1. Beautiful! I have one just like it, similar age & also CIJ which I've manage to keep near-immaculate. I don't think I'll ever part with mine as it plays like a dream and is my favourite for recording guitar parts or just noodling. Good luck with the sale
2.
Someone once sent me a guitar by Standard Parcels just in bubble wrap in a gig bag.
An all-mahogany Dasiy Rock les paul jnr type guitar with fixed-neck I bought on ebay arrived wrapped in a single layer of bubble wrap with loads of clingfilm & sellotape - nothing else. My heart sank when it arrived as I was convinced the headstock would have snapped at some point in its journey, so I took a few pics on my phone before opening it - for proof of how it was packaged. Amazingly it had survived and was 100% intact.
3.
Ta for the replies gents, I wasn`t expecting a scarcity.. I wonder if anyone has notailed a precision pickguard?
I have - for a precision with a chrome control plate the same shape as the bit I lopped off, but there's no way it would fit on a jazz. There are plenty of custom pg makers who will do what you need
4.
Thanks for the advice Monday morning im going to be back on to them and see what I can do. Thanks again.
There should be someone you can speak to at your local authority trading standards who'll know a lot more than I do - it'll be good to be armed with a bit of info with recommendations from an expert for the next steps you may need to consider to get this resolved. Probably best to do this before getting back to the retailer. It could be that the person answering the phone at the retailer had little knowledge of policies or no authority to make a decision in your favour. As you've already been fobbed off once, when you call, ask straight away to speak to the General Manager or a director - they might have a better grasp of their responsibilities. Read the last paragraph here: http://www.gear4music.com/content/index?in...ntent_item_id=5 - looks like they're aware of the regulations but it seems to imply that they might try to make it hassle for you to claim, but if you play it by the book, I think they'll have to sort it out for you. Keep us all posted & Good Luck!
5. Nice one! As Cliff would say "Congratulations!" Epsom's not far from me, but I'm not sure I'll be able to pop in for the free strings tomorrow - I never change the strings on my geetars anyway! I'll probably be able to make it over to check the shop out at some point soon though. Is there any parking nearby or is the Ashley Centre my best bet?
6.
Gear 4 Music thats who I bought it from.
Im not an expert, but my opinion is that they're trying it on - your statutory rights are that it should be free from defects. It should last a reasonable length of time - usually six years is considered fair for most items. This is not wear & tear, neither is it accidental damage, this is an essential piece of the instrument flying off which appears not to have been put together properly. Any guarantee provided is extra to your rights under the Sale of Goods Act so their "one year guarantee" does not permit them to weasel out of your statutory rights. Find your local authority leaflet pdf at http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/advice/...goods-sum19.cfm "Under the Sale of Goods Act you are allowed a reasonable length of time to check that the goods comply with the above requirements. This is a very short period of time. If the goods do not comply, you are entitled to reject them and claim a full refund. Once this acceptance period has passed, you may still be able to claim damages for any defects that appear during use up to a period of six years, dependant on the type of goods. Damages will normally amount to the cost of repairs and any other losses which arise directly from the fault" You may have to fight them, but I think you should be able to get them to pay for the repair. When the battery on my MacBook started expanding, causing the laptop to rock on the desk, I took it into the Apple Store and even though it was well over three years old and I didn't have Applecare, they cheerfully swapped out the battery for a new one at no charge to me without me even having to suggest that this would be my preferred course of action. Unfortunately most retailers are unaware (or do they pretend to be unaware) of statutory rights
7.
I reckon it's one of these: Johnny Brook Which makes it a less than amazing price.
I reckon you're right Beer of the Bass, or can I call you 'BOTB'
8. I like carrot cake - but not one from asda - it's a bit dry
9. Thomastik flats - If no thomastiks are suitable for the bass (eg danelectro longhorn) LaBella flats
10. I'm listening to the audiobook of Samuel L Jackson reading the children's story "Go the F**k to Sleep"
11. I wonder whether this means the CIJ Fender mustang bass will be discontinued
12. I'm pretty sure I've seen an ad in Bass Player with him endorsing Thomastics a few years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if he used rotos back in the day though - when no one knew any better or could get anything else.
13.

I wondered what Robin Askwith was doing these days.
14. BUT WHAT DOES TIM SAY ABOUT IT?
15.
I want to add here that Ken has taken the time and effort to contact me privately which I really appreciate and hopefully we'll have a happy ending.
I appreciate that good customer service is a good idea, but I think giving a customer a "happy ending" with a transaction for music gear may be taking it a bit far
16. A cheap solution that *may* give you what you're looking for is to get a jazz & wire in a series/parallel switch like the Fender S1 switch.
17. I've learnt my lesson. I'm saying nothing - don't want some agressive [removed by moderator] coming in calling me Kiddo and puffing out his chest again.
18. This thread is a refreshing contrast to the Clutterbuck thread. Our drummer goes to a lot of gigs and never normally mentions bass players he's seen, but he saw Steely Dan a couple of years ago and from the way he was raving about Freddie W, it sounded like his playing made quite an impact on him.
19. Careful, he might google his name, find this thread, register as a BCer and start defending himself. I don't know or care enough about this style of bassplaying to comment on his skills, but I think I could probably get a similar sound by rolling a dustbin full of spoons down the stairs.
20. It sounds like the shop let a numpty loose on your bass. Get them to do the job properly or take it to someone who knows what they're doing.
21. There's a thread about a video on facebook of Wayne attacking a tuner if that helps
22. If you replace the jack (& in this case it sounds like its the standard 'open' type), be sure to get a proper branded switchcraft one, not something crappy from maplins.
23.
Wrong! The answer is seven-and-a-bit. And I should know - I've got Wall-E on DVD *and* Blu-Ray.
No - it's definitely seven - the same as the number a roads a man must walk down before you call him a man.
24.
How many OT posts in a row do we think it needs before it gets relegated from General Bass Discussion to Off Topic
Seven
