1. I wonder which shop this is, as I've had almost the same thing from a big UK retailer.
2. If you weren't driving them that hard, there could be a fault. They're quality cabs and should be taking a fair bit before they start struggling.
3.
Well, I wouldn't tbh..... I've heard a few of these cabs and I just don't get the tone goals of the people who used them.. All I seem to hear is BASS which drowns out the mix and also kills the tone of the bass. Of course, this is the fault of the people that used them, but then I also think that is the desired tone brief anyway... I do concede that I am not a fan of small units for a discerning sound anyway ...and that sort of thinking definitely doesn't work for me...see the '210 loud enough' thread, but it also depends, muchly, on what you expect soundwise.. Volume is not a problem from small amps and cabs... but tone definitely is, IMO. This is not a one cab issue... I feel all the small units ( I've heard ) 'struggle' but then for plenty of people, there is no 'issue' at all.... I'd like to know what they are trying to achieve, tbh...
Good point. I've done gigs with small combos before, which have been loud enough at a push, but you take what you're given in terms of tone.
4. A Markbass 2x10 did me, it did get pushed on louder gigs with an originals band but for most things it was enough.
5. Can you get one made? I'm sure if you send your other one off someone could give the wire and winding a once over and have a good go at creating one. I know the perfect guy, but he is unfortunately out of action for the time being. He makes some incredible pickups though at good prices. I'm sure there are others that do likewise out there.
6.
Finally got the amp back! It was repaired under warranty, eventually. Communication and turnaround time were pretty poor overall, but at least it's done. I won't be gigging without a backup from now on.. Even less impressive is that they've managed to muller half the screws holding the lid on by using the wrong size screwdriver
Good news that it's back - worrying that they thought it was OK to send it back with mashed screws, bit careless.
7.
I was expecting to see a thread about gear made of clear perspex.
Me too! I was expecting one of those Dan Armstrong basses.
8. I just don't find them pleasant to listen to at all. Maybe it's because I also play guitar a bit, but I'd much rather hear a decent guitar solo than bass. But then, I'm not a fan of the whole continuous 16th note slap fests either. Which might discredit my opinion as a bassist...
9.
I'm starting to ask myself the same question. It wouls appear the majority go with the 'this is my tone' approach. I may have to try adopting the same attitude and see how it goes.
Yeah mate, I just use a good P bass tone, which suits everything my functions band does. Tone pot up or down is as far as I get in shaping the tone.
10. I hate to mention the 'H' word, but the very solid inset handles on these do make for an easier lift. I miss my old one, it used to deliver some serious low end and volume. Have a bump for a great cab. I'd love another if I were able to.
11.
Just me and my bass..I don't want FX so I cover everything with the bass. I don't mess with the amp EQ either...once it has the sound I don't touch it altho I might adjust the volume.
Same here. Why would you try to replicate the original bass tone?! Unless you are playing in a quality tribute act, no one will notice.
12. The Berg HD cabs are absolutely brilliant, if you can stand the weight.
13. Corvette for me too. Brilliant basses.
14. I do like those little GK amps, really impressive for something so tiny. That's a great compact little set up.
15. If it's just for moving it from A to B, I used to use a neoprene case for 13 inch laptops for my LM3. Perfect fit and cost about a fiver.
16. If the PJB Double Four I just picked up is anything to go by then I'd reccomened checking the brand out. It's 70 watt with, as you might have guessed, two 4 inch neo drivers. It's perfect for acoustic guitars and stripped back small acoustic drums or electric drums. It's not a loud amp but does deliver proper bass tones. Remarkable given the size of it.
17. How much amplifier will you need to power this thing? Will it work with a standard 500w class D job?
18. Had various buyings and sellings of all types of bass related items with Scott in the past, and if we are honest, there will be more to come! Top musician, top bloke. Deal with confidence.
19.
I bought a Japanese Fender Precision from Matt. Really easy deal and Matt is a super-nice guy. Deal with confidence! Stunning beard too 😎
Haha, cheers dude!!
20. Do it, I'd say. It's another notable gig to add to your CV.
21. Nice one. They're very smart cabs.
22. Get to Bass Gear if you get chance mate. Aguilar, Berg and TKS stockists.
23. Hmmm, another tks fan here. I don't have anything to add on that front! But, if you like your Berg I'd recommend trying the 112 version of that. You anywhere near Reading?!
