1. This used to be mine. Whoever buys this will be extremely happy with it, really, if you're looking for a good solid P bass you won't find a better one for anywhere near the price. It is absolutely stunning, to boot. Genuinely gutted that funds are tight and that I can't buy it back. The tort guard is from the Doc too, so needless to say that it is a good one.
2. I always have two so that I've got a backup. Both Precisions with flats, as that's what I'm into. Would like more options and choice, but not a neccesity.
3. Hardly ever. My functions band is well set as we gig often and rehearsals are to fine tune small parts or run through new numbers quickly before a gig. My originals band practice to write new parts, and there is full back line supplied. Given that they practice in a huge school and it's a good 5 main walk to the rehearsal room, lugging gear isn't an option. I don't care how bad my sound is at practice, as long as it's audible it will work for what we want. The drummers pretty much use electric kits too so we can keep the levels down.
4. Cool. Will watch with interest. I was a massive fan in my younger days, though I only saw them once at Reading 03, Tom's playing was terrible, still loved it though!
5. Sounds like Markbass might be a good bet, you'll probably get on well with that F1 :-)
6. Really surprised to hear this isn't a one off. Some sound clips and settings would be good if anyone is able to? My TH500 is clean until gain or drive hit 2 o'clock. It's never clinical sparkly clean, but isn't driven unless I want it to be.
7. Cheers guys. Spoke to Mark earlier and will speak again Monday.
8.
Jade Pearl Metallic? It'd look nice alongside your TKS cabs :-)
Very nice, I had to google that one, but did have a Strat that colour a few years back! Will Mark do pretty much any colour?!
9. Right,I want in on this. Now, Shoreline Gold as seen and admired above,LPB, Pino clone or other?! With a rosewood board are there any other slightly more unusual colours worth considering?
10.
thanks Chrismuzz I'm wondering whether a Markbass head, paired up to a cab from a different manufacturere is a good idea?
Sure they're really nice amps, so through a decent cab will sound great. I actually really like Markbass cabs.
11. This sucks. I hate to say it, but I run my gain and drive both at 11 o'clock, maybe gain at 12 and drive at 10 o'clock; or thereabouts and also have a clean tone. Do you boost the EQ loads or run the master really high?
12. If you know the songs, you're set. Just try enjoy the whole experience. No one will notice if you mess up a little!
13. Not sure if had been mentioned, but this is/was a common issue with these amps and if you ping TC's UK service centre an email, they are usually prompt with sending a new set out. Maybe a touch of super glue might help too.
14. Lovely looking instrument.
15.
I love the deep chunky neck on my 78 Precision, it makes me work harder and I find playing it more enjoyable because of this. I also just love my 78 anyway, I know some aren`t too keen on 70s Fenders but I`m not one of them.
. Me too. I don't own, but have used a 78 quite a bit, with dead rounds, and it plays and sounds great. Its a weighty beast, but is so solidly built and nicely played in.
16. That's the general consensus I think; really great little amps, but reliability is a worry. If you're buying new, might be worth a go. I've not owned one, but have played one and really liked it.
17.
You can be as pedantic as you want about the name of his role based on the specific instrument he's playing - but that won't make him a bass player.
Yes, it will. In fact, it's pretty much definitive.
18.
My teacher did the same, skej21. Dan Quinton (Otis Grand and The Dance Kings). I think the counting thing M@23 mentioned above revelas an aspect that you touched upon. The I er and er 2 er aspect of counting is a great means of explaning the idea of written music but it is NOT a tool you should use whilst actually reading (you would have no chance). You need to get the rhythms in your head so you are 'seeing' them as phrases rather than reading each note. Think 'word' rather than 'letter' or 'syllable'.Proficiency comes with practice (and it is worth noting that, if you don;t maintain the skill, you will lose it).
Cool. Thanks for that.
19. Depends on the cab. My old cabs with metal grills and rat fur I didn't bother as they were tough as nails. Somewhat prettier tolex and grill cloths warrant a bit more protection. Just realised my amp fits perfectly in an aluminium Maplin case too, so that's that one sorted.
20. I started 'Simplified Sight reading for Bass', was wondering, what is the best method of counting when playing passages of different values? For example, for 8th notes I'm counting 1 and 2 and... And when I hit a group of 16th notes I'll start counting 1 e and a 2 e and a... Is this correct, to change it up depending on the value of notes you're reading? That's probably a silly question, but its working for me now, but I don't want to continue if there's a better method.
21.

Blimey. That's a stunner.
22. That might be worth a go at that price! I just found a Dimarzio Tone Zone S which I'm keen to try. Like the matched headstock too.
23. Very smart. I've been thinking about getting one of these as I've got a few decent guitar single coils laying around that I could try.
24.
Good thread. I'm totally over the moon with the Fender Flats, 9050ML. Never tried them until recently, and they have blown me away. The feel amazing, so superb, and not too bright - just right to me. I found some Flats to sound way too dead in the wrong environments, but these are just superb. I've tried a few Flats before, but never really bonded - tried GHS, Chromes, etc., and thought that I'd just be sticking back with rounds - until some online searching tweaked my interest in the Fenders. Highly recommended!
Me too. They feel nicer after a few months too.
25. Crikey!! That rosewood board suits that down to the ground. Lovely. Good find.
