  1. The only instrument I’ve ever really given a hard knock to was a PRS CU24, and that happened at home, complete accident and I was devastated. If I had something irreplaceable AND pristine, I’d certainly be selective with it. I’d not be taking it to small pokey pubs. A roadworn vintage Fender costing the same, I wouldn’t be so hesitant.
  2. I doubt it out front. It is probably one of those things we notice, solo, in a studio environment. I really like the way the P bass sits in my current project, but nobody else would/does or cares 😂 Similarly, for functions stuff I’d pick the BB because I prefer the slap sound… but as above, non-bassists wouldn’t notice.
  3. Guess it depends which P bass tone you’re after, and I should have qualified my post by saying I think of the looser, low mid P bass tone. I have a BBP35 and Am Pro PV. They’re in the same ballpark, but the Yamaha is more ‘modern’ sounding. The BB has deeper/tigher lows and more aggressive upper mids. Both are brilliant, just different variations on a theme.
  4. Also, you’re on the IOW. Message me if you wanna try my Fender P5/Yamaha PJ5!
  5. I like a Fender P5, and IME, they’ve been great. Rather than a super clear, solid low B, I’d say the B is uniform with the rest of the bass. It sounds like a P bass. It’s not a Lakland, and won’t have that B. I also have a 5 string PJ that I play with P pickup solo’d, it sounds great. But it’s not a P bass, in feel or sound.
  6. The one I had previously, I sold to IanA on here and he fitted a Nordstrand too. I’ll have a look at the string retainer, do you find it benefitted from it?
  7. Just picked this up recently. It’s an Am Pro I. I’m a big fan of the first series, I love the bits lots hate 😂 The V-Mods and the low B catch some flack, but I think it’s a cracking workhorse that sounds, plays and looks superb. Don’t see too many in Antique Olive either?!
  8. I honestly don’t recall, it was sold on here. Hardly used, as you say they’re loud! I’d had all the ‘boutique’ 2x12s before and this was the one that I liked most. Just sat so well with a band and not a total chore to move! GLWTS!
  9. Let me have a look at international shipping! I’ve never posted a bass outside of the country… and since the event that must not he named, I understand it may be more difficult. If you have done so before, please do PM me again and we can discuss!
  10. I once had a Ninja 212, also with a yellow piped Roqsolid cover, I wonder if this was mine… It was a fantastic cab, really didn’t need much of a push from the amp as it was so clear and punchy! Great little bit loud rig!
  11. Thanks Sean, hopefully a good deal for someone, as it’s a beautiful example too. Yamaha are really consistent, but this lighter than my last one and is beautifully resonant and responsive to play.
  12. Price dropped to £1k! Something else has popped up, which is really quite like. So hoping to sell this on here before eBay/part ex.
  13. BassBros have one in now! But agreed, BB2025 never seem to come up either.
  14. Have you fed that back to the bass manufacturer, that you’ve been advised by the PU manufacturer that the part isn’t suitable?! Assuming it isn’t a tiny or brand new operation, and that this PU is a standard option, this must have come up for someone else previously, or in their own testing. How did they land on this particular PU? Must have been some testing. I would start a conversation about it with them, if you’ve not yet done so.
  15. I really liked my Rootmaster 210 cab. They turn up for bargain prices second hand. Lightweight, easy to carry with a good top side handle, really tight and punchy sound and loud enough.
  16. I’m based on the Isle of Wight. Happy to meet Southampton/Portsmouth/Lymington though.
  17. It’s ideal, IMO. I use 2x10 combo, which is plenty for most gigs. But with the added 2x10 extension, it’s just bigger and better, and not just from a loudness POV. Agreeing with what’s already been said, one 2x10 will likely do, but 2 of them has everything covered.
  18. This is all immaculate, not a single mark or knock anywhere. Gigged a couple of weddings and has otherwise sat largely unused and barely left the house. It’s a really nice setup, and a tall, hugely loud 800 watt 4x10 in a lightweight package. I would split, with the combo at £650 and cab at £250. Combo comes with foot switch for drive channel and Roqsolid padded cover and cab with Fender dust cover. Trade wise, would be interested in a 5 string P bass.
  19. Hi all, price dropped to £1000, before eBay/p/ex… TRADES: Only really interested in 5 string P basses. Made in Japan Yamaha BBP35 with Yamaha hard case. The bass sounds excellent, plays wonderfully and is in good condition. Yamaha say: Made in Japan, this is the ultimate BB, featuring an Alder/Maple/Alder construction treated with Yamaha’s unique IRA technology, a six-bolt miter neck joint, and a diagonally strung convertible bridge. I’d say it is in “good player’s condition”. It came from Bass Bros as it is today, described and sold as “immaculate”. Which it isn’t, if you’re a collector. The pick guard and pickup covers have dulled from play and there is a mark behind the bridge where the previous owner had let the B string rub the finish when changing strings. At least, that seems mostly likely cause to me. the neck and headstock ARE immaculate. There are no dings, chips, dents of any kind. It’s just a really lovely bass, they’re my favourite and this one feels and sounds (somewhat) like a vintage instrument. It does everything well in its own BB-esque way. Weighs in at a shade under 8.9lbs, which is pretty light for a BB!
  20. Agreed that 2nd hand is the way to go. If I wasn’t sure what I wanted I’d browse the classifieds, see what options appear and then research them and see if they tickled my fancy. I just sold a TC RH750 AND matching RS212 cab for £350. Over budget, but I thought I was giving it away at £400 and just wanted rid. So perhaps worth keeping an eye out for similar bargains as people look to unload gear that is taking up space in the spare room. And to be honest, you can’t go too far wrong with any of the known brands and their 250-500w, *x10 or *x12 offerings.
  21. Footloose - Kenny Loggins - Nathan East. It’s got lots of interesting little bits, dissonance, chromatic runs, string bends and is always a crowd pleaser.
  22. Thank you so much, honestly, I’m about to pull the plug on this one! Agreed on what you say, it’s the most comfortable bass I’ve owned and by far my favourite. There have been a couple of strong enquiries made and as both fell through I was somewhat relieved. Plus, I’ve managed to shift some other gear to cover Christmas expenses, so think we’re all good.
  23. I’ve not gigged a 4 string for probably 7 or 8 years. The only one I own is my Squier Mini P, but if learning songs or jamming at home I’ll grab that before my 5, probably for convenience more than anything as it’s guitar sized. I think a few years ago I’d never have entertained a 4, again. But now, I enjoy it all over again. Don’t think it makes me play differently, just a nice change of scenery.
  24. Brand new! Posted UK for £15
  25. Purple and sparkly! great sound, just unused and need the money! Price includes recorded UK delivery.
