1. Maybe try posting in the Items Wanted section here. Maybe someone's got one they didn't choose to use?
 2.
Anyone know if replacement pickguards are available for the Sire MM V7 jazz bass? Fancy replacing my tort with a black one. Fanx
Not sure, but I do know that when I needed a replacement pot for my V7, all they could do was replace the whole control plate (including all pots) taken from another bass as they didn't have any spares/replacements. This was last Feb, so that may have changed by now. Good luck.
 3.
Let me just say that not all of you can be me... I'm sorry but thanks for the sentiment.
Yeah, but you're bound to say that now aren't you?.....all of you. 'sa dead giveaway innit?
 4.
No i plugged bass straight into the monitor via 1/4 inch jack. I'm an idiot.
With the best will in the world, I find it hard to dispute that 😜😘
 5.
Indeed. Although, it doesn't really say much about the Musicians who congregate around them on a gig.
Oh very gooood. Chapeau Sir!
 6.
I think that drums are the main idiot magnets.
Let's hope Dad isn't reading this
 7.
Of course, sometimes there is no room for doubt.. http://youtu.be/XAJ62IG3gBo
Oh my giddy aunt!
 8.
Sorry, I thought the problem was obvious, it could knock my bass out of tune, of course
[slaps forehead] aaah, of course. A foolish oversight on my part.
 9. That reply is just plain rude. He could, with little effort, politely decline without the rant. If I'm about to invest three and a half grand, I don't think it's too much to ask to see both sides of an instrument I'm considering buying.
 10.
Anything more ambitious and I ............whack the guitarist round the head with my bass.
I'm sorry...and the problem is?
 11.
. . . . I did tap my right foot once.
We need to see the proof!
 12.
Cricket box.
Thankyou. That gave me a proper belly-laugh.
 13. Oh that is so on the money guys.....guys?guyyys?hello!
 14. I haven't heard about this, but it's certainly piqued my interest. Love SRV, can't abide the Shakin' Stevens stuff of my youth. I'll have to try and youtube that.
 15. I stretch new strings a lot, by pulling on them several times along their length, when I put them on. I also press down just before the bridge. Maybe it's only psychological on my part, but I hardly have to re-tune after that. I change strings every 4-6 weeks, depending on how busy I am and I generally put on the new strings directly before a gig. It would be very unwise of me not to stretch them before going under stage-lighting and those kinds of temperetaure changes.
 16.
Bob Babbitt spoke a lot on this subject. It's a rats nest. Slutsky slanted his entire thesis against Carol Kaye to create controversy to sell his book.. and maligned her until a bunch of MT headed rumor parrots picked up the Slutsky Torch and tried to illuminate the bass world with their new-found cache of net guana... and then start threads to weave a web of lowdown delusion. Due Diligence, EZ... Research what Babbitt experienced about the music biz... http://bobbabbitt.co...aying_Bass.html ...
That was a really interesting article. Thanks for posting.
 17. Plantation Lullabies is also an excellent album
 18. Some P-bass (if the video is to be believed) action here on Cars and Girls. One of those tunes that has such lovely bass movement in relation to the melody. http://youtu.be/jEJdfDD4dVg
 19. That is sad news indeed. RIP. http://youtu.be/T5fHpC4Wux8
 20. Aaaaah, this feels like unexpectedly running into an old friend. Welcome back this thread!
 21.
Not if your technique is good enough.
That's me knackered then 😘
 22.
IME from owning an all steel Born To Rock Bass, the tuning is actually more stable because the body and the strings (made of similar materials) act more evenly to changes in temperature compared with a wooden bass.
Really. That's interesting, I hadn't thought about it like that.
 23.
And another website of some quite different basses.... Another lot of different designs
There's some fun-looking stuff there. I like the one with f-holes, but what are those 8-pole pups all about then?
 24. Wouldn't tuning with temperature variations be a bit of a nightmare?
 25. Keep the playing simple. You also won't get as much sustain out of your strings as usual. It's usually less of a problem than you might think. I've done gigs at skiing events where, even under lights, the stage temperaure was barely above freezing. Just keep your hands warmed up between songs. I did try one of those little metal boxes that hunters use. They're lined with something fireproof and you leave a slow-burning piece of charcoal in them. They fit in your pocket. To be honest, I didn't really need it in the end though.
