The cab is as new, i am quite obsessive about taking extreme care of my things (!!) therefore, there isn't a single scuff, rip or knock in the tolex. The cab comes with a Roqsolid cover which it has always been on when not in use. It really is mint condition. Spec wise, it is 4 ohm, rated at 800 watts. I have always used it with a LM3, though, did use an old Bassman in the studio once and both sounded great. Tons of low end, yet, very clean. I wouldn't say classic Markbass exactly, it does the hifi thing, but is a bit warmer and more natural sounding than other MB cabs i have played/owned. The tweeter is a 1.25" compression driver too, i have it pretty much off, but it is far nicer than the piezo unit some MB cabs have and fully controllable via the L pad. It has rubber feet side and bottom for horizontal/vertical use and two very sturdy handles. On my scales it weighs in at 27.5KG. Here is the Markbass webpage for full spec; http://www.markbass....tail.php?id=142 I would MUCH prefer not to ship this, as i am on the Isle of Wight and it is a bit of a pain, so if anyone fancies a day trip or can collect from Southampton, Portsmouth or Lymington, that would be ideal. Trade wise, i'm only really interested in high end 1x12 - Bergs or Vanderkley, as this is what the cash will go towards when sold anyway. 12.
I find it useful when I want to play behind the beat (as I have a tendency to push the tempo of songs otherwise). Not sure why it works, but it does for me.
Same here! I like using my thumb for playing slightly behind the beat too. Really grooves.
13. Tort with cover. No contest.
14. Those chromes are great.
15.
(go on, do this) a quick search on his name in Google images just seems to show hundreds of the same photo...the same smug look on his face, a la; I'm-not-looking-at-my-bass-and-you-know-I-think-I-just-cracked-out-a-very-smelly-fart-as-well. Right place, right time I suppose.
I did. You're right! He does look very happy with himself. On a related note, there is apparently a footballer with the same name whose beard matches his teams blue and white striped kit!
16. I had to Google Clayton, not a huge fan of the band, but that Jazz looks quite special.
17.
Would you rather have the benchmark of p basses, or something that's unique to you?
That's the question I guess isn't it? I bought the standard because it was the best P I tried. Just the way it is I found it almost perfect. I've just added flats and a bridge cover. But, if you're not going to sell kit, having the Special that you have added your own touch to would be pretty cool.
18.
Are you rehearsing with a drummer? I love the MicroMark but tried one at a full band rehearsal recently and it wasn't really loud enough. Just about ok as a personal monitor but not enough oomph for the rest of the band to hear properly and we wouldn't normally DI the bass at rehearsal (although that is an option for us). I also took it to a small acoustic gig and it works brilliantly. Easily loud enough for stage volume and was in the foh mix as well. Forgot to add earlier that the £635 price at Thomann is actually higher than it was this time last month (albeit only by a few quid!).
That's good to know, thanks. For this particular band the drummer uses an electric kit at rehearsal - as we rehearse in the singers lounge! So volume wouldn't be an issue I don't think.
19. Sort of on topic, sort of not... where is a good place to buy from the UK at the moment then? I wouldn't mind picking up a Micromark for rehearsals!
20. Unless you'll get a lot of joy modding the Special, just buy a Standard. I've owned both and the Special was really nice, but the Standard is better, IMO. The few tweaks make it a really nice instrument and well worth the extra bit of money. Plus, if you do want to sell it, you'll get more of your money back.
21. If there is to be a price reduction across the board, I would imagine it coming in to effect once all the new stock of Italian gear has been phased out.
22.
I saw him (and ended up sound engineering the gig) at the launch of the Cornford RK100 at the yacht club in Whitstable. Paul Cornford was trying to do the sound but he's useless at it so I did it. Ritchie was very drunk and played a blinder. Amp sounded good too. Designed by my good friend and band mate, Martin Kidd. (Mart also is designing the Victory stuff)
That's mega, on all counts. I'm a Kotzen fan too. Great singer, incredible guitarist.
23. Nice one. I'm undecided about a new practice amp and keep coming back to these.
