1.
I've never found a P limiting. I actually think they're more versatile than most actives I've owned, because almost every sound is useable. Of course if you want a Jaco-esque burp it's not really the bass for that but I've never been a fan of the back-pickup burp anyway.
Agreed. I loved my Stingray, but musically it didn't work for me. There isn't a sound from the P that I couldn't use.
2. Music related stuff, I was fortunate enough to receive two fender leads, the tweed custom shop marked ones. They're really well built, very happy with them. Also got one of those Markbass Mark Stand things, used it last night and was really impressed. Great for a tightly packed pub gig!
3. I think Locked Out Of Heaven is in D Minor, is it not?! It has some very high parts and is not an easy song to sing in its original key. I cover it in two bands, original key with female singer and down a half step with male fronted band.
4. Precision. Having recently traded my 'Ray in for one. The Stingray was really nice to play and well built. But so is the P - and I much prefer the sound of it.
5.
It will, just, fit on the front seat of a BMW 3 Series Coupe - I agreed to deliver one once and managed to squeeze it in
Bloody good effort! Got mine in the boot of a MK1 Focus seats up - and now in the back of a new KA with the seats down.
6. I use the front ported version of that Markbass. The club600f32. Have you considered one of these? Not sure how readily available they are, as they have just been discontinued. I love it, it's clean and clear with my LMIII, handles EQ well and is very transparent with a good tweeter. Not to mention, it is beautifully built, absolutely perfect fit and finish. Edit: the one Molan, above, is referring to is this one. It is pretty chunky due to the ports, 26kg on my scales too. And is a bit awkward getting through a tight doorway. The reassessed handles on either end are very good though. All in all, I can live with it being a bit chunkier than certain other cabs as in every other way it is perfect for what I want. There are pics towards the end of the 'show us your rig' and 'Markbass porn' threads, if you want to see it with my amp and P bass in context.
7. I LOVED my 2EQ. Felt and played awesome... But, I sold it recently to fund an US Standard P and am completely happy with my decision. I thought I'd regret it a little, but the P is just perfect for what I want. I don't think I'd buy another Ray either, maybe if I was in doing something differently musically, but for me, the Precision just does it better.
8. Because, how many people can connect with musicians doing what they do well? Week after week? I would probably love it, as would a lot of musicians. But my nan wouldn't tune in to watch a drummer or bassist or what have you playing solo. Thinking about it, it would probably be really self indulgent too. Lots of horrendous shredding that whilst technically impressive is actually boring as f*ck to listen too. I'd much rather X Factor just had a live band. If Strictly can do it, why not? Or, the show just stopped, as in it's current form it has well and truly run it's course...
9. Love those Musicmasters. Recorded with one once and it was brilliant. Really raw and felt awesome. Ohhhh, has GAS just struck, again?! Damn it.
10. That looks smart. Have you moved the 1x12s on?
11.
My 2011 US Standard Precision. It just "works" if you know what I mean. The sound is exactly what I want, and it`s so easy to play it almost feels as if I`m playing fresh air. Not too heavy either, and in my fave colour scheme, white/tort/rosewood.
I just got my first US Standard P and know exactly what you mean. It just fits. The sound it makes is the one I want from a bass guitar.
12. Well, the search is over. Yesterday i picked up my new 2012 American Standard Precision and i couldn't be happier. I've owned a few basses now and this is the nicest, in every respect. Build quality, sound, looks, playability. It weighs 8lbs 10 and balances perfectly on a strap. Things only got better when i plugged into the gigging rig. As much as i loved my Jazz and Stingray, they weren't plug and play jobs, i fiddled with EQ, effects, the Markbass filters and was never 100% happy with the tone. It was just me being fussy i guess, but it wasn't the tone i was looking for. There isn't a tone i don't like from the P. I can have the tone pot all the way on and it is clean and cuts through, but still warm without sharp ice pick clangyness. Or, roll the tone right off or anywhere in between and it get fat and round without losing definition or getting muddy. I'm blown away. Delighted to say it is the nicest bass i've ever played, and it's all mine! Anyway, the pics aren't great - how hard is it to take a decent picture without any natural light?! I'll get the camera out and take some detailed ones soon!
13. Here is my rig (again) with the latest addition. Best sound i've ever had from my rig. I've gone back to playing with the EQ flat and just a touch of VLE, will see how it goes over the next few gigs, but i don't imaginei'll be doing a lot of tweaking. A photo of my old 102p and Mexican P bass too for good measure. Really miss that cab.
14.
Congrats on your new PBass. That's cool that you had a selection to play, and choose from. What finish is the body? What wood is the fretboard on it?
Thanks! It's sunburst/rosewood combo. I'll get some photos up in a bit! I just re read my last post, saying that 'it won' over other P's, I should clarify, was a personal preference thing, I'm not stating that it was clearly better, I had the money to spend and it was worth it to me. The US ones were flawless and you can tell the materials used are top quality. It has the nicest rosewood fretboard I've seen and only weighs a 8lbs 10. But, I played a peach of a Road Worn and someone else might have preffered that. The neck pocket was super tight, frets were great, it just didn't sound as I wanted and the US Std did. Was actually really nice to play a bunch and not really have anything bad to say about one of them. All great Precision's that cater to different tastes. To the OP, try and play a few and see which one you like the feel of best!
15. I bought a US Standard today, after trying half a dozen different Precisions. It's a keeper, I didn't go in for one specifically, but it was just perfect and won out over Road Worns and Specials and various other Mexican P's. To be honest, none of the basses I tried were duds, just this particular American Standard had something special about it.
16. I don't lend, generally. I would to friends, to people I trust and know respect and appreciate nice gear. But unfortunately, lots of people don't care about their own gear let alone mine! One of my bands guitarists had their amp damaged by someone balancing a pint on top, so I don't chance it.
17. Any trades mate? 2eq MM Stingray, plus cash your way?
18. Would love to try two of these together. One packs a punch! GLWTS.
19. I got one of these as a gift years and years ago and it's still going strong. Sounds good, can keep up with quiet practices where the drummer uses an electric kit and handles a low B respectfully. Other than the big Behringer logo it also looks pretty cool! http://www.gak.co.uk/en/behringer-thunderbird-bx108/925
20. Just wondered if anyone owns one of these? Seems like there are a few that own the poly finish model but I'm interested in the nitro finish. They get well reviewed, along with the Road Worn, just wondered what they are like to live with? How does that finish wear? Fender are ambiguous with the spec and I'm yet to try one, just like the look and think it'd be a good option. Cheers.
21. I played a few P's today, this being one of them! Other than a bit of neck dive it was really nice. I preferred it to an FSR American Std. It had a really nice feel to it, great neck and I liked the relic'd finish. It looked cool.
22.
Or what I've had: Soundguy: your drummer emailed me yesterday and agreed it was ok if all the bands use you rig. Cheers.
Yep, had that. The worst thing was the sound guy was telling the flipping truth!
23. Boring answer, but a Pino Precision, today. Next week I'll have a different answer for you though!
24. I really like them. But, acoustic foam off cuts sourced locally (with a bit of luck), MDF and carpet tiles were all the ingredients used for a homemade one that does a very good job.
