1.
Not one that I can see on their website . I have just read the thread on the Social B , some of the comments are pretty unnecessary . I have used Ashdown before , a Spyder 550 amp , so my interest is genuine . At £700 , the 1x15 is rubbing shoulders with Bergantino / Vanderkley so the more information available , the more confident I feel that I am buying a good quality cab . From a customers point of view , handing over 700 notes for something that we may or may not get on with is always a bit risky . Anywhere local to Isle of Wight / Southampton/ Portsmouth to try one out ?
Nevada Music carry Ashdown.
2. I'd leave it as is! But, that's a boring answer, so i'll say mint.
3. I had the VM 70s Jazz at the same time as a 2010 US Special. The Special was of course better over all in terms of playability. It just felt more solidly built. But that should go without saying, shouldn't it? But, the sound? The VM gave THE jazz tone! The Special was very dark and much deeper but the VM was so growly and aggressive. I took both to a studio session once and the artist and engineer told me to put the US one back in it's case!
4.
(Not pictured: Epiphone/Warmoth build aka "Warbird", 2 acoustic guitars)
Man, that's a cool photo.
5. They do seem to pair well. The EQ of the TH500 is very powerful and more usable than the Markbass. It's nice to have the semi-para mids again. The Tonehammer DI is also excellent. The amp and cabs do seem to compliment each other superbly. The thing that seems to impress everyone about the tks - the lovely clear MIDs are only enhanced by the Aggie. The upper MIDs are so pleasant, the high notes that lurk above the 15th fret are still super smooth with no clank or shrillness. I was happy with the cabs with the Markbass but can only say that they do all that and more with the Aguilar. Still the lovely MIDs, still super smooth up high and defined down low; but with a more effective EQ, and, half a dozen gigs in, I'm finding it easier to get my sound quicker, whatever the quirks of the room/stage. If anyone gets chance to try a TH500 with your tks, do! I can't imagine anyone not liking it!
6.
What a rig that is! I bet it sounds as good as it looks!!
Thanks pal. I'm extremely happy with it. Just a proper, classic bass sound in a very lightweight package!
7. Always on full when playing. Often roll the volume down between songs though.
8. Wow. We play two pubs that are literally a stones throw apart in one town and another two that are exactly opposite each other in another town with none of that nonsense. There is no shortage of bands here though, so maybe bookers/landlords aren't as touchy.
9.
i guess they're hoping people will spend £600 on something that will do several jobs poorly, rather than spend a few hundred quid more on separate items that will do the job properly. anyone wanting decent recording quality will get a proper audio interface. anyone wanting a decent amp / cab will buy something not made by ashdown. anyone wanting a decent wireless system will buy a decent wireless system.
Not even that much - you could get a decent audio interface, sub 100w practice amp and wireless system for less than £600. Didn't pay much attention to the link, so not sure if the little Ashdown units offers more, mind.
10. The Blackline and LM250 are still loud little units. The 102p is a great little cab too. I used a LM3 and 102p for a couple of years and would highly recommend that pairing.
11.
There's two Yamaha BB1024's on this forum for £500 at the moment. Personally, I prefer the Caramel Brown but I suppose the Vintage White one with the scratch plate is more traditional. Great basses! Passive, PJ, great construction; nails the vintage vibe. Well balanced, not designed to be lightweight basses but not prohibitively heavy either. Truckstop
I was gonna post this. Love the Caramel one.
12. The 99p offer caught me too. Used to use Deezer, but Spotify has a far greater catalogue.
13. Does look quite interesting, sure whatever it offers it will be incredibly good at. The price point is quite interesting - I wonder who the amp is designed for?
14. Can't comment on the TC or Ampeg cabs but Markbass offer a nice warm clean tone. Perfect if you want to use pedals or a pre. It won't be as coloured as the Ampeg, so might be a good shout.
15. So, my new TH500 has arrived. One gig down and two to go this weekend. First impressions, it is great and paris with the TKS like they were made for each other. Amp and cabs have beautifully voiced mids and respond so well to each others. 17. New amp prompted new photos:
18. We put off getting a dehumidifier for quite a while, bought one a couple of months back and it was money well spent for sure.
19. I would guess metric as Japan has used metric for a long time. But couldn't say for sure.
20. Nope, never had any problems. Congratulations :-)
21. Sold my Little Mark 3 to Clive. Super fast payment and very good comms. Very easy transaction.
22.
And the TH paired with S112's will not be lacking definition in the mids and clarity and cut in the highs. In this regard the amp shaded the PF500 which is another decent lightweight amp which works with the S112's, IMO.
Thanks for that. I did consider the Ampeg but the reliability queries put me off. Might try get one second hand as come March, the gigs I'm doing will require a decent backup. I ordered a TH500 today :-) got a few gigs this weekend so will give it a really good test. Very much looking forward to its arrival!
23. Wow, awesome. Could Hugh offer a date of manufacture? Where did you find it?
24.
The TH500 was just a bit too "vintagey" for me. Not enough top end when I wanted it, which is not all the time, but sometimes I do. Great chewy thick tones but not hugely versatile IMO. But then the Puma won't do tonehammer tones will it. Do you use pedals or do you want everything from your amp. Puma plus pedals would be a good options IMO For me, the GK RB series are some of the most versatile amps out there. Maybe the Markbass TTE 500/800 ? I'm really wanting to try the new Fender Rumble 500. The Rumble range have sounded good and been really reliable for many years and I also have a real soft spot for Fender Solid state overdrive.
Great shout on the TTE500. Hadn't considered that, but they do look good. With the Little Mark I used a Boss SD1 set as a clean boost which warmed the sound up and added that bit of hair to the mids. I'd likely do something similar with the Puma if the taste pot didn't do it for me. I always dialled the highs back on the Little Mark too and don't use tweeters in ceramic cabs. So I'm not after zingy highs at all. Which us what nade me think thay the Tone Hammer would be best. I wonder if the TTE series are still Italian made, prices haven't dropped any.
