1. You might try the 'bit of sponge under the strings at the bridge' trick to get a more thumpy upright sound.
2.
More of a privet joke really
What, the kind that get a laurel laughs?
3. So joyous and crazy, full of love. Thanks for that.
4. A few years back I played on a soul review backing her. You get the charts at the one rehearsal with her. They are collected at the end of the rehearsal by her MD and not seen again until the gig. They are then collected immediately at the end of her set. I don't know if they're the original motown charts, but they certainly looked old enough. The gig was loads of fun and wierdly, the whole groove, tempo etc. can be derived from her tambourine which she always plays. This is definitely an exception to the rule regarding singists armed with percussion ordnance.
5.
On one of the biggest outdoor gigs I'd ever played Ipicked up my 5 string and started playing horribly out of tune with everyone else but not by an instantly recoverable amount. It was excruciating. i had to stop and swap basses. I couldn't see the leds on my tuner so pulled out my spare lcd analogue when I had tuned my 5string between sets. Somehow the calibration on this rarely used tuner had been changed from 440hz to something else.
Ouch! My heart goes out to you there.
6. You may well be right. Thanks, P.
7. Hi All, I'm curious about a 5-string pbass, so I'm thinking of grabbing one of these and dropping in a better pup. Has anyone here already done this and they recommend a pup? Cheers, Paul.
8.
I did post this 2/3 years back. But always good for a repost. A couple of friends of mine had a nice little side project. Sadly the Bassist, Steve McManus (RIP) is no longer with us. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1hXegr69mQ&list=WL&index=157
Wow, that's some cracking voices they've got.
9. Hey Blue, I'm just curious, but when you introduced yourself, didn't the then current bass-player feel a little threatened? I guess it depends how you go about it, but it must be a bit tricky. Paul
10.

Love it.
11. Did that once on a musical I was subbing at, only no d-tuner on the house instrument. You were required to detune and retune before and after the song in question and I had forgotten to retune. Fortunately the following song was fairly straightforward, so just a short mindbend for one song.
12. OK, so you'll either turn this off after 2 seconds or just enjoy the energy like I did. Apologies in advance to any die-hard AC/DC fans. http://youtu.be/ay_jN3KHp5c
13.
Which is the punchline to my favourite joke of all time.
Yeah, it's one of mine too.
14.
Get well soon Sicbass Blue
Thanks bud I'm already well on the mend
15.
.... I used to get a "now that's what I call music" every Christmas as a kid!
😁😁😁😁 aahhhh, happy days.
16. Happy birthday Andy! All the best. I remember a Larry King interview with Halle Berry some years ago. He asked her, her age and she admitted with some chagrin 35. His response was, "35? I've got ties older than you!"
17.
I still think I'm 33.Unforunately I just turned 71.Weird how that works.How did I get here already?
Good morning Mr. Staggering, time for your medication! 😉
18. First up, I'd want to know how many dates are in the calendar. I'm 50 so chart success is no longer on the menu. Forgive a brief derailment - Blue, I loved your list of bear moves. I'm layed up after an appendectomy on Tuesday and the laughing hurt which proves I'm alive. However, you forgot one, it's that slow, sultry classic the "You're Not Here For the Hunting, Are You?"
19. "Wanted, bass-player who knows how to hump the invisible bear."...? 😉
20. Nice choice Interpol.
21. Similar period with some wicked keyboard bass in the verses... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijXcYLV1aNg&sns=em
22.
Hohner B2 cricket bats were always my nemesis. No so much now I am more used to them - they are just so handy to carry around as a back up so I persevered. At first, 2 octave scale plus no head meant that my subconscious mental map of note positions was all over the place. Always seemed something of a lottery which notes I would actually be playing as my hand never seemed in the right spot.
Yep, I had one of these as an easy carry-around practice bass and flogged it for just this reason. Most things I needed to practice on the road involved reading which further exacerbated the problem.
23.
that Van Halen clip, he wasn't in the wrong key, he was in the wrong band ....and state. lol
I heard that they'd gone out on tour without a keyboard player and all the keys were on a sequencer. I don't know if there was a power failure or what, but somehow the sequencer reset itself to the wrong sample rate (i.e. 'in the cracks' tuningwise). Being as the entire intro is on keys and they were less than a semitone out of tune, no one noticed until the band kicked in, by which time it was too late. You could hardly stop the song and start again on what was probably the last encore. I can only presume that Dave Lee Roth had mostly keys in his in-ears as he seems relatively unphased. Poor old EVH's deperate efforts during the solo make my teeth itch. I feel sorry for the bloke, although I'm sure that after the gig they had a few beers and a laugh over it.......... perhaps after sacking the sequencer tech? 😉
24. ....errrr Jack, I was joking.
25. Am I the only person here that thinks that MOST (albeit admittedly not all) of the people who have a gentle dig at MS are just ribbing for fun and really don't intend any offence and that some people are taking it all a WEE bit too seriously? By the way, I belong to the ribber faction although I love playing the number and the smiling faces of the punters. Sorry Barking Spiders, your post artived as I was writing mine.
